T.G.I.F. with Matt Dawgs: #432

Good day to you all and welcome to We Want Insanity. I am your host for today, Matt Dawgs and this is my column. Today is the end of the work week and the time to look back at all the goings-on over the past seven days as I wrap it up with a bow and spout it out bit by bit. Buckle up. Enjoy the ride.

IMPORTANT MATT NOTE:: I am hoping that you readers have taken the time to lend a hand and donated to the JAIDAN STRONG cause for me. I’d really appreciate it if you did; as little as $5 can go a long way. If not, it isn’t a big deal but please at least SHARE THE LINK. I get that finances can be tough for some but taking the time to share a link via your social media doesn’t cost a dime. I’d appreciate it greatly as one of your friends or family members may be able to help out. Thanks.

BONUS MATT NOTE: Changes are coming. Changes are coming. Stay tuned.

- WWE presented Monday Night Raw and have begun to shape their Wrestlemania line up in the process. Some things are being shaken up from original plans including the Elimination Chamber which was originally set to have both Seth Rollins and Jason Jordan participate in that match and instead will now have Miz replacing one of them with the final spot in the match going to one of the participants who have already been eliminated from the match as next week we will have a 4 way between Finn Balor, Bray Wyatt, Matt Hardy and Apollo Crews. I think it is pretty fair to say that we all know who is winning that one.

- I’ve said it a few times already but say what you want about Roman Reigns and his lack of ability to get over or be a top babyface but you cannot deny that he has good matches almost every time out. He can work and at this point in his career and main event push, he is far better than John Cena was by comparison. It took Cena time to work as well as he does. Reigns got it really quickly which I am sure can be attributed to his family pedigree. His match with Bray Wyatt on Monday was an example of that as it went almost 15 minutes and was solid. Having good matches with Bray Wyatt involved in them is few and far between.

- I really wish the creative team could be “Woken” so they could fix Matt Hardy. Ugh.

- Balor needs to turn. Babyface Finn with the babyface Balor Club isn’t clicking with me.

- Looks like we are back on the Bayley vs. Sasha Banks feud. They had teased it months ago before going away from it. Do we actually get a Sasha turn or does Bayley turn? Interesting. Bayley is DEAD as a babyface but I cannot see her character being a heel. It is so mind blowing that they had a female version of John Cena in her and they blew it completely.

- Then again I really can’t be surprised they blew it with her since Matt Hardy was the hottest commodity in wrestling just over a year ago and now he is ICE COLD with the same gimmick. Boy does WWE creative know how to f*ck up sure things huh?

- The women’s Elimination Chamber match is also set as Alexa Bliss will defend her Raw Women’s Title against Bayley, Sasha Banks, Sonia Deville, Mickie James and Mandy Rose with the winner going onto Wrestlemania.

- Asuka has NOT made her selection as to which title she will be going for but at Elimination Chamber, she will face off with Nia Jax and if Jax wins, she will be added to the Raw women’s title match at Mania so if Asuka chooses the winner of the Women’s Elimination Chamber, it will be a three way match. If she chooses Smackdown women’s champion Charlotte then Jax will be the women’s challenger by herself. This is interesting as it leads us to believe that Jax will face best friend Alexa Bliss at Mania as the long standing rumor is that Asuka will choose Charlotte. That being said, this means that Jax WINS her match at EC and thus ends Asuka’s undefeated streak and that kind of sucks in my opinion. If Asuka is DQ’d or whatever then it also sucks because it means Jax backs into the title match and that isn’t a good plan as she should be booked strong going into Mania.

- By the way, Angle noted that Bliss hadn’t defended the Raw women’s title since October at TLC. Remember when Naomi was stripped of her title last year right before Mania because Daniel Bryan noted that she wouldn’t be able to defend the title in 30 days due to injury and then she was back in a little more than 30 days and won the title back at Mania? HAHA. Good times.

- Armbar win by Asuka on Bayley in a good match. It is interesting to see that they went back to the armbar especially with Rousey now under contract.

