T.G.I.F. with Matt Dawgs: #429

Good day to you all and welcome to We Want Insanity. I am your host for today, Matt Dawgs and this is my column. Today is the end of the work week and the time to look back at all the goings-on over the past seven days as I wrap it up with a bow and spout it out bit by bit. Buckle up. Enjoy the ride.

IMPORTANT MATT NOTE:: I am hoping that you readers have taken the time to lend a hand and donated to the JAIDAN STRONG cause for me. I’d really appreciate it if you did; as little as $5 can go a long way. If not, it isn’t a big deal but please at least SHARE THE LINK. I get that finances can be tough for some but taking the time to share a link via your social media doesn’t cost a dime. I’d appreciate it greatly as one of your friends or family members may be able to help out. Thanks.

BONUS MATT NOTE: “Stay tuned for scenes from the next episode of Chicago West, right here on NBC.”

- After my column was posted last week, breaking news hit the world as it was revealed that Paige will no longer be allowed to wrestle in a WWE ring due to the severity of her neck issues and will retire from active competition. My assumption is that she will try to wrestle again elsewhere once her WWE contract expires and in the meantime she will remain an active talent on the roster in some capacity, either as a manager for Absolution or as a trainer in developmental or even as a commentator. With that being said, it is a sad ending to a once extremely promising WWE career at the young age of 25 years old. She has been wrestling since the age of 12 in England and she doesn’t exactly wrestle a “soft” style so wear and tear in that time period is likely as well as her body frame being as petite as it is. It is sad that wrestling is the only thing she has ever known due to her family. Paige did note on her Instagram that she plans on coming back to wrestle so that tells you all you need to know about where her mindset is. WWE will NOT clear her; EVER so she is going to find a home elsewhere once her deal is up.

- An update on Samoa Joe is that he will in fact be forced to miss the Royal Rumble and then some. His target return date is expected to be March so Mania is still good but the build up to it is out including his impending feud with John Cena. That sucks.

- As witnessed by his song on RAW, Elias will be getting Joe’s spot after Rumble by feuding with Cena. I am ok with this as Elias gets great heat and is a decent worker. Working with Cena can only help him gain confidence and improve so this is a plus. I think I am one of the few who believes he can be successful WITH this gimmick as most people I talk to think he needs to dump the gimmick to be considered a serious main event act.

- I think I am going to make “Things that Booker T Says” a weekly part of my column because his commentary is SO F*CKING STUPID each and every week it is mind blowing. This week Booker, when discussing Sonya Deville noted that WWE has not had someone who knows MMA on the roster since Ken Shamrock. He said this. On Raw. The same Raw where the f*cking Universal Champion is a former UFC HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION IN BROCK LESNAR AND HIS WHOLE F*CKING GIMMICK NOW IS BEING A LEGIT MMA FIGHTER IN WWE?! Come on. Jesus F*cking Christ!!!!!!

- CURB MOTHERF*CKING STOMP!!!! BOOM!!! I am so glad to see it back because that finisher was awesome. I wonder where the change of heart from management came from that they let Rollins bring it back? They did change the name to “The Blackout” so maybe the idea was to keep it out of our heads forever and then bring it back with a new name so they don’t call it the curb stomp?

- So if I get fired from my job on Monday by my boss, all I have to do is destroy property, beat up a dozen or so employees and threaten that everyone will “Get These Hands” and I can get my job back? Interesting.

- While that was a silly angle, I am all for WWE deciding to change direction and give Braun Strowman a run with the title. The crowd was SUPER PISSED at Kurt Angle for firing him at the beginning of the show. With the Roman Reigns news (see later on in this section), now is a good a time as any to pull him from the Mania main event and go with Strowman.

- The Strowman going on a rampage stuff is what gets him over. The crowd only loves him because he f*cks sh*t up.

- I am still waiting for the 50/50 booking to see when The Bar squashes Apollo Crews and Titus O’Neal. Next week?

- Props to Dana Brooke. I wasn’t a fan of her looks before (Not that she was ugly, just not my cup of tea) but she is UBER HOT in her business suits.

- I am not going to lie, I don’t really care about the 205 Live except for Enzo but Cedric Alexander’s “Lumbar Check” is fantastic and he hits it spot on each and every time.

- So Braun Strowman can flip over a truck with his bare hands but can barely lift 180 lb. Michael Cole by his belt? HAHA. Tremendous.

- So they managed to get out of Jax losing to Asuka or vice versa. It was clever that she got “injured” and couldn’t continue as it fits into the Enzo storyline and leaves their eventual one on one legit match to another day down the road. I also liked that they teased that Jax was too much for Asuka to handle. Too bad Asuka had already beaten Jax cleanly in NXT and made her tap.

- It is amazing that each and every year WWE does an amazing job with their Martin Luther King video package. I am curious as to why Vince McMahon considers him such a hero. Word is that he legit takes this holiday seriously and considers it a great honor.

