T.G.I.F. with Matt Dawgs: #446

Good day to you all and welcome to We Want Insanity. I am your host for today, Matt Dawgs and this is my column. Today is the end of the work week and the time to look back at all the goings-on over the past seven days as I wrap it up with a bow and spout it out bit by bit. Buckle up. Enjoy the ride.

IMPORTANT MATT NOTE:: I am hoping that you readers have taken the time to lend a hand and donated to the JAIDAN STRONG cause for me. I’d really appreciate it if you did; as little as $5 can go a long way. If not, it isn’t a big deal but please at least SHARE THE LINK. I get that finances can be tough for some but taking the time to share a link via your social media doesn’t cost a dime. I’d appreciate it greatly as one of your friends or family members may be able to help out. Thanks.

MATT NOTEY NOTE: James Guttman is the Dad of Hi Blog! I'm Dad.

WWE NEWS AND NOTES:

- On the heels of WME-IMG and Ari Emmanuel closing a deal for NBCU to retain the TV rights for Monday Night RAW on the USA Network at close to TRIPLE the $160 million per year of their current deal, the latest news is that FOX has agreed to terms to air Smackdown for a “massive amount” to air on Friday Nights on FOX, not FS1 or FX or any other Fox subsidiary; prime time on a major broadcast network. Amazing. I was expecting them to get about $100 million a year. The Hollywood Reporter is claiming that the deal is for $205 million a year. So RAW at or around $400 million a year and Smackdown at $205 million a year = $605 million per year. WOOOOOOWWWWW!!!!! WWE went from $160 million a year for BOTH shows on USA to about $605 million for both shows on USA and FOX. That is an incredible number for WWE and essentially ALL PROFIT since their production costs aren’t going to change drastically.

- With the news of the deal, WWE stock exploded to $57.25 per share which puts the company worth well above $4 billion. WWE is on an incredible financial run.

- The $205 million per year that WWE is getting for Smackdown was originally earmarked by FOX for UFC. Once FOX pulled their UFC offer off the table, they used that money and sealed a deal with WWE.

- The reason for the RAW deal being so much higher than Smackdown is that USA Network had the right to match any offer made to WWE and they did as FOX had offered up to $270 million for it. USA did not want to lose RAW to upper that $270 million knowing FOX wasn’t going to top it. That is also the reason why USA passed on Smackdown because they weren’t going to overspend and felt RAW had more value to their network since it is the flagship of the station.

- The interesting note for WWE is that with Smackdown moving to Friday’s starting in October of 2019, is how that would affect the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony during Wrestlemania weekend. Being that WWE is whatever the host town is for the entire week, does WWE move the Hall of Fame to Thursday nights? Do they tape Smackdown that week and air it on Friday as usual and then run the Hall of Fame against it on the WWE Network? Both good questions.

- Despite the fact that it will be on a Friday moving forward, Smackdown has the potential due to being in significantly more homes, to be the most watched WWE program of the week. USA Network is in 90 million homes in the United States. Fox is in 110 of 119 million homes in the United States. That is 20 million more homes that Smackdown will be reaching.

- SURPRISE!!! John Cena and Nikki Bella are back together according to People Magazine. It is great timing too with the premiere of E!’s Total Bellas taking place this past Sunday.

- In last week’s column I noted that the Sami Zayn segment with Bobby Lashley’s sister had the potential to be the worst segment in WWE history. This week on RAW, WWE proved me to be 100% CORRECT!!! YAY ME!!! I was right!!!! WHHHOOOOOOO~!~!~! That segment was mother*cking god awful. I am not even going to recap how bad it was nor will I link the video of it. That is how bad it was.

- WWE is NOT doing Lashley any favors at all with how they are portraying him. The only thing I can think of, and it is way far-fetched, is that they are purposely booking him like this so that the crowd can turn on him so they can turn him into a heel monster like he was in Impact to replace Brock when Brock leaves. Otherwise, I have no clue why they are booking him like this.