- Miz and Mojo Rawley were doing interviews on their iPhone’s for social media a few months back and both were well done. So what does WWE do? They decide to run the idea into the ground and have EVERYONE do iPhone interviews; only not for social media. Oh no. They do them for LIVE TV!!! And they are horrible.

- Miz = HEEL HEAT 101. Amazing man noting in his promo that beating Reigns for the I.C. title a few weeks ago was the highest rated RAW in 3 years. LOL. The rating came due to it being Raw 25. That was GOLD.

- Is Seth Rollins a heel? I am asking because he was pissed off that Jason Jordan couldn’t compete in the tag team title match even though a doctor told Rollins he couldn’t. Then in the main event, Jordan was preventing The Bar from getting counted out and thus keeping their titles and got Rollins and Reigns DQ’d when he defended himself against the Bar. Then backstage Rollins, THE BABYFACE, tells Jordan that the real reason he is mad is because he wasn’t the one who injured Jordan. What??!?!?!?!

- Jason Jordan underwent a minor neck surgery earlier this week. The reason for this was a “stop gap” measure in order for him to recover and make it to Wrestlemania. His neck is by no means fixed and eventually he is still going to need MAJOR surgery. It may hold him down for the next several months or even several years but it wasn’t something that was going to completely heal him. The plan is for him to work against Seth Rollins at Wrestlemania but that is all dependent on his rehab and healing.

- My opinion on Jordan getting surgery is that it is a TERRIBLE idea. I get that he is in a great position on the roster and at a place he probably never dreamed he’d be at considering before he and Gable were put together as a team in NXT, he was on the chopping and almost released, that he doesn’t want to lose his spot but he is setting a dangerous precedent. His neck injury is very serious and he is going to severely shorten his active career by a few years as most that get fusion surgery have less of a wrestling life span. Working through it and minimizing the severity of it in order to make it to Wrestlemania. I guess I am not in his shoes and maybe he feels like this could be his only Wrestlemania moment and next year he could be in the Andre Battle Royal so from his perspective it may be now or never.

- I love how Nia Jax in her in ring promo noted that Jax is the one person that Asuka can’t beat yet in NXT she beat her clean as well as beaten her on WWE TV. Or are we going to pretend that never happened?

- WWE either did not know or had a change in policy but Nia Jax’s opponent on Monday that she squashed that wrestled under the name Vanessa Floyd was actually Savannah Stone. She is 17 years old. WWE tends not to use talent that is under 18.

- I love how Absolution, like their Smackdown copy cats The Riott Squad, are just regular girls now. No longer special and no longer a force to be reckoned with. They are just regular girls like everyone else.

- I feel legitimately bad for Paige. She isn’t even allowed to put the boots to anyone. There actually is no point to her being at ringside if WWE won’t even let her get physically involved in matches.

- Don’t let the main event of Raw fool you. Elias pinning John Cena wasn’t Elias coronation. Cena didn’t “do business” or “put him over”. That entire match was made to build Brawn Strowman. Strowman’s finish is what got the pin. Strowman murdering Cena and Elias after the match was made to keep Strowman hot. That’s all.

- I have noted my enthusiasm for the A.J. feud with Zayn and Owens but it better not lead to a Mania match between the two. While I know they would love to have it since they are best friends and it would have potential to steal the show, I have no confidence WWE would give them the time they deserve for it and it would be a throw away 8 minute match. No one wants that. So they better be pivoting to something else more important. The only logical thing in all this is a tag match against Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan and absolutely by this week’s episode of Smackdown made it seem like that is what they are building to but they have been adamant that Bryan isn’t wrestling. So I don’t know; handicaps match vs. Shane maybe? LOL.

- So Dolph Ziggler returns next week on Smackdown. He will be facing Baron Corbin and the winner according to Shane McMahon will be added to the main event of the “Fastlane” PPV against A.J., Owens and Zayn in a four way for the title. So we are clear, Ziggler He won the U.S. title and then the next show he was on, forfeited the U.S. title because he was under appreciated by fans and management and quit the company. Out of the blue with no explanation, he then makes a surprise appearance in the Royal Rumble in the coveted number 30 spot. He loses the Rumble and then disappears again for three weeks. Now, not only is he coming back AGAIN but he is being gifted with a possible title shot at the next PPV? Are they ever going to explain what the hell this angle was about? Why is he being rewarded for quitting the company and forcing them to hold a tournament after vacating a title? What the f*ck is happening here? Who wrote this sh*t?