- One of the jobbers who got squashed by the revival was Aaron Solow. He is the fiancé of Bayley. He was teaming with his usual independent partner Ricky Starks and they work independents under the tag team moniker of “Extra Talented”.

- The post-match promo by the Revival leads me to believe that they are getting their asses kicked by someone next week on RAW 25. DX? Austin giving them “Stunners”? Something.

- Smackdown overall was a complete and utter waste of time this week. I don’t remember the last time Smackdown was such a nothing show. It is crazy. Only 4 matches in 2 hours and the rest was talking and talking. Since there was no Kevin Owens or Sami Zayn on the show, there was no drama this week between Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon so that in itself also added to the weird dynamic of the show. It would have made sense to tease some sort of controversy when Daniel Bryan announced that the U.S. title finals would take place this week instead of next since Bobby Roode was injured that way you could have continued to tease his heel turn but they didn’t. Shane was just ok with the decision. By the way, what weird booking was that? Roode was hurt but ok with fighting this week meanwhile heel Jinder Mahal didn’t want the match to happen this week despite the fact that Roode was injured? What?

- Bobby Roode was crowned U.S. Champion on Smackdown this week defeating Jinder Mahal in the finals despite the finals originally being announced to take place at the Royal Rumble and then moved to next week on Smackdown. It was the right call to make however as no one really cared about this tournament and the Mahal experiment has failed miserable. Whatever momentum that Roode had left from his debut until now would have been gone had he lost to Mahal and completely counterproductive especially since they killed off Shinsuke Nakamura for the Mahal experiment. Glad it is over with.

- Roode wins the tournament and still no Dolph Ziggler. Weird. Where the f*ck is he? What the hell is going on?

- Jey Uso was arrested over the weekend in Texas for DUI. He was released on $500 bond on his own recognizance meaning they let him pay his own bail and released him once sober. WWE is investigating the matter and will make any decision on punishment once their investigation is complete. I fully expect to see some form of punishment at the Royal Rumble next week when the Usos lose the tag team titles cause you can bet that is now happening whether or not it was in the original plan or not.

- It is amazing to me that Jey got caught out there driving under the influence since it wasn’t that many years ago that Jimmy was caught for the same thing down in Florida. You would think that with their success over the past few years they would be able to afford an Uber if they got too drunk while out. SMH.

- The Mixed-Match challenge began this week on Facebook with Finn Balor and Sasha Banks defeating Shinsuke Nakamura and Natalya as Banks submitted Natalya with the Bank Statement. It was a cute little match but nothing to write home about. Next week will feature the Miz & Asuka vs. Big E. & Carmella with the winner moving onto face Balor & Banks.

- The winning team of the tournament will get $100,000 donated to a charity of their choosing. Each participating team will get $10,000 donated to their charity.

- As I reported MONTHS AGO and confirmed again last Friday, WWE has announced that Bill Goldberg will be the headliner for the 2018 WWE Hall of Fame. Much deserved despite what you may think about his in-ring ability, he was a certified star and main event talent and did draw well for both WCW and even WWE in his latest comeback against Brock Lesnar. He moved numbers.

- Paul Heyman is currently penciled in to give the induction speech for Goldberg.

- In a weird bit of news that may or may not be based on some semblance of fact, betting sites that take bets on WWE have changed the odds of Daniel Bryan winning the Royal Rumble from 66-1 odds to 9 – 1 odds. That is a HUGE jump in his favor for someone that is not cleared to wrestle. Usually, where there is smoke, there is fire. Just saying.

- As of now, the tentative plan for the Rumble is for Shinsuke Nakamura to win and challenge A.J. for the title at Mania. TREMENDOUS!!!

- Next week is RAW 25 and the list of former WWE talents has grown. Here is the latest update:

  • ”Stone Cold” Steve Austin
  • The Undertaker
  • “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair
  • DX of Shawn Michaels and HHH
  • Scott Hall
  • The New Age Outlaws
  • The Dudley’s
  • The A.P.A.
  • The Bella Twins
  • Jim Ross
  • Jerry “The King” Lawler
  • WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar ©
  • John Cena
  • “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase
  • Brother Love
  • The Godfather
  • The Boogeyman
  • Teddy Long
  • John Lauranaitis
  • Sgt. Slaughter
  • “Mean” Gene Okerlund
  • Eric Bischoff
  • Sean “X-Pac” Waltman
  • Chris Jericho
  • Eric Bischoff
  • Jacqueline Moore
  • Torrie Wilson
  • Terri Runnels
  • Maria Kanellis
  • Michelle McCool
  • Kelly Kelly
  • The Brooklyn Brawler
  • Trish Stratus
  • - There are a lot of “Divas” on the list above and the assumption is that Michelle McCool, Trish Stratus or Kelly Kelly will enter the Women’s Royal Rumble in addition to Molly Holly who is NOT announced for the anniversary show so far.