- So Stephanie McMahon was in RARE form on Monday in that she cut the balls off of anyone and everyone except Roman Reigns. She emasculated Kurt Angle, Kevin Owens, Finn Balor, Nia Jax, Ronda Rousey, Alexa Bliss and practically anyone else who was in her vicinity.

- I admittedly was surprised that she used the line “I am the leader of a multimillion dollar company” on Monday instead of using the word BILLION. WWE has been worth over a billion for several months now.

- The crowd still cheers Roman Reigns when he is with Seth Rollins. So there is absolutely still money to be made whenever it is that Dean Ambrose returns. They left money on the table when he got hurt. They need to pick up where they left off.

- The “B” Team is undefeated!! Wow.

- Hey, do you remember when Vince McMahon was “just” a commentator and would do interviews with Andre the Giant and he would have Andre stand on a box to make him look even bigger? Well Stephanie does the exact opposite in that she wore stiletto heels so when Nia Jax came out for the contract signing, despite being the biggest woman on the roster, Stephanie was an inch taller than Nia. You know, because Stephanie has to be larger than life.

- Amazingly enough, Stephanie spoke during 90% of the contract signing and she ran down Rousey on how Rousey doesn’t like to lose and since it is her first singles match, Jax will beat her and Rousey will do what she always does and tuck her tail between her legs and leave WWE (OUCH by the way because despite it being scripted, Rousey HATES when that is brought up) but then she completely did a 180 and BURIED Nia Jax DEAD by saying Jax should have murdered Alexa Bliss (thus burying Alexa as well) for the title and instead it took her 20 minutes to beat her. She then said Jax should have dominated from day one but Jax is lazy and Rousey knows this. It was an incredible burial by Stephanie and made her look like she was bigger than both of them.

- Oh, and Stephanie was NOT wearing any sort of brace on her arm despite Mania being a month ago. You know McMahon recuperative powers I guess. That is absolute terrible booking because Stephanie should have milked that for months. Instead though, she cannot show “ass” and has to be tougher than everyone else since her last name is McMahon.

- Poor Chad Gable. Sigh.

- So Braun is 100% officially a babyface now. He powerslammed Balor once, pinned him and then after picking him up to do it again, stopped and put him down. No more tweener Braun.

- With Natalya qualifying for Money in the Bank, would WWE go with Rousey beating Jax and then Nattie cashing in immediately? If not, Stephanie has to be interfering and costing Rousey the title at MITB.

- Elias is a genius. The best heels in wrestling are those who base their promos with a smidgen of proof in them so that you can see their point despite it being flawed. Hence Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. Well Elias noted on Monday that since he arrived at RAW, the WWE stock has risen 150%. He’s technically NOT wrong. Of course he isn’t the reason for the stock increase as the new TV rights deals are, but his logic is that he is the reason. SOLID GOLD!!

- Alicia Fox was backstage at RAW this week. This was her first WWE event she has attended since she was banned from attending Wrestlemania due to her confrontation with Ronda Rousey’s husband Travis Browne at a bar in New Orleans.

- WWE is just waiting for the right storyline for Jason Jordan to return. He has been medically cleared for several weeks now.

- I am not sure what is going on with Big Cass. He “worked” a live event over the weekend with a considerable limp and then was pulled from his Smackdown match against Daniel Bryan this week selling the attack from the beating Bryan gave him last week. He was at Smackdown this week shown backstage on crutches however he was spotted limping around backstage when the cameras were NOT around. So I am confused as to whether or not he may really be injured.

- Next week we get Samoa Joe vs. Daniel Bryan on Smackdown and I am STOKED. WOW. Hopefully they are given time before the screw job finish most likely involving Big Cass.

- Oh, by the way, 50/50 booking guys. Cass is going to beat Bryan.

- WWE has added LANA to the MITB match. My theory is that since they tried their hardest to break up Rusev and Lana and failed despite their strongest efforts, WWE has decided to just try and KILL HER!!!!! That is the only explanation as to why they would add her to this match.

- Week 2 of Andrade “Cien” Almas went well. Keep it up WWE. Please don’t f*ck it up.

