T.G.I.F. with Matt Dawgs: #393

Good day to you all and welcome to We Want Insanity. I am your host for today, Matt Dawgs and this is my column. Today is the end of the work week and the time to look back at all the goings-on over the past seven days as I wrap it up with a bow and spout it out bit by bit. Buckle up. Enjoy the ride.

MATT NOTE: Thoughts and prayers go out to WWI’s very own Wendy Barlow a.k.a. Fifi The Maid. Wendy, fiancée of WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair was involved in a serious auto accident earlier this week and was hospitalized. She is now ok and out of the woods but it is still a scary situation.

- WWE reached a conclusive agreement with Mauro Ranallo on his departure from the company. Financial terms were not disclosed and a non-disclosure agreement was signed. Ranallo released a statement to the press noting that “WWE and I have mutually agreed to part ways. It has nothing to do with JBL. So that put an end to that chapter. He is unable to work for any wrestling promotion until his contract with WWE ends on August 12th. He can continue to work for any MMA, boxing or other sport for the time being. JBL also released a statement on the issue noting: “Admittedly, I took part in locker room pranks that existed within the industry years ago. WWE addressed my behavior and I responded accordingly, yet my past is being brought up because of recent unfounded rumors. I apologize if anything I said playing `the bad guy' on a TV show was misconstrued.

- Roman Reigns was backstage at RAW on Monday but was not used. He did film an interview which aired on the WWE website discussing his “injuries” at the hands of Braun Strowman as well as the passing of his brother.

- The first dumpster match in the history of RAW and the first dumpster match in WWE in 17 years. It wasn’t good. But I was ok with the finish since Braun immediately got his heat back and he legit MURDERED Kalisto. It would have been the perfect set up however for Roman Reigns to return and make the save. No idea why they didn’t go with it.

- The dumpster spot of the ramp wasn’t as good as the one where the New Age Outlaws did it to Cactus Jack and Terry Funk but Funk was injured in that dumpster so that is why it was done off a smaller ramp.

- Dana Brooke vs. Alicia Fox. Someone, in 2017, thought that this would be a good idea to book these two in a match?

- Samoa Joe as a heel badass on WWE TV just feels so right.

- If they are going to constantly write out Enzo of matches due to “getting injured” then stop letting him wrestle and just let him be a mouthpiece for Big Cass.

- I NEED a Finn Balor heel turn. The crowd just isn’t feeling him like they did before he won the Universal Title. He “lost” something. He isn’t getting the same reactions he got before he was injured.

- I am ok with Seth Rollins doing his version of the “Rainmaker”. It is much better than the pedigree and he can do it on anyone. But he is going to need to beat a lot of people cleanly with it in order for it to catch on.

- I will be pissed if they build to a spot where Bayley kissed a guy and it is the first time ever. She isn’t 12. I don’t think WWE’s writing team gets her or her gimmick. They have botched her since day one.

- I hope I wasn’t the only one who noticed that after Chris Jericho removed Dean Ambrose from the list, Ambrose left the room and Jericho put him back on it. LOL. I am going to miss Jericho and am flabbergasted that he managed to get over a scarf, a list, a pen click and “It” over during this run. The man is a genius.

- Did WWE just drop the Wyatt vs. Balor feud in favor of Wyatt vs. Ambrose? It seems like that is where they are transitioning to. Out of nowhere.

- I am not pleased where they are going with Shinsuke Nakamura so far. Ugh.

- So much for that renewed push in the Colons huh?

- I admittedly do not watch 205 Live because I can’t fit anymore wrestling into my schedule. Sure if I hear a match was excellent, I will go check it out but I cannot watch the whole show. That being said, are they doing anything noteworthy with Gran Metallik? He is legit one of the best cruiserweights they have. Push him.

- Expect an angle either at the PPV or at RAW on Monday to write Chris Jericho out. I fully expect him to take a beating at the hands of Braun Strowman as he is going to miss the next several months while touring with Fozzy.