    - Kevin Nash was forced to pull out of the show due to him still recovering from his knee replacement surgery. He said travel will be difficult on planes due to the limited space on seating. I fully believe he was trying to inch to be flown private but that wasn’t going to fly. LOL. He did confirm that he will be around for Mania in April in New Orleans.

    - Not officially announced but expected to appear on the show is Jeff Hardy. Added per WWE’s website is MVP making his long awaited return to WWE. Also now advertised is Jonathan Coachman, William Regal, Lillian Garcia and Harvey Wippleman.

    - For those wondering, Smackdown stars will be on hand as well. Yes, I know for storyline purposes that doesn’t make any sense since they are rivals and all that but still.

    - Hulk Hogan revealed via social media that he will NOT be on the show. That doesn’t mean something won’t be worked out between when he said it and Monday but as of now, the answer is no.

    - Bret Hart is unable to attend the show however he was asked. He has a hand specialist that is flying in from Paris to see him regarding his limited mobility in his hand due to a botched wrist surgery that he got and is suing over. Hart declined to Vince McMahon personally. He has also been lobbying to have the Hart Foundation inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as apparently Jim Neidhart’s health is declining and he feels Jim should be in the Hall although he’d never get inducted as a solo act. My assumption is that it will not happen this year as the Dudley Boys are going in and WWE liked to keep it to one tag team, one woman and one deceased person per year.

    - Mick Foley was also asked to attend however felt for storyline purposes that he shouldn’t appear on the show since he was fired by Stephanie McMahon and HHH and thus shouldn’t want to do them any favors by appearing for at least a year.

    - WWE Women’s Money In The Bank holder Carmella confirmed this week that she and longtime boyfriend Big Cass have indeed broken up and are no longer a couple. That must be tough considering they purchased a house together last year in Florida before his injury and that story was just featured on Total Divas this week. He is still rehabbing his injury and is expected to return around Wrestlemania.

    - “Woken” Matt Hardy revealed that Senior Benjamin, Queen Rebecca, King Maxel, Lord Wolfgang and Vanguard 1 will all be debuting imminently to the Woken Universe. He asked fans to give it patience so his character can develop before introducing the others. He also confirmed in an interview to IGN that there 100% will be a “Final Deletion” style match on WWE television in the future. YAY!!!

    - Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville both missed live events last weekend with the flu that has been going around the locker room. They were both on television but were not 100%. Braun Strowman and Enzo Amore were infected by it the previous week.

    - Kari Sane is out of action with an undisclosed injury. That is why she was taken out by Shayna Baszler on NXT and why Baszler is getting the title shot against Ember Moon next week at NXT Takeover.

    - NXT announcer Mauro Ranallo noted that he almost choked to death last week and legitimately had his life saved by longtime friend Frank Shamrock who performed the Heimlich maneuver that dislodged the food from his throat. Ranallo encouraged all of his social media followers to learn this as well as CPR because he guarantees that if Shamrock wasn’t there, he’d be dead and called it the scariest situation he has ever been involved in.

    - WWE confirmed on their website that they have signed Trevor “Ricochet” Mann to a contract and he has begun at the WWE Performance Center earlier this week. Well deserved. He is awesome and actually is ready to join the main roster immediately but he will start in NXT. Hopefully he isn’t down there forever.

    - War Machine of Hanson and Rowe are also signed and will debut in NXT imminently. I am glad that they signed as they are essentially much better versions of the Ascension and Authors of Pain. Hanson in particular is a sight to see due to his size because he does a lot of notable high flying stuff.

    - It is believed that Ricochet and War Machine are all signed to 3 year contracts.

    - Also reporting to the Performance Center this week with Ricochet are Candice LeRae, Kavita Devi from the Mae Young Classic and a few others. Candice LeRae is the wife of NXT Superstar Johnny Gargano.

    - What are the odds that his name changes to Rick O’Shea?

    - WWE has also announced the signing of Rinku Singh. Singh won a reality series titled “Million Dollar Arm” which was a contest to win a contract to a major league baseball team. Singh won the contest in 2014 and was with the Pittsburgh Pirates in their minor leagues before being released in 2016 due to various injuries including Tommy John surgery. He tried out for WWE in Dubai last year and was signed. He actually has a Disney movie that was made about him called “Million Dollar Arm” starring John Hamm as the scout who signed him.

    - Former Impact star Ethan Carter III is in fact WWE bound. He has agreed to return to the company and was actually working out at the WWE Performance Center earlier this week. ECIII was in the developmental system for several years working in both OVW and FCW (The NXT predecessor) under his real name as well as under the WWE given name of Derrick Bateman appearing on the WWE Raw/Smackdown version of NXT in both the 4th season won by Johnny Curtis now known as Fandango and had his WWE pro being Daniel Bryan as well as the 5th season which had no winner and was forgotten before being released and going independent and eventually signing with TNA as Dixie Carter’s “nephew”. He also was forced to cancel an independent booking scheduled for SUNDAY, JANUARY 28th. Hmmmm……????