- Ronda Rousey will be making her Japan in-ring debut on August 31st in Osaka as the RAW team is touring Japan then. Smackdown will be touring at the end of June and the shows are being built around Shinsuke Nakamura, Asuka, A.J. Styles, Daniel Bryan and Miz. Surprisingly no Samoa Joe is being mentioned in promotion of the tour.

- Rousey makes her in-ring debut at Madison Square Garden in New York City on July 7th.

- WWE is shifting all PPV’s to be 4-hours long beginning with Money in the Bank. The new PPV start time will be 7:00 pm ET with the pre-show now beginning at 6:00 pm ET. Just what we need, MORE HOURS OF WRESTLING!!! The Big 4 PPV shows will remain with the 7 pm start time but end at midnight as opposed to 10:30 pm like the “B” shows.

- It is believed that Vince McMahon has finally agreed to allow both ICW and Progress shows to air on the WWE Network moving forward and an announcement is expected to be made in June when they run Royal Albert Hall in London.

- WWE has announced the first round matches for the U.K. King of the Ring tournament at the Download Festival in Derby U.K. The brackets have not been announced so we do not know which winners are facing who but we do know the entire 1st round. The matches will take place between June 8th and June 10th with the winner getting a title shot at Royal Albert Hall against Pete Dunne on June 19th. The matches are:

  • Jack Gallagher vs. Drew Gulak
  • Ashton Smith vs. Joseph Conners
  • Flash Morgan Webster vs. James Drake
  • Kenny Williams vs. Dave Mastiff
  • El Ligero vs. Travis Banks
  • Zack Gibson vs. Amir Jordan
  • Tucker vs. Joe Coffey
  • Tyson T-Bone vs. Jordan Devlin
  • - In an interesting note, Toni Storm did in fact sign with WWE but with WWE U.K. meaning that she will NOT be wrestling on RAW or Smackdown or even NXT and instead will be featured for the eventual U.K. Brand.

    - The 2nd Annual Mae Young Classic is set to tape August 7th and 8th at Full Sail University in Orlando Florida. WWE has reached out to a ton of female independent talent and has asked them to keep those dates free.

    - WWE is looking to lock up MLW talents to contracts mainly due to their television deal in Florida. This situation is going to be interesting moving forward as WWE now has money to burn and can offer contracts to talents even if they don’t want/need them all to keep them from being on a rival’s television shows.

    - Miz and Mrs. starring The Miz and wife Maryse is set to debut on the USA Network on July 24th immediately following Smackdown Live. It will follow the life of the couple as they expect their first child. The show will run for 6 episodes at 30 minutes each.

    - After press time last week WWE.COM revealed that Randy Orton will be out of action for about two months after he underwent a successful surgery on Friday for a torn meniscus. Orton was reached for comment in the article and noted that he had needed it for some time now but kept putting it off because he was waiting for the right time. He is expected back in time for Summerslam.

    - Big Show revealed to Steve Austin that his hip is NOT 100% healed and the infection he got from the surgery is still lingering. He has another 5 months or so before he can return.

    - Major congratulations go out to WWE star Goldust as he celebrated 10 years sobriety on Saturday. Awesome.

    - In addition to the Revival making a pit stop in NXT against the Undisputed Era, former NXT star Tyler Breeze made his return for a match against Marcel Barthel.

    - WWE has opened up a WEBSITE for the Performance Center.

    - The libel court case involving CM Punk and Dr. Chris Amann was set to go to trial on Monday however was postponed as attorneys for both sides decided to once again discuss a settlement. The judge has postponed allowing them to try to reach an agreement. No clue what the drop dead date is that was set by the judge but if no settlement is made, jury selection will begin soon and Punk’s attorney’s believe they are fully prepared to mount a defense. .

    - Crazy to think that Owen Hart has been gone for 19 years this past Wednesday. Wow. R.I.P.