- Here are the first Smackdown Top 10 Rankings that Daniel Bryan has implemented to the show. I do not know the purpose of these rankings as originally I thought they were for people to get title shots but with A.J. at #1 and Charlotte at #2, I really do not understand the point of it. SMH.

  • - Roderick Strong made his 205 Live debut in the Cruiserweight Title Tournament and he is apparently sticking around as he won his first round match against Hideo Itami!!! The match was very good and probably the best in-ring match on WWE TV this week. Too bad the fans couldn’t have cared less about it. It is a shame that Strong is stuck there as he could be a great contributor on Smackdown Live.

    - According to MIKE JOHNSON at PWInsider.com, the reason for the change in format for 205 Live and it becoming a wrestling based product as witnessed by this week’s episode, is due to Triple H taking over the creative reigns of the show. Since inception, Vince McMahon has been very hands on with the product. That stopped this week as Vince let HHH have complete control and will continue to have it moving forward. The format will now be more in-ring based and similar to the Cruiserweight Classic which is what HHH first envisioned before Vince took it over.

    - HHH is also getting more control over RAW and Smackdown as Vince McMahon has been pre-occupied with the launch of the XFL. While Vince is still hands on with both shows, he is deferring a lot to HHH hence why HHH has been putting his own staff in place down in NXT with William Regal, Gabe Sapolsky and the recently hired Jeremy Borash.

    - HHH has also hired former WWE Diva Serena Deeb as a full time women’s coach in developmental working under Sara D’Amato. She began in the Performance Center this week as a women’s trainer. It is a shame she can’t wrestle full time anymore as she showed at the Mae Young Classic that she can still go and to the surprise of many, she is ONLY 31 years old. WOW.

    - McMahon isn’t only scaling back his wrestling duties. During WWE’s earnings call yesterday, he officially promoted George Barrios and Michelle Wilson to “co-President” of the company as well as named them to the Board of Directors. Barrios was previously the Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Financial Officer. Wilson was the Chief Revenue Officer and Chief Marketing Officer. McMahon will still remain as CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors. McMahon reiterated to shareholders that his position will remain unchanged with WWE in both creative and on the business side but the assumption is that with Barrios and Wilson in their new roles and Paul Levesque fulfilling more and more of the creative end, McMahon is going to be solely focused on getting the XFL off the ground. He noted that the XFL will be run by “football” people. Well he needs to hire those football people and the assumption is he is going to move towards putting those people in place.

    - It is good to see Drake Maverick as GM of 205 Live and also good that he is playing a serious character as opposed to his comedic persona. Also extremely interesting that they are making it public that he was formerly known as Rockstar Spud. It wasn’t a one off that they mentioned it.

    - NXT has begun the annual Dusty Classic Tag Team Tournament. The tournament begun last week at the TV tapings and will begin to air over the next several shows.

    - It is expected that War Machine will debut in the tournament with the finals expected to take place at Takeover: New Orleans.

    - Spoiler alert if you do not already know but Johnny Gargano has LOST a “Loser Leaves NXT” match against NXT Champion Andrade “Cien” Almas. I do not know if this means he will be called up to the main roster or what but if he does, it means we will NOT get to see the conclusion of his angle with former DIY partner Tommaso Ciampa as Ciampa is not due back yet. I do think that an angle will come out of it with Gargano ending up back in NXT and facing Ciampa at some point, probably Mania weekend at Takeover.

    - Ricochet also made his in-ring debut at the tapings using that name. He received the loudest reaction of the entire television tapings. He won with the 630 Senton. If you haven’t seen him do the move, go hit the You Tube. Amazing.

    - Does anyone know the hold up on Donovan Dijack debuting? He should already be on NXT TV. Are they reprogramming him? And where is Lio Rush? Is he being kept home until his contract is up or will he come back eventually? Is he even training in the Performance Center?