- What the hell is a House of Horrors match?!?!?!? We are a few days away from it and still no explanation. It’s like WWE doesn’t even care anymore. They just figure that fans will watch regardless so no reason to explain anything.

- Maybe it is just me but the Bollywood Boys sounds significantly better than “The Singh Brothers”. Just saying. They also changed their first names. Gurv is now Sunil and Harv is now Samir.

- While I do not expect him to defeat Randy Orton for the WWE Title, the push of Jinder Mahal is not a one off thing. There is a concerted effort to push him as well as the Singh Brothers going forward in an effort to gain more traction in India. WWE has hired former Walt Disney Corportation employee Sheetesh Srivastava as the Executive Vice President and General Manager of WWE India so they are making a move to gain traction in the market. WWE has more social media followed in India than anywhere else in the world including the United States.

- I am ok with Mahal stealing the title. That has always been a solid, heat getting angle.

- You know you are low on quality tag teams when Breezango randomly get thrown into the tag team title mix out of nowhere after having not been on TV in forever.

- WWE really put Smackdown in a bad place and didn’t think this “Superstar Shakeup” through. When you take perennial jobbers like Jinder Mahal and Tyler Breeze and Fandango and give them title matches on a PPV out the blue, no one cares or buys into it. The ratings actually prove that as Smackdown this week drew their lowest rating of 2017 this past week.

- At least they are trying to fix this situation with Rusev and his return. For those who missed Smackdown, Rusev did a pre-taped promo noting that he will NOT be returning from his injury unless he gets a title shot at the Money In The Bank PPV in June. Amazingly enough, and I am too lazy to research if this is true but apparently Rusev despite being an upper card guy his entire career, has NEVER received a 1x1 title shot at the WWE or Universal title.

- Baron Corbin was suspended for “one-week” for his attack on Sami Zayn and shoving officials. So essentially he is eligible to come back on Smackdown next week. WTF? Who’s idea was this? And it is made even better that Smackdown has THIS WEEKEND OFF!!!! There are no Smackdown live events scheduled. SMH. Terrible booking idea.

- The reason both the RAW and Smackdown rosters have this weekend off is because they are both flying to Europe next week following Raw and Smackdown for a European tour.

- I am ok with a Charlotte babyface turn so long as she isn’t kissing babies and stuff. They need to keep her with an edge and her swagger of being the best.

- WWE has announced that their July 9th PPV which was rumored to be titled “Badd Blood” will be titled “Great Balls of Fire” and that Brock Lesnar will be defending the WWE Universal Title against an unnamed opponent.

- Former WWE star Yoshihiro Tajiri will NOT be returning to the promotion. He was signed back for the Cruiserweight Classic last summer and then brought for 205 Live following that however suffered a knee injury that shelved him for several months. He is medically cleared to return and has been doing some training with students at the Performance Center however WWE noted that they do not plan on using him any further. Tajiri noted that he has no regrets about his comeback, thanked the WWE and will be returning to Japan to wrestle full time. He is willing to come back if they need him in the future.

- Despite having his jaw wired shut last week, Dash Wilder was back in the gym training shoulders.

- John Cena celebrated his 40th birthday last week.

- Kane turned 50 this week.

- NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal spilled the beans on not wrestling at Wrestlemania 33 this year on his podcast. He noted that WWE informed him that it was going to be him and Big Show 1 on 1 when the deal was announced. Then he was later informed that they were going to turn it into a 6-man. It would pit Shaq and 2 WWE partners vs. Show and 2 WWE partners. He wasn’t ok with that but he agreed. Then they cancelled it altogether. Once that happened, he made other arrangements Wrestlemania weekend. They contacted him after that trying to make him vs. Show happen again but he was no longer interested and told them he wasn’t going to do it. Shaq also made it clear that he had no issue with losing to Show so he wanted to state that before someone from WWE comes along and says that was the reason he pulled out. He has no issues with Big Show, it was all WWE.

- Former WWE announcer Sean Mooney filmed some footage for an upcoming WWE DVD on unseen WWE matches. He and Charly Caruso will co-host the project.