    - Bobby Lashley who also finished up with Impact is also negotiating a return to WWE. He has NOT finalized a deal yet as he is weighing options and has an offer from New Japan who has shown interest. While I am sure New Japan offered him a solid deal, he is 41 and has more money potential with WWE at this age with more big money matches on the horizon especially against Brock Lesnar. The issues that caused Lashley to leave in the first place which was largely based on Michael Hayes and his “attitude” are still around however the corporate structure is in fact different as it has been a decade since he departed and Hayes, while still influential, doesn’t wield anywhere near the power he once did and was actually demoted since Lashley has been gone.

    - James Storm, who was released from Impact a month ago is angling to try and get a WWE deal. I am not sure how his departure was other than the fact that he worked a one-off for NXT, got a HUGE pop and won his match. It aired on NXT TV and he was put over strong with the thought that he would come in only to get offered a ridiculous deal by TNA and thus he left almost immediately. WWE couldn’t be happy about this. No way do they offer him anywhere near what he was getting in TNA which was rumored to be about $200,000 a year. If he wants in, he will likely have to take a major pay cut and eat some crow to do so. A standard NXT contract for a “name” that goes to NXT is around $65,000 (Samoa Joe, Eric Young, Bobby Roode) so one would think that is the ballpark they are going to offer him.

    - WWE is also adding to their Indian roster member contingent as they have signed 33 year old, 6 foot 8 actor Saurav Gurjar best known for being a roster member of TNA’s Indian offshoot project Ra Ka King. He is a semi-celebrity in India so that is good as it will garner them more publicity there.

    - There was a story floating around last week that a former gym owner named Richard Rodriquez who owned “Iron Addicts” gym in Miami Florida and is currently in prison for steroid distribution claims to have sold steroids to Roman Reigns. I did not report it because it is an accusation which without proof isn’t true. That being said, the guy also claims to have sold steroids to Mark Wahlberg. Let me make something clear right now that will debunk this entire story. There is ZERO PERCENT CHANCE that Wahlberg, a man who made in excess of $60 million last year from movies, is buying steroids from a f*cking gym owner. Wahlberg absolutely gets any performance enhancing drugs from professionals in countries that it is legal. On top of that, on the off chance that Wahlberg would buy from a gym owner, there is NO WAY he is buying it himself. He is 110% sending someone in his crew to get it for him. Have you ever seen the HBO show Entourage? That show is loosely based on Wahlberg’s life in acting. So if Wahlberg needed steroids, guess what? He is sending “Turtle” or “E” to go buy it. He ain’t buying it himself. Get your head out of your ass folks. This Rodriquez is lying to make the news.

    - Through the WWE, Reigns released the following statement: "I have never heard of Richard Rodriguez or Wellness Fitness Nutrition. I learned from the mistake I made nearly two years ago and paid the penalty for it. Since then, I've passed 11 tests as part of WWE’s independent drug testing program."

    - Happy Birthday to WWE Hall of Famer Pat Paterson as he turns 80 years old today.

    - Congrats to Maria Kanellis and Mike Kanellis as they confirmed that they are in fact having a baby girl. Maria will be appearing on the WWE 25 show next Monday which will probably mark the first time that a visibly pregnant roster member appears on WWE programming.

    - Mae Young Classic participant Jazzy Gabert underwent neck surgery earlier this week and is now recovering. He goal is to get better and get her WWE contract offered back in a year. Hopefully she succeeds as it sucks that she had the offer and lost it due to failed medicals.

    - In an interview conducted earlier this week, Alberto El Patron revealed that he has apologized privately to Triple H for all of the comments he made about him in the recent past and claimed it was because his ex-partner at the time (Referring to Paige) and her family made him believe that Triple H and WWE were the ones effecting their relationship. He noted that he is absolutely interested in returning to WWE and that while he wouldn’t want a full time schedule; he would love to go back and do some things before he retires.

    - Former WWE women star Eva Marie revealed to In Style magazine that she is a recovering alcoholic and is now 5 years sober.

    - Also congrats go out to podcast host Conrad Thompson as it came out this week that he is engaged to Megan Flair, oldest daughter to WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair and sister to WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Charlotte.

    - Actor Bradley Cooper was OFFICIALLY offered the lead role in the film “Pandemonium” which is the film based on the life of Vince McMahon. Should Cooper accept the part and WWE approves the new script, the film will begin shooting in the spring with an expected release of early 2019.