    - A rematch of the NXT Women’s title match at Takeover: Philadelphia has been signed for Takeover: New Orleans with Ember Moon defending against Shayna Baszler. The main event of the show will be Andrade “Cien” Almas defending the NXT title against Aleister Black.

    - Originally penciled in to get the title shot at Takeover: New Orleans was Lars Sullivan. The switch was made to Aleister Black because Sullivan has been having knee issues stemming from reconstructive surgery a few years back as well as issues with his pituitary gland because he had surgery on it several years back as he suffered from acromegaly which is what Andre the Giant, Big Show, Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, Great Khali and others have suffered from. He isn’t expected to miss a considerable amount of time but they wouldn’t have had him for the latest TV tapings thus they couldn’t build to the PPV angle without him.

    - In a “What the F*ck” story of the week, Shelton Benjamin tweeted to Budget Rental Car service the following message: “Thank you @Budget (LIT) for your great service of putting my reputation, freedom and quite possibly my life in jeopardy I’ve unknowingly been driving your car around the last 4 days with a F’N LOADED GUN in the Glove compartment!!” That is insane and Budget needs to find out who had the car before Benjamin and alert the authorities.

    - For those wondering where the hell Big Show has been and why he hasn’t been used much as of late, especially with the Royal Rumble having come and gone, he revealed that he has been battling a surgical infection due to his hip surgery last year and if it did not heal or had gotten worse, he would have needed a full hip replacement surgery which would have effectively ended his in ring career. He noted that he still cannot return for about 6 – 8 months as it has to be monitored by doctors until they clear him to return to action.

    - The Miz has signed a new 4-year contract with WWE. Major props to him because as I have noted in the past that he has become one of the most well rounded workers in the company. There aren’t many examples of people like him who have worked so hard and been so successful. It is like night and day if you compare his WWE debut character to now. He gets “it”.

    - Speaking of Miz, he will be headlining the WWE Live Event on March 9th against…BROCK LESNAR. That will be all sorts of awesome to see.

    - WWE plans on running a Latin American tournament this summer in August featuring wrestlers from several Latin American countries like Chile, Argentina, Mexico, etc. It will be the same format as the Cruiserweight Classic and Mae Young Classic. No word on the start date but the tournament, whether live or on delay will air on the WWE Network.

    - Rey Mysterio confirmed last weekend while in the U.K. that he is in fact currently negotiating a return to WWE and right now everything is up in the air. His Rumble appearance was always scheduled to be a “one off” but both sides are open to doing more and are in talks to find something beneficial to both sides.

    - WWE Hall of Famer Booker T revealed on his weekly podcast that Cory Graves is the reason Booker was removed from the commentary team on RAW and noted that he has an incredible dislike for Graves and that he plans on “doing something” if he catches Graves in the street. He doesn’t plan on doing anything at an arena or airport of any other WWE show but if there is a random time that they cross paths, there is going to be trouble.

    - Graves, not to be outdone, posted a tweet from Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War” reading: “Thus the expert in battle moves the enemy and is not moved by him.” and then signed is noting that “Yes, this is what you think it is.” He then on commentary on Raw on Monday he warned Coach to be careful of he may “find himself stuck doing local radio” which was another blatant shot at Booker.

    - I now believe that everything has been resolved as Booker invited Graves on his radio show to clear the air and Graves has accepted. The show airs live in Houston tomorrow and is taped for his weekly podcast. No chance WWE allows this to happen if the air isn’t cleared already.

    - Bubba Ray Dudley’s wish list for his hall of fame induction are Paul Heyman, The Hardy Boyz or Edge and Christian. The assumption is that Heyman is inducting Goldberg so it will likely be one of the other teams.

    - Reby Hardy revealed that Matt now officially owns the trademarks to all of the “Broken Universe”.

    - Awesome VIDEO to watch.

    - Major congrats to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Jumanji, after slipping to #3 last week on the film charts reclaimed the #1 spot this past weekend and thus became the first film to debut in December yet still be #1 in February since “Titanic” 20 years ago. The film has grossed $855 million worldwide to date.