- NXT Star Roderick Strong and his girlfriend, former UFC star Marian Shafir welcomed their first child into the world on Tuesday, a son named Troy Veniamin Lindsey. Congrats to the happy couple.

- Former WWE star CM Punk has been announced as a cast member for MTV’s “The Challenge: Champs vs. Pros” which debuts on May 16th. The show features 10 Athletes against 10 former winners of the Challenge with the winner getting a $50,000 prize to go to a charity of their choosing. In an interesting note, former NFL star Shawne Merriman is also on the cast. Merriman and Punk had a brief Twitter feud some years back when Punk commented on Merriman striking out when hitting on then WWE Divas at a hotel pool.

- Sony’s Tristar Pictures is currently close to putting “Pandemonium” into production. “Pandemonium” is a biopic on the life of Vince McMahon. Executive Producer Andrew Lazar (Best known for producing American Sniper, the biopic on Chris Kyle) acquired the life rights from Vince McMahon to produce the film. Currently Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (The producers and directors for the hit NBC show “This Is Us”) are currently in talks to direct. The film will cover all of McMahon’s life from his childhood to today.

- In what is pretty crazy to hear, Eric Bischoff revealed to Lillian Garcia on her podcast that he is not financially independent. He isn’t on the brink of being homeless or anything like that but he still needs to work in order to take care of his family the way he’d like to and live comfortably.

- WWE is running a tryout camp in Dubai this weekend. This is part of the effort to expand into that region of the world. They are also getting first crack at the top prospects at The Great Khali’s wrestling school.

- According to Renee Young, she and Dean Ambrose were married on April 15th and it was completely spur of the moment. They had not been formally engaged yet but had discussed marriage and their futures. They even got a marriage license 6 months ago. One day before going to bed, Dean pulled out a ring and said “Let’s get married”. Right then and there Renee found a 24 hour pastor on Yelp who lived a few blocks away, called him, called a friend to be a witness and got married in their backyard at 1:00 AM.

- Ok. Wish me luck. My plan for the next couple of months is to go back on the Network and watch ECW chronologically from the first show they have to the final ECW show. I lived through the era and was actually a frequent visitor to the ECW arena as well as the Elks Lodge in Queens NY. I saw a ton of significant amount of the major milestones that are pushed as “ECW moments” live and while they are and forever will be memorable, the actual action/wrestling doesn’t hold up and I honestly feel like Ring of Honor is more significant/important to wrestling than ECW ever was. Sure they helped cause WWE and WCW to change their philosophy when it comes to ideas and booking concepts but ROH has created more stars and bigger names than ECW did. Yes a lot of the best workers in the world came from ECW but when they went to WCW and WWE they lingered in the lower to mid-card for years before they made any significant impact on those respective rosters. Eddie Guerrero was in WCW from 1996 through 2000 and then WWE from 2000 through 2004 before he became a “main eventer. You can say the same with Chris Benoit. So essentially despite coming from ECW to WCW and then WWE, it took 9 years for them to become main event players. Compare that to CM Punk who came to the main WWE roster in 2006 and was world champion by 2008 or Daniel Bryan who debuted on the main roster in 2010 and was champion by 2011. Let’s not even discuss Kevin Owens or A.J. Styles (although more of a TNA product, he would have absolutely thrived in WWE like Punk and Bryan had he joined them) as they made IMMEDIATE impacts upon their WWE roster debuts. Sorry for the long winded rant but going back to my point, I am going to revisit ECW and see how good/ bad it was.

WWE PAYBACK PPV is on Sunday, April 30th, 2017 from San Jose California and the line-up is as follows:

  • Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman
  • WWE TITLE: Randy Orton © vs. Bray Wyatt in a HOUSE OF HORRORS MATCH
  • WWE WOMEN’S RAW TITLE: Bayley © vs. Alexa Bliss
  • WWE U.S. TITLE: Kevin Owens © vs. Chris Jericho
  • Seth Rollins vs. Samoa Joe
  • WWE TAG TEAM TITLES: The Hardy Boyz © (Matt & Jeff Hardy) vs. Sheamus & Cesaro
  • WWE CRUISERWEIGHT TITLE: Neville © vs. Austin Aries
  • Miz TV hosted by The Miz w/Maryse with special guest Finn Balor
  • The Club (Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson)
  • vs. Enzo Amore & Big Cass

    - Global Force Wrestling is apparently no more as the titles are being merged with Impact’s titles. LAX captured the GFW Tag Team Titles and at Slammiversary, Bobby Lashley will fight in a title for title match against Alberto El Patron who captured the GFW title at the last set of tapings.