    - TERRIBLE. Per Jim Ross: “This morning, Norman Judge Steven Stice felt compelled to dismiss vehicular homicide charges against the 17-year-old in my wife Jan’s death. The state objected to no avail. The driver never even lost his driver’s license. Sad world in which we live, folks.”

    - Impact taped several weeks of television last week with shows being recorded to last through April which will be their next set of tapings. The shows featured several title changes as well as several departures from the company. Most notably gone and possibly WWE bound are Bobby Lashley and Ethan Carter III. Lashley is interesting because he has developed into a real solid character and persona. Having him back in WWE when you have Brock Lesnar running around and other such tough guy bullies like Braun Strowman and Samoa Joe will be interesting. Putting Lashley on Smackdown for example and having him be the “Brock” of that brand to build to an eventual confrontation would be GOLD.

    - Lashley being gone is kind of funny of you think of the angle behind it. For MONTHS now Lashley was involved in an angle featuring his MMA teammates from American Top Team coming into Impact to convince Lashley to give up wrestling and fight for Bellator MMA full time. They even did matches to try and get him out of his Impact contract. Eventually, Lashley turned on ATT and decides that he is giving up MMA to stick with Impact. American Top Team is DONE and Lashley sticks around only to LEAVE IMPACT IN THE END ANYWAY? LOLZ.

    - As for EC III, he has been a good person on the Impact roster for a long time. He has already signed with WWE and is expected to debut shortly.

    - Laurel Van Ness is also gone from the company. She requested her release at the last set of tapings but being that she was the Knockouts Champion; Impact refused to release her until she came back and dropped the title. She did and they have granted it for her. I do believe she will get an opportunity in WWE as I cannot imagine her leaving Impact where she was featured prominently if she didn’t have a backup plan. It doesn’t hurt that she is Zack Ryder’s girlfriend so I am assuming she has an “in” or else she wouldn’t have left.

    - Impact has retired the “Grand Championship” as Matt Sydal won the title and then forfeited it to Josh Matthews after he won the X-Division title. This was part of Sydal’s heel turn.

    - Chris Adonis formerly Chris Masters in WWE is also gone announcing he is done with the promotion. This was NOT Impact’s decision as he quit at some point during the tapings and left the promotion. Both sides wished each other the best via social media but by all accounts, it was not an amicable split and came out of nowhere. Hopefully we will see him in WWE one day as he was talented and became a hell of a hand once leaving but his age may play a factor as well as him being gone for so long.

    - Impact brought in Scott Steiner to replace Adonis as Eli Drake’s “heavy” and Steiner will be teaming with Drake in his new feud with LAX over the tag team titles.

    - In an experiment, OVE & Sami Callihan fought LAX in a barb wire massacre match at the latest set of tapings. Due to the violence, the match will NOT air on Impact and instead will air on TWITCH. For those wondering, that was always the intent, to get people to watch via Twitch as they officially announced their partnership this week noting that Twitch will feature monthly Live Events from around the country, bonus backstage content from Impact not shown on Pop TV, specials, interviews and other content.

    - The Twitch Channel for Impact is up and running and has content 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

    - While I have noted several times that the new Impact roster is lacking major star power, I am glad they are heading in the right direction creatively and that Anthem is allowing them to take time to get things right. The April 2nd PPV will now be called “Redemption” instead of “Lockdown” as the new regime of Scott D’Amore and Don Callis do not want an all steel cage match PPV. That is fantastic since a cage is extremely limiting and having 8 – 10 cage matches all on one show was always a terrible idea especially since a cage match should be a blow-off to a feud.

    - Best wishes to Eddie Edwards as he suffered a broken nose and other facial injuries including a severe black eye when he was wrestling Sami Callihan at the tapings and he hit a steel chair that Callihan was holding with a baseball bat and the bat ended up ricocheting off the chair and snapped back to hit him in the face. Thankfully he will not need surgery and will be fine with no concussion.

    - Jerry Lynn has been hired full time as an agent. Super surprised that he wasn’t hired earlier by ANYONE to be an agent. He has been retired for a few years now and you would think that WWE or ROH or the regime before this one would have brought him in since he has a wealth of knowledge to share.

    - Tommy Dreamer worked this set of tapings as an agent but he is NOT under contract. He was brought in as a favor to help out backstage due to the absence of Sonjay Dutt who was unable to travel because of his recent surgery.

    - The Sinister Minister a.k.a. Father James Mitchell was brought back as an on-air talent as well as “Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner. Mitchell is a great talker so I can see the use in him. Steiner however, he is well into his 50’s with a deteriorating body and a physique that is not what it once was. I do not see the benefit of bringing him in.

    - Brian Cage made his debut and was involved in EC III’s swan song as he destroyed Carter and left him laying as his goodbye. Cage is getting a major push as he also defeated Lashley in Lashley’s final match with the promotion so essentially he “took out” two top talents.

    - Kongo Kong is getting a push hence his beating of Abyss in a “Monster’s Ball” match.