    - Johnson has also struck a deal with NBC where his 7 Bucks Entertainment Company will produce a show called “Titan Games” which is an athletic competition

    - A VERY INTERESTING READ and it will be interesting to see if anything comes from it with the #MeToo movement and all of the harassment going on in Hollywood and corporate America.

WWE ELIMINATIONC CHAMBER is on Sunday, February 25th, 2018 from Las Vegas Nevada and the line-up is as follows:

  • MEN’S ELIMINATION CHAMBER MATCH FOR WRESTLEMANIA MAIN EVENT: Roman Reigns vs. John Cena vs. Braun Strowman vs. Miz vs. Elias vs. TBD
  • WOMEN’S ELIMINATION CHAMBER MATCH FOR RAW WOMEN’S TITLE: Alexa Bliss © vs. Sasha Banks vs. Bayley vs. Mickie James vs. Mandy Rose vs. Sonya Deville
  • Asuka vs. Nia Jax (if Jax wins, she is added to Mania RAW Women’s Title Match)
  • Ring of Honor / New Japan / Lucha Underground / Independent / International News and Notes:

    - ROH has announced that the main event for Supercard of Honor over Wrestlemania weekend in New Orleans will be Cody vs. Kenny Omega. The show takes place on April 7th at the Uno Lakefront Arena in New Orleans and per ROH’s Ian Riccaboni, the pre-sale of the show has already set the new ROH attendance record as 3,828 tickets have already been sold. That is an incredible feat. Wow.

    - The Lakefront Arena is set up to hold 5,000 for wrestling and I fully believe that the show will be a sellout. The previous ROH attendance record was last year’s “Supercard of Honor” which featured the main event of the Young Bucks vs. The Hardys in a Ladder War match.

    - With that show doing incredible numbers, I really believe that “All In” could possibly get their 10,000 paid goal especially if they build to the main event of the Young Bucks vs. Kenny Omega & Kota Ibushi. Amazing that Stardust, Generation Me and a man Bill DeMott let walk from WWE developmental because he didn’t have “It” Kenny Omega are doing what TNA couldn’t do under several different regimes in 14 years of business and that is become a U.S. alternative to WWE. If ROH draws 5,000, that will surpass any TNA attendance EVER and the last company to draw 10,000 fans in the United States was WCW. WOW.

    - CLICK HERE to watch the latest episode of “Being the Elite” as it is awesome. Major props to the Bullet Club for coming up with such a well done weekly episodic series that continues their storylines/angles following New Japan and ROH shows. Omega, Cody and the Bucks have free reign by both Gedo in New Japan and Hunter “Delirious” Johnson in ROH to book their own angles for 2018 so long as it doesn’t affect their long-term booking plans i.e. for titles, etc.

    - It is a sad thing to note however that ROH’s attendance records are all being set by New Japan and the Bullet Club rather than their own talents. You take the New Japan and Bullet Club guys off the show and headline with Dalton Castle and whatever storyline he and the ROH title are involved in and they do not set the attendance record. It is a sad thing to say but it is also 100% factual.

    - New Japan is shopping around for a game developer for a wrestling video game to be launched globally. THQ is out of business correct? Because I will still stand by the fact that “WWE No Mercy” for Nintendo 64 is the greatest video game ever created and a New Japan game by THQ would be AMAZING.

    - As expected, AXS has announced that the Long Beach show on March 25th will air LIVE at 8:00 pm ET. Awesome.

    - ROH has officially announced their “Honor Club” a.k.a. their new streaming service. The service has 3 different payment options. You can either order the basic tier of monthly payments of $9.99 per month or a flat fee of $99 a year (thus saving you $20 if you pay the yearly option) which includes the ROH tape library and select live events or the VIP fee of $119.99 per year (paid all at once). The VIP package will include all iPPV events as well first rights for live event tickets. The basic monthly package does NOT include iPPV for free but instead will offer a 50% discount on iPPV events.

    - ROH is streaming tonight’s Live Event on Fite TV. It is a test of their capabilities before they launch Honor Club. Tonight’s event will be streamed for FREE.

    - Add All Japan Pro Wrestling to the list of promotions launching a streaming service. To be perfectly honest, with New Japan World not being the big success that NJPW hoped for in the states and the limited membership they have in Japan, I cannot imagine this being a success. Outside of their tape library from the 80’s and 90’s, the current AJPW product is nothing to write home about. Sure they have some good matches here and there but nothing on the level of New Japan.