    - More returns over the Impact Tapings. Matt Sydal formerly known as Evan Bourne in WWE made his Impact return and “Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner is also back but as a one-time thing as he will team with Josh Matthews to take on Jeremy Borash and Joseph Park (Also making a return) at Slammiversary.

    - The Slammiversary PPV on July 2nd will be the 15th Anniversary of Impact. By comparison, when Turner Broadcasting bought the NWA and turned it into WCW, WCW was in business for only 13 years. Despite what you may feel about TNA/Impact, that is still a tremendous accomplishment in the wrestling business.

    - New X-division champion Low-Ki in his “Agent 47 from the Hitman Video Game” will be the official hitman for LAX as he has aligned himself with the group and they are calling themselves “The Cartel” on social media.

    - With the latest set of Impact Tapings, they are taped through the entire month of May meaning they will return for tapings on May 30th and 31st in India.

    - Crazy Steve is gone from Impact and is taking independent bookings. This is why Abyss is no more and Joseph Park is back in the fold. Steve is said to be NXT bound after working the indies for a while during his WWE physical process.

    - Impact star Bram, who is on loan to Pro Wrestling Noah in Japan was suspended by Noah for disrespecting a convenience store in Japan while on tour. Yes, you read that correctly. He posted a photo on his Instagram account of him laying down on top of an ice cream freezer in a convenience store.

    - Crimson is back wrestling under the name “Mayweather”. His given name is Anthony Mayweather and he is teaming with Wilcox under the team name “The Veterans of War”.

    - Just as an FYI...they are doing an angle with Josh Matthews returning to commentary. He coerced Jeremy Borash into hitting him and then Impact management suspended Borash because Matthews complained that he was “being bullied by a fellow announcer”. I mean, I want to give Impact a chance under the new leadership but to blatantly take a shot at Mauro Ranallo? Come on.

    - Eddie Edwards was temporarily written out at the last tapings as he had to undergo knee surgery. He should be back by the next set of tapings in May in India.

    - Andrew Everett suffered an apparent concussion at the latest set of Impact tapings and will be out of action for a bit.

    - A lot of people have asked me how come I didn’t go into deep details about the ITV World of Sport tapings that are taking place in the U.K. The answer is a few different reasons. First of all, the U.K. scene is so busy and active right now that I cannot keep up with it. I already struggle to keep abreast of the major Japan news as it is. Secondly, I cannot put much faith and value in something that isn’t going to air in the United States. Yes I know it was supposed to be a major deal for the U.K. and I did confirm the announcement without going into explicit detail. I thought that was enough. Lastly, despite Impact being involved and helping launch it, the show has since been postponed. The tapings were scheduled to take place May 25th and 26th. They have since been postponed with no new dates given. This will certainly delay their scheduled July debut and the talk is that it may be delayed until the fall at the earliest. NEVER A GOOD SIGN.

Ring of Honor / Lucha Underground / Independent / International News and Notes:

    - R.I.P. to an old friend of mine John Santiago a.k.a. Overdose who used to wrestle independently in the New York/New Jersey area. He was one of my first opponents and we had a lengthy feud many years ago. He was a very good man and person who had some health issues over the more recent years. He passed away in his sleep earlier this week and left behind a wife and kids. So sad. He and I haven’t seen each other in a long while but kept in contact occasionally via Facebook. Despite the issues he was going through physically and having “bad days” because of it, he still was as good hearted as I remember him. Goodbye old friend.