    - Hania the Huntress, ever heard of her? Nope? Me neither. Anyway, she was given an opportunity to work the tapings and was subsequently fired for refusing to do a job to the debuting Su Yung. Seriously.

    - Absolutely thoughts and prayers go out to former Knockouts Champion Sienna. She was hospitalized during the most recent set of Impact Tapings after suffering from labored breathing and sharp pain on deep breaths. She thought she had suffered some sort of rib injury or even a collapsed lung. Upon going to the emergency room it was revealed that she had a blood clot in each lung that had not been treated would have likely killed her. Scary.

    - Impact officials were unable to come to an agreement with Rey Mysterio and he was NOT at the tapings in any capacity. So if they are still negotiating with him, the soonest he would be able to debut would be April at the Redemption PPV or TV following the PPV.

Ring of Honor / New Japan / Lucha Underground / Independent / International News and Notes:

    - In news that comes as a shock to most who know especially with the WWE Hall of Fame announcement, Bill Goldberg is in negotiations to wrestle for New Japan. Obviously he wouldn’t wrestle anytime around April due to Mania but likely over the summer unless WWE offers him some sort of long term deal. In order to get into the WWE Hall of Fame, WWE signs you to a short term contract to prevent this exact sort of situation meaning that if he does come to a deal with New Japan, he likely wouldn’t be able to appear until well after Mania. Still this is weird on top of all that because Goldberg doesn’t exactly fit the New Japan style and there aren’t that many top people that he can work with who can adjust their styles to get a quality NJPW type match from him with the exception of Tanahashi and maybe Omega. That is about it. I cannot see Okada being able to carry him to the type of match most expect.

    - Deoanna Purrazzo has signed a contract with Ring of Honor. It is non-exclusive meaning that she can work other promotions, even with television so long as ROH has first option of dates. ROH is signing a bunch of independent females for their Women of Honor division and are looking to reach similar deals with Mandy Leon, Sumie Sakai and others.

    - ROH announced their annual “War of the Worlds” tour which is ROH vs. NJPW shows will take place on May 9th in Lowell Massachusetts, May 11th in Toronto Canada, May 12th in Detroit Michigan and May 13th in Chicago Illinois.

    - Tessa Blanchard is #AllIn as she announced that she will be appearing on the show hosted by Cody and The Young Bucks in September. An announcement of the venue is expected soon.

    - Speaking of the Bucks, they got into it again with UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier this week on Twitter before burying the hatchet with him. Cormier riled up Bullet Club fans a few weeks ago when discussing a random dropkick spot that was floating around the net in GIF form. Cormier bashed it but it was taken out of context since the stuff leading up to it or after it weren’t shown. They went back and forth on it before it being let go. Then things started up this week again when Matt Jackson was responding to a random tweet from a fan and Cormier somehow thought he was talking about him and they then went back and forth. Cormier has since apologized noting he has a big fight coming tomorrow and gets agitated easily during fight week. Both Nick and Matt Jackson also apologized for furthering the situation and wished him luck on his fight.

    - Ricochet has hid final PWG match at the annual “Mystery Vortex” show last weekend losing the PWG title to his former trainer Chuck Taylor. The show is an annual show where NO TALENT or MATCHES are advertised in advance. The show always sells out despite fans not knowing anyone or anything happening. PWG takes it one step further in that before the show starts, NO ONE is out selling their merchandise and then at intermission, those who are on the show and have not wrestled yet aren’t selling their merchandise either. Following the loss to Taylor, they had a going away ceremony for Ricochet in the ring. For the record, Ricochet absolutely could have phoned it in being that it was his last match before reporting to WWE and the fans would have understood. Instead, he went all out including on the finish where he missed a 630 splash and landed on THUMBTACKS. Ugh.

    MMA News and Notes:

    - It was a very frightening weekend for UFC as Urijah Hall was scheduled to main event the UFC Fight Night last Sunday vs. Vitor Belfort in what was to be Belfort’s final MMA fight but was forced to pull out after passing out before weigh in’s due to weight cutting issues. His kidneys began to fail and he passed out on the way to weigh in for the fight and was in convulsions. Paige VanZant who was also fighting on the card said it was the scariest moment she has ever witnessed in MMA. Hall was hospitalized for 2 days following the incident before being released in stable condition.

    - Dana White placed the blame solely on Hall for his condition noting that he was informed that Hall didn’t take his training seriously and during camp went from Las Vegas to Los Angeles a few times to party and hang out in clubs. He said that Hall should move to Light Heavyweight.

    - Hall has since noted that doctors informed him he has a slight heart attack during his incident. That is insane. Doctors told him that had he not suffered the heart attack and seizure, he likely would have died the next day any way.