    - ICW in Glasgow has announced that Drew McIntyre will be inducted into their Hall of Fame and he has been granted permission to attend the show by WWE to accept his induction. The show takes place on Monday, February 12th.

    - NWA Champion Nick “Magnus” Aldis will be defending the NWA title vs. 20 different opponents over the next 60 days around the world. His first title defense will be this coming Sunday and these matches will be filmed for a documentary. One of his opponents will be Tommy Dreamer on one of Dreamer’s “House of Hardcore” shows on March 24th at the former ECW Arena. Aldis is now being managed by Austin Idol. Yes, THAT Austin Idol from the 70’s and 80’s wrestling scene.

    - How a “major” wrestling promotion allows this is insane to me but the CMLL Tag Team titles held by Shocker and Negro Casas have been finally vacated as they have not defended said titles since October….OF 2016. WTF?

    - Finally, after months of recovery, Carlos Colon’s WWC in Puerto Rico announced plans to return with a tour soon. No specific dates were given but the first show could be as soon as March.

    - Sonjay Dutt is the new head writer for the shows. All angles and storylines still need to go through Don Callis and Scott D’Amore for approval.

    - Dutt and Josh Matthews are expected to be the new announce team moving forward. They did the voiceover work earlier this week for yesterday’s episode as the episode was already in the can with Jeremy Borash on commentary as he had completed the work for the episode before he left the promotion.

    - It is expected that at some point, Don Callis will join commentary as color commentator at some point. Callis had previously noted that he was not going to become an on-air character but based on his New Japan commentary work figured it would give the new team more credibility.

    MMA News and Notes:

    - DOWN GOES HOLLOWAY!!!! The UFC 222 main event is now off as UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway has suffered an undisclosed knee injury which will keep him from fighting. I feel bad for Frankie Edgar as he is well deserving of a title shot and instead wants to fight on the show as scheduled so he is risking his title shot as if he suffers a loss, his opponent is Brian Ortega and Ortega is DANGEROUS and could sneak in and steal the title shot. Edgar has not fought since May of 2017 at UFC 211 which is why he wanted to fight despite risking his shot.

    - Apparently Holloway’s leg injury is serious and his camp is being awfully quiet about it. He may miss a ton of time depending on the severity.

    - T.J. Dillashaw was asked if he would step in to defend his Bantamweight title against Cody Garbradnt in order to save the show but he declined noting that he was not taking a fight on 4 weeks’ notice when he hasn’t been in training camp and he doesn’t feel like Garbrandt deserves a title shot since he defeated him convincingly as well having to wait TWO YEARS to get a 2nd title shot when he lost a close decision to Dominick Cruz yet Garbrandt was KO’d.

    - Garbrandt also requested to replace Max Holloway against Frankie Edgar.

    - Referee Mario Yamasaki needs to find a new career. For the umpteenth time he has failed to stop a fight in time and sooner or later he is going to get someone killed. The latest came over the weekend as Valentina Shevchenko almost murdered Priscila Cachoeira in the 2nd round of their fight. Cachoeira was out struck by Shevchenko in the fight 230 – 3. I will write that again and this time I will spell out the words so it sticks. Cachoeira was out struck by Shevchenko in the fight TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY STRIKES TO CACHOEIRA’S THREE. Now a bit of the blame needs to call on Cachoeira’s corner because I absolutely do not comprehend why they didn’t throw in the towel at some point. But Yamasaki absolutely should have jumped in way before the fight ended (via tap out due to a choke). It was an abysmal call by a piss poor referee. UFC President Dana White noted that he would absolutely love it if Yamasaki never stepped foot in an Octagon again but sadly the athletic commissions decide who referees on cards and therefore he has no say.