    - Sinclair Broadcasting has officially purchased Tribune Media and it was approved by the FCC which means Sinclair will add an additional 40 stations nationwide including in New York and Chicago which are major ROH markets and can have ROH on their local stations if so.

    - The main event for the May 12th ROH “War of the Worlds” PPV will be “The Almighty” Christopher Daniels defending the ROH title in a three way vs. Cody and the winner of Jay Lethal vs, Hangman Page vs. Jay White vs. Silas Young. Also Marty Scurll will defend the ROH TV title against Matt Sydal.

    - Major props to The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega as they have signed a deal with “Hot Topic” to have their shirts sold nationwide in stores.

    - Kenny Omega is only working the Toronto leg of the “War of the Worlds” tour as he is still having visa issues that are preventing him from working in the United States. New Japan Pro Wrestling needs to help remedy this ASAP before their July California shows. He is missing the May 10th show in Dearborn Michigan and the May 14th show in Philadelphia.

    - Cody has allegedly made his decision and has signed a contract with Ring of Honor despite his denials of this. Honestly, I am surprised by this move as I certainly thought he would sign with Impact given the new leadership there and his wife Brandi working there. But I am glad it is this as he can continue to hone his craft with ROH talents as well as New Japan. He did NOT appear backstage at the recent set of Impact tapings so that may have been a sign. He also noted in an interview with Sports Illustrated that he does plan on getting back the Rhodes name at some point.

    - There was some interesting backstage maneuvering last weekend at Tommy Dreamer’s “House of Hardcore” shows. Matt Hardy was advertised for Friday’s show and Matt and Jeff for Saturday’s show. Apparently at the last minute, Matt was not allowed the work the Friday show and only made an appearance and cut a promo. On Saturday, he and Jeff were set to work Tommy Dreamer and Bully Ray. WWE wouldn’t allow them to work that match either. Dreamer found a suitable replacement in the Young Bucks after working out a deal with Ring of Honor allowing them. However Nick Jackson was sick and couldn’t work. After some discussions, WWE ended up allowing the Hardys to work the show so long as they kept it simple and didn’t do anything that would be too physical. Dreamer noted that he owes both Joe Koff of ROH as well as Vince McMahon and Triple H of WWE for helping him in this situation.

    - Vader has quite the scare in Japan last weekend as he wrestled on a Tatsumi Fujinami Anniversary show and passed out following his match. He had to be helped to his feet and walked out on his own. He noted he was dehydrated and had landed on his head earlier in the match. He was checked out and everything was fine and he wrestled 2 days later. He said in an interview with the Japanese media earlier in the week that he did in fact have congenial heart failure and that he plans on living the rest of his life on his own terms. That was partly the reason he came to Japan as it was likely going to be his last tour of Japan. He worked in six man matches on both shows.

    - Jack Swagger is apparently asking for $4,000 per indie show. LOL. He does have dates booked in Mexico and is working for Tommy Dreamer’s “House of Hardcore” promotion when they tour Australia in June but odds are that Dreamer is NOT paying $4,000.

    - Despite not “officially” retiring, Damien Sandon/Aron Rex says he is unlikely to return to wrestling. He doesn’t want to say NEVER or that he is retired but he says he is heading down a different path right now career wise which is away from wrestling.

    MMA News and Notes:

    - Congratulations to Maurice Smith as he has been announced for the Pioneer Wing of the 2017 UFC Hall of Fame in July. He will be joining Urijah Faber this year.

    - Looks like we are NOT going to get Michael Bisping defending the UFC Middleweight title against George St. Pierre on the July 8th show. GSP does not want to fight in July and Bisping was only taking the fight because it was GSP. He noted that the plan now is for them to fight in October as Bisping was going to go into the GSP fight with a knee injury that he would much rather rest. October is going to be tough for UFC because even though it is a big PPV, it will be one month removed from the apparent Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor fight. Floyd has traditionally cost UFC and WWE buys when he fights a month before a rival PPV.