    - Speaking of VanZant, MAJOR props to her for being a warrior as while she lost her fight last week by decision, she fought 2 and a half rounds with a broken arm as the bone completely snapped yet she continued fighting on. Wow. The injury came when she attempted a spinning back fist in the first round and her forearm hit Jessica Rose-Clark’s head.

    - Jessica Rose-Clark’s win was bittersweet as when she got home from being gone for a week, she found her home was burglarized with over $30,000 of stuff missing as well as her pet cat was murdered by whoever broke into her home. Sad.

    - In the wake of Urijah Hall being pulled from his fight, UFC offered Vitor Belfort a replacement fight for both that night as well as tomorrow’s UFC PPV. Belfort turned down the opportunity noting that he’d like to be the one to fight Michael Bisping in Bisping’s retirement fight.

    - Bisping said he is 100% positive that he will NOT fight Vitor Belfort in London because he doesn’t like Vitor and that Vitor is a drug cheat and is the reason that his eye is permanently damaged due to Vitor being roided up when they fought.

    - As of this writing, UFC President Dana White is strongly leaning towards stripping Conor McGregor of the UFC Lightweight title. McGregor has been telling people that he doesn’t plan on fighting until September which if that is in fact the case would mark 2 years since he won the title defeating Eddie Alvarez. He legit would have held up the division for 2 years. WOW.

    - With that announcement, White noted that Tony Ferguson vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov has been signed for UFC 223 on April 7th in Brooklyn New York and it will either be for Ferguson’s interim lightweight title or if they strip McGregor, for the Official UFC Lightweight title. The winner of that fight will then defend against McGregor in their first defense in September if that is when he wants to fight.

    - UFC is also targeting a rematch of Rose Namajunas vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk rematch for UFC 223 but that has not been finalized yet. They really have to stack this show in order to be successful as UFC isn’t as popular as it has been in the past and this is the first time in MANY years that they are running a PPV the day before Wrestlemania. It is tougher for UFC now because of the lack of star power as well as going head to head with NXT Takeover and a Ring of Honor PPV.

    - UFC is negotiating with a 35,000 seat stadium in Russia for a potential September 15th show which they hope to headline with Nurmagomedov defending the Lightweight title against McGregor but that all depends on Khabib defeating Ferguson and McGregor agreeing to the fight.

    - White also confirmed that Rafael dos Anjos will be the next in line for a UFC Welterweight Championship fight as soon as Tyrone Woodley is recovered from his recent torn labrum surgery.

    - DOWN GOES WHITAKER. UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whitaker was injured during training and is OUT of his February 11th title defense against Luke Rockhold. Rockhold will now face Yoel Romero for the INTERIM title and the winner will go onto defend against Whitaker at a later date. It sucks for Whitaker as he was already interim champion having defeated Romero last summer only to be crowned official champion when George St. Pierre vacated the title last month. Whitaker has not fought since winning the title vs. Romero last summer due to various injuries. It is also sad because he is from Australia and the card was being held in Perth Australia so it was a homecoming for Whitaker.

    - With Whitaker withdrawing from this fight, UFC has been inundated with refund requests. That is NOT a good thing for this PPV.

    - Cris “Cyborg” Justino vs. Amanda Nunes. Make it happen UFC.

    - UFC MATT HUGHES TRIBUTE VIDEO that aired during last week’s show.

    - I don’t know what to make of this but Jon Jones took and passed an independent polygraph test noting that he did not knowingly take performance enhancing drugs.

    - Josh Barnett may be forced into retirement as he noted that he does not trust USADA and will not speak to them regarding any settlement to his 2016 drug test failure. Due to past failures, he could be suspended for 4 years dating back to this failure meaning he would not be able to fight until late 2019. At his age….ugh.

    - Former Bellator MMA color commentator Jimmy Smith has signed with UFC. Good for him, I feel like he is talented and with Brian Stann leaving the promotion last year and Joe Rogan only working select shows, he is a good replacement.

    - Bellator confirmed that tomorrow’s main event will in fact be Chael Sonnen vs. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and NOT the Bellator MMA Welterweight title fight between Doug Lima and Rory MacDonald. I get that that draw will be the names of Sonnen and Rampage but title defense should always be the main event if you ask me.

    - By the way, weigh ins for this fight took place earlier today and Rampage weighed in 31 lbs. heavier than Sonnen. LOL. This f*cking company.

    - THIS LINK is for LIFE. Thank you soldiers. WELCOME HOME BLOG.

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week: So Hawaii had an eventful weekend. How was your weekend? But did you almost die? No. So it was not as eventful as Hawaii. P.S., no way was this some random accident despite whatever the f*ck the government says.