    - Yamasaki’s statement on the fight: “During the second round, I signaled to ‘Pedrita’ that if she didn’t move I’d stop the fight, and every time I’d stop, I told her and she moved to try to escape from the punches. Unfortunately, I also can’t control the number of blows thrown -- again, when a fighter is trying to come back she’s game. Fighters go through times of hard effort and dedication to be there. MMA is a contact sport and no fighter likes his fight to be stopped with no chance to revert the result. In my opinion, I allowed Pedrita to be a warrior and keep fighting. I could have stopped the fight in the second crucifix or in the mount, but she moved the whole time. I also recognize that I should have stopped when she tapped the first time to the rear-naked choke. I only stopped a few seconds later. About other people’s opinions, it’s their right to say.”

    - To reiterate, Yamasaki is f*cking terrible at his job and shouldn’t be allowed to referee anymore. This is far from his first bad stoppage.

    - In the main event of that fight night, last week I noted that Eryk Anders was biting off a lot in his first major fight against Lyoto Machida in Brazil and said that despite being 10 – 0, this was going to be a challenge even though Machida was on the decline. I was right as Machida won a split decision handing Anders his first loss. I saw the fight this week (didn’t watch live) and I thought Anders won the fight. But…in Brazil, against Machida and without having a name, you got to get that finish. Don’t leave it in the hands of judges. It won’t go in your favor 9 times out of 10. Anders still has a bright future in the division. Let’s see how he rebounds off of his first loss.

    - Any chances of Cris “Cyborg” Justino vs. Amanda Nunes in July are now off as Cyborg has agreed to step in and fight the current Invitica Women’s Bantamweight Champion Yana Kunitskaya at the UFC 222 show on March 3rd. This will be the new main event now that Max Holloway is unable to defend his title against Frankie Edgar as originally scheduled.

    - Nunes is likely going to defend her Women’s UFC Bantamweight Title against Raquel Pennington next with Cyborg out of the picture.

    - Major confusion in the Welterweight Division as champion Tyrone Woodley has publicly stated that they are working to a title defense against Nate Diaz. Diaz wants the fight and has claimed the same. UFC President Dana White has said that Woodley is lying and that Diaz is full of sh*t because they have offered him plenty of fights over the last several months and he has turned them all down noting that he doesn’t want to fight. He then claims that UFC is working towards Woodley vs. Rafael dos Anjos. Woodley then countered that his lawyers and Diaz lawyers have been in contact and are negotiating and then said that who has a bigger history of being a full blown liar, him or Dana White? Check and Mate. Boom.

    - UFC will be holding their first ever PPV event from Chicago Illinois on June 9th and it is expected that CM Punk will make his return on that show. I fully expect that a Punk loss will effectively end his UFC career. Bellator will absolutely sign him in a heartbeat so do not expect it to be the end of Punk’s MMA career but UFC will probably be done. A win however will keep him around and effectively end any hope for a WWE return.

    - As of now, the tentative opponent for Punk is scheduled to be Mike Jackson. Jackson is the guy who lost to Mickey Gall in order for Gall to fight Punk in Punk’s UFC debut.

    - Demetrious Johnson revealed that he has begun negotiations for a fight against T.J. Dillashaw.

    - WME-IMG is still in negotiations with several networks for their television rights. As of now, the latest offer from Fox for them to stay is $250 million, up from the $200 million that they were offering a few weeks ago. WME-IMG when they purchased UFC was talking about getting $400 million which seems like a way too big number.

    - Early estimated indicate that Stipe Miocic vs. Francis Ngannou and Daniel Cormier vs. Volkan Oezdemir did in the ballpark of 350,000 buys which is lower than UFC expected them to do. That however comes on the heels of Cris “Cyborg” Justin vs. Holly Holm which performer far better than they had anticipated it would drawing about 390,000 PPV buys.

    - There is a ton of sites reporting that there are negotiations for Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather taking place in UFC or under Floyd’s promotional banner under MMA rules. Guys, this is NEVER happening. Floyd, at his age, is NEVER going to fight in an MMA bout and even if the small chance he decided he wanted to, no one is going to pay him the amount he expects to fight. Floyd doesn’t train for less than a $100,000,000 pay day and there is zero percent chance that Conor agrees to fight Floyd under MMA rules if he is going to get paid less than Floyd. On top of that, the business the fight would do does NOT justify the pay days. No chance this fight does more PPV buys than their boxing fight did. Plus, most casual fans know that Conor would MURDER Floyd quickly and there is no way under MMA rules that Conor can make it seem like Floyd is competitive the same way Floyd did Conor in boxing. It just isn’t possible to make this a success.