    - Apparently UFC Welterweight Champion Tyrone Woodley has an opponent for one of the July 8th PPV but cannot disclose it yet. His fight would become the co-main event with Cody Garbrandt vs. T.J. Dillashaw headlining.

    - For UFC star Ronda Rousey announced that she and boyfriend/UFC star Travis Browne are engaged to be married. No wedding date has been set but they were engaged while on vacation in New Zealand.

    - Conor McGregor was named to Time Magazine’s annual list of the 100 Most Influential People in the World. WOW.

    - Speaking of Conor, his training partner and UFC fighter Gunnar Nelson noted that if Conor can beat Floyd Mayweather in their fight, he highly doubts that Conor will ever return to UFC. I 100% believe it and even if he loses, he may not come back either. Honestly, he is going to make $75 million to fight Floyd. Do you think he is willing to come back and fight for UFC at $3 million? Or even $10 million? That is a significant pay cut.

    - Al Iaquinta, following his win last week against Diego Sanchez at the UFC Fight Night show went on a TIRADE about UFC and that has continued throughout the week as he has ranted about Reebok, Sage Northcut, UFC and more. Essentially he is either eying a raise or to be released. He is upset over his pay because he hasn’t fought in two years and is upset that he had to get an outside job as a realtor during that time.

    - Diego Sanchez needs to be done. He has always been exciting to watch despite his record and he always comes to fight. But enough is enough. He has been rocked too many times.

    - If you haven’t seen Jake Ellenberger get knocked out by Mike Perry last week, google it. Ouch.

    - UFC President Dana White noted recently that they had 2 offers for the company that were better than WME-IMG’s including one worth $5 billion but ultimately they decided on WME-IMG’s due to their vision for the company.

    - UFC Middleweight Chris Weidman is lobbying for a rematch against Gegard Mousasi following his controversial loss at UFC 210. Honestly, while he was definitely knocked out, I think he should get a rematch since there was such confusion at the end.

    - Amanda Nunes, who has virtually disappeared from the face of the earth since defeating Ronda Rousey for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight title tweeted that she is defending her title soon.

    - UFC star CM Punk has been announced as a cast member for MTV’s “The Challenge: Champs vs. Pros” which debuts on May 16th. The show features 10 Athletes against 10 former winners of the Challenge with the winner getting a $50,000 prize to go to a charity of their choosing.

    - Former UFC Female competitor Valerie Letourneau has signed with Bellator.

    - Mohammed “King Mo” Lawal is OFF of the Bellator debut at Madison Square Garden in NY. He suffered an injury during training. He will be replaced by Ryan Bader. Bader will challenge Phil Davis for the Bellator Light Heavyweight title on June 24th. The fight will main event the Spike TV portion of the PPV.

    - Congrats to former MMA star and 4 Horsewomen Marina Shafir on the birth of her first child with current NXT star Roderick Strong. She had a boy named Troy Veniamin Lindsey.

    - UFC Star Frank Mir noted that he does not plan on fighting his 2-year USADA suspension and likely will not return to UFC once that is done. He is looking at fighting in Japan in the interim.

    - UFC announced that they are doing their first ever show in Edmonton Canada in September. It will be the UFC 214 PPV. Assumption is that UFC will look at this to be George St. Pierre’s return.

    - UFC Fight Pass has dropped Combate Americas from their line-up.

UFC 211 is on Saturday, May 13th, 2017 from Dallas Texas and the line-up is as follows:

  • UFC HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE: Stipe Miocic © vs. Junior Dos Santos
  • UFC WOMEN’S STRAWWEIGHT TITLE: Joanna Jedrzejczyk © vs. Jessica Andrade
  • Eddie Alvarez vs. Dustin Poirier
  • Frankie Edgar vs. Yair Rodriquez
  • Ben Rothwell vs. Fabricio Werdum
  • Henry Cejudo vs. Sergio Pettis
  • Demian Maia vs. Jorge Masvidal
  • UFC 212 is on Saturday, June 3rd, 2017 from Rio De Janeiro Brazil and the line-up is as follows:

  • UNDISPUTED UFC FEATHERWEIGHT TITLE: Jose Aldo © vs. Max Holloway ©
  • Anderson Silva vs. TBD
  • Karolina Kowalkiewicz vs. Claudia Gadelha
  • UFC 213 is on Saturday, July 8th, 2017 from Las Vegas Nevada and the line-up is as follows:

  • UFC WELTERWEIGHT TITLE: Cody Garbrandt © vs. T.J. Dillashaw
  • Robbie Lawler vs. Donald Cerrone

    - Season 4 of Power on Starz premieres on June 25th. If you haven’t watched and you have Verizon Fios, there is a “free preview” weekend of Starz starting today which includes their “On Demand” service so you can catch up.

    - Based on the success of the “Fate of the Furious” and due to the conflict between alpha males Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Universal Pictures is discussing a spinoff starring Johnson and Jason Statham as unlikely allies on their own mission. Diesel did confirm that he and Rock had “issues” during filming but that is water under the bridge now and they have apparently resolved said issues and The Rock is expected back for Furious 9 as well. It is interesting to note that Johnson did not do any press junkets with the rest of the Furious cast other than the U.S. premiere and he also shares NO screen time with Diesel during the film.

    - BTW, Fate of the Furious is expected to pass a BILLION DOLLARS this weekend making it the fasted film to that amount.

    - NBC’s “Powerless” has been cancelled and the remaining filmed episodes of the show have been pulled. I have not seen one single episode of this show but boy did it look like it sucked.

    - Apparently following “Avengers: Infinity War”, the next film in the Avenger’s series will allegedly be titled: “Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet”.

    - Kevin Feige revealed that even though it is a year in real time between “Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2” next week and “Avengers: Infinity War” next summer, the timeline of the film will be 4 YEARS in between. So a lot is going to have happened to the Guardians off screen including the fact that Baby Groot will likely have grown significantly.

    - There are strong rumblings that after the release of the 4th Avengers film, Marvel plans on shying away from “phases” and that they do not plan on calling the next wave of films “Phase 4”. Also, the tentative plan is to shy away from earth and explore more of the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

    - Disney is moving in from their Christmas Star Wars release dates as they announced that “Star Wars: Episode IX” will be released on May 24th, 2019. This is a break from The Force Awakens, Rogue One and The Last Jedi which all came out in December. They also confirmed that the latest Indiana Jones film will be released on July 10, 2020 and will feature both Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg returning.

    - Fox also announced that Deadpool 2 will be released on June 1, 2018.

    - CW’s Super Hero block returned this week with Supergirl, The Flash and Arrow all coming back. While Supergirl was just ok, Flash was excellent and Arrow has certainly found their groove again. CW has a good little thing; I hope they don’t blow it.

    - Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is the best superhero show on television today. That is an absolute following the disappointment that was Iron Fist on Netflix. I hope and pray that Shield gets a 5th season and doesn’t get cancelled because this season really stepped up in a lot of ways and the 3 arc season has been a major blessing.

    - The Jurassic World sequel (which I still haven’t seen Jurassic World yet) will have Jeff Goldblum returning as Dr. Ian Malcom from the original films. Awesome.

    - M. Night Shyamalan confirmed on Wednesday via Twitter that he has completed the 1st draft for the sequel to “Unbreakable”. The film will be titled. “Glass” as in Mr. Glass and will feature the return of both Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson and bring in....SPOILER ALERT......DO NOT READ FUTHER IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE SPOILED ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN HIS LAST FILM.......YOU”VE BEEN WARNED......James McAvoy and Anyan Taylor Joy reprising their roles from “Split” which was a spin-off of “Unbreakable”.

    - Director David Fincher (Fight Club) has signed on to direct World War Z 2 with Brad Pitt returning. WWZ2 reunited Fincher and Pitt for the 4th time as he has directed Pitt in Fight Club, Seven and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

    - In a major Marvel Cinematic Universe spoiler, Kevin Feige revealed while doing press for Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2 that Stan Lee has been playing the same character in EACH MARVEL FILM and that character is in fact, Stan Lee. He is one of "The Watchers".