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week PART 1: Every single year we get a story like this. Usually it is a kidnapped person who has been held by someone but this story is different because it is the parents of the victims. Not excusing their behavior because it is still a sick f*cking story. No, on the contrary. The reason I mentioned the kidnap victims however is because even though we only get like one major story like this per year, the odds are that there are a TON or stories like this that we do not know or hear about because the victims are still under lock and key. Think about it. This girl says they have been like this for years. Well subtract a few years from 2018 and I am sure we had a similar story like this back in 2011 let’s say. Well that story in 2011 overlaps with this and so on. There are so many people being held captive in the United States right under everyone’s noses. Crazy.

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week PART 2: Lost her life for defending herself from being bullied. Don’t get me wrong, it is great we have one less bully out on the street and hopefully she will see some form of “street justice” take place while in prison but still, a life lost over bullsh*t is one life too many. Sad.

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week PART 3: With a 10 year old son of my own, this definitely hits close to home. I cannot imagine the pain the family is going through right now all because of the f*cking flu. Ugh. So sad. If you or a family member gets sick, go get checked out. Immediately.

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week PART 4: I get that people are dying and that sucks but just to be clear, we all understand that these activist groups are actively supporting illegal immigrants coming into this country illegally. That is what I am reading isn’t it? They are blaming Border Patrol officers sabotaging their supplies that are being left for PEOPLE ILLEGALLY ENTERING THE COUNTRY. So they are complaining about aiding and abetting to a crime as well as littering. Really?

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week PART 5: Reading more and more about these Olympic sexual assaults by Larry Nassar and I am f*cking flabbergasted as to how in the world this man STILL worked for Team USA when he was accused of assaulting minors WAY before he was arrested. How come he wasn’t suspended pending an investigation? He was allowed to continue to work with children and teens? WTF?

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week PART 6: If this turns out to be true, MMA, NFL, Hockey, Boxing and wrestling are all f*cked royally. This is a BIG breakthrough.

    - Avengers: Infinity War actor Anthony Mackie in a recent interview confirmed that there is a scene in Infinity War that has 40 Marvel heroes in it. Think about that for a second. 40 Marvel characters IN ONE SCENE. Now considering we know the cast, that means we are either getting people who haven’t been announced yet from past films or potentially future films as well as counting the new villains that have been added to the franchise. So far we have:

  • Ironman
  • Captain America
  • Thor
  • The Hulk
  • Spider-Man
  • Dr. Strange
  • Wong
  • Black Panther
  • Okoye
  • Shuri
  • M’Baku
  • Ant-Man
  • Hawkeye
  • Black Widow
  • War Machine
  • Vision
  • Scarlett Witch
  • Falcon
  • Winter Soldier
  • Loki
  • Valkerie
  • Star Lord
  • Gamora
  • Drax
  • Rocket Racoon
  • Groot
  • Mantis
  • Nebula
  • That is only 28 people. Including Thanos and his “children” if we add them, we would have 33. So I am still missing 7 people. WTF?!?!?

    - Stand-up comedian Sandra Benincasa has offered any journalist a $300 reward who asks President Trump about U.S. relations with Wakanda. I wish I had White House press credentials. LOL.

    - Actor Keiynan Lonsdale (Wally West/Kid Flash) has been named a series regular on WB’s “Legends of Tomorrow”.

    - The Walking Dead has been expectedly picked up for a 9th season by AMC and Scott Gimple will no longer be the showrunner of the show as he has been promoted to the brand’s “Chief Creative Officer” for both TWD and Fear the Walking Dead. Angela Kang, an executive producer for the show dating back to 2011 will now be head showrunner. The current season returns from mid-season hiatus on February 25th.

    - Starz has confirmed that their currently in development show “The Continental” about the hotel chain from the John Wick franchise that serves as a base of operations for assassins around the world will in fact have a guest appearance by Executive producer Keanu Reeves at some point reprising his character John Wick. The show will be a prequel to the John Wick films however will likely NOT focus on the Manhattan Branch of the hotel therefore will not be starring Ian McShane in the role of New York location owner Winston.

    - John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are currently in talks with Warner Brothers to write and direct the Flash solo film “Flashpoint”. The duo is best known for being the screen writers for the successful “Spider-Man: Homecoming” film.

    - Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo has just signed an extension to her contract for another 2 years and will now serve as a producer of the show in her new role as well as an Executive producer of the Grey’s spin-off based on firefighters set to debut on March 22nd. Her new deal will pay her around $20 million a year. Good for her.

    - Of all the f*cking reboots, someone is rebooting “Party of Five”. Really? On Freeform. Now thanks to Party of Five for giving us Neve Campbell, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Lacey Chabert but honestly, unless we get another 3 hot chicks from this show, I am giving it a preemptive thumbs down.

    - Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” has surpassed $700 million worldwide and surpassed expectations by A LOT. Huge success for the Rock. Congrats.

    - Director Chad Stahelski has been confirmed to return to direct “John Wick: Chapter 3” to be released on May 17th, 2019. Reprising their roles from John Wick 2 are Common, Ruby Rose and Laurence Fishburne.