    - Bellator is looking to sign former UFC fighter Jon Fitch. Fitch left UFC to join World Series of Fighting in 2013 (now known as Professional Fighters League). He is unable to go back to UFC due to him being a part of an anti-trust lawsuit against the promotion.

    - Bellator returns next weekend with the next fight in their Heavyweight Grand Prix as Matt Mitrione vs. Roy Nelson headlines at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut.

    - Kazushi Sakuraba and Josh Barnett have started their own MMA promotion titled Quintet and will have a show on April 11th in Sumo Hall in Tokyo Japan.

    - I’d just like to state that Sony has released the teaser for “Venom” and I will NOT be posting it below because after watching it, I think I may hate Sony and quite possibly never post any of their news or trailers ever again. Jesus H. Christ it is mind blowing to me why in the world did they not surrender all things “Spidey” to Marvel and just sit back and collect big fact checks for the magic Marvel doles out? Instead they make dreck and expect it to fly. Unf*cking believable.

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week PART 4: Quincy Jones, senile or just brutally honest? Or both? This is a crazy interview where he goes on a bunch of subjects that make him sound like a lunatic. But he could be telling the truth. GREAT READ.

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week PART 5: Just when you think the Harvey Weinstein scandal couldn’t get any worse, boom. It gets worse. It is a sad part of this story but on the flip side, while she certainly didn’t deserve it, she didn’t do anything to prevent it.

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week PART 6: I still cannot believe that NOTHING from this flight has been found.

    - Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed earlier this week that he has tapped Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B Weiss to pen a a trilogy of films exploring the Star Wars universe outside of the current Star Wars Universe (meaning separate from the current set of characters we know). This is coming as a different trilogy that director Rian Johnson who penned The Last Jedi has been tasked with creating also separate from the core Star Wars Universe. Iger also revealed that he has multiple television shows tapped for the upcoming Disney streaming service. The Star Wars Universe is about to get HUGE. One would think that the Game of Thrones guys would be suited to do a film series based on the “Knights of the Old Republic” which would be the original Jedi.

    - Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is so f*cking awesome. I feel like a broken record every year but I really hope this show does not get cancelled. The creative team has been excellent and such a well fleshed out storyline. It is also great that the supporting characters get killed off each season. Most shows wouldn’t cross that line considering they feel like it is taboo to off a well-liked character.

    - A big f*ck you to NBC’s “This is Us” for developing such an awesome cast. Jack Pearson’s death on Sunday following the Super Bowl was a major gut punch even though we knew it was coming. Also, major props to Mandy Moore for somehow becoming an incredible actress. She knocked it out of the park in her scenes. Milo Ventimiglia also developed the best father figure in the history of television. I cannot think of ANY father in TV history who is better than him. I am talking about spanning decades, networks and even genres. Jack Pearson is the best dad ever.

    - So the CW shows continue to falter in my eyes. I am really bothered by all of the additional characters that all of these shows have added. There is honestly no reason for each and every episode to feature multiple heroes, most of which are inept except the main characters i.e. Green Arrow and The Flash. It would be best if they kept it simple and to a bare minimum. You want Elongated Man and Vibe and Killer Frost “suiting up” for Team Flash or Black Canary, Wild Dog and Mr. Terrific lending Oliver a hand from time to time over on Arrow? I am all for it. But to feature them in each and every episode seems like overkill to me. The shows are so much better when you have Barry or Oliver out on the field doing their thing while someone talks to them over an ear piece. I will extend the courtesy to have John Diggle teaming with The Green Arrow because he was an original cast member and neither have super powers. But that is it. No need for all of the rest of the baggage. It just convolutes things.

    - Director David Leitch, director of John Wick: Chapter 2 and Deadpool 2 has been tapped to direct the Fast and Furious spinoff film starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham for Universal. Johnson and Statham will be reprising their roles from the Fast franchise of Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw.