    - Former WWE Star Tom Magee, who is one of the biggest mysteries in wrestling history for those who do not know, was severely beaten by 6 men in California outside of his home over a parking spot. Magee suffered a broken jaw, broken eye socket and a major concussion. He wrestled for WWE between 1986 and 1990 and WWE management had hoped that he would be a “Hulk Hogan” caliber star based on his physique and athleticism as he had a background in Olympic weightlifting, knew gymnastics very well thus giving him an ability to be a highflier and he was a black belt in karate. In one of his early matches, he wrestled Bret Hart 1x1 and the match was so good, WWE was prepared to rocket strap him to the main event however it was revealed that BRET was the reason for the excellent match as Magee’s subsequent matches did not hold up to that one and he was then made a preliminary guy. The match was such a big deal that WWE has NEVER released any version of it and even those within WWE are not able to access it. It is as if it has never existed.

    - Congrats to former WWE Diva Stacy Kiebler as she revealed that she is pregnant with her 2nd child.

    - Former WWE Star Enzo Amore will be doing a public speech/ meet & greet in Times Square in New York City thanking all of his fans for sticking by him on Monday at 9:00 pm ET.

    - In MAJOR HEARTBREAKING NEWS, former WWE star Matt Cappotelli’s wife revealed that his doctors have chosen to stop treatment on his brain cancer. She also noted that he is sleeping a lot more and no longer able to speak in complete sentences and only talks in words and phrases. Essentially the treatment he was getting is no longer working therefore it is now a waiting game.

    - Skip to 37.40 of THIS VIDEO to see Matt Cappotelli’s retirement speech from OVW when he found out he had brain cancer. It is probably the most emotional video you have EVER seen in wrestling.

    - The FINAL DAYS of Randy “Macho Man” Savage. It is an old article which I have never read until today.

  • Ring of Honor / New Japan / Lucha Underground / IMPACT WRESTLING / Independent / International News and Notes:

-The time has come folks. Due to lack of news and the fact that shows are taped so far in advance, which while good for budget purposes can ruin a promotion due to injuries/departures/firings/etc can also be a detriment, I have decided to merge the Impact Wrestling section with the ROH/New Japan/LU/Indy section. I had Impact as a separate section for years based on it being the #2 promotion in the world and trying to compete with WWE but in reality, Impact has NOT been the #2 promotion in the world for a while now as that title officially goes to New Japan Pro Wrestling as they had a net revenue of $42 million last year which is far and away larger than any revenue that Impact has ever made, if any. I think it can probably be argued that Impact isn’t even number 3 since ROH also makes a profit annually as well. I know this is going to hurt a lot of feelings by people who still stand by the promotion but reality is reality. There isn’t enough importance to the Impact brand for it to warrant its own section anymore.

    - Impact Wrestling is filming a “One Night Only” PPV at Santino Marella’s wrestling school in Ontario on June 3rd. They have announced Austin Aries vs. the debuting Rich Swann for the show.

    - Ring of Honor is once again opening up a DOJO to train current independent wrestlers and prepare them for ROH with Delirious, B.J. Whitmer, Joey Mercury and Jonathan Gresham as the training staff. The facility will be in Baltimore Maryland and will also have guest trainers such as Bully Ray and Jay Lethal pitching in as well. Essentially it is similar to what Taz had done a few years back with a “finishing school” as rather than train from the bottom up, they would take guys who needed to polish their stuff and figure out what the “next step” is to success. In all honesty, EVERYONE on the independent scene who is making a name for themselves and not working for ROH/Evolve/PWG/New Japan/Etc. should be all over this. I am flabbergasted that when the New Japan Dojo opened up, the only east coast independent wrestler who traveled on his own dime to Los Angeles was Azrael. Everyone is claiming that they want it and are good enough to be on TV or a star somewhere yet doesn’t make the effort to get there. Can’t swallow their pride and try out. They can’t sleep in their car for a few days if they can’t afford a hotel. If you want it, you will do it.

    - ROH announced that CMLL star Ultimo Guerrero will take on Dalton Castle for the ROH Heavyweight Championship on June 2nd in New York at the Hammerstein Ballroom. The show is a television taping titled “New York City Excellence”.

    - I bought a month of “Honor Club” through my Apple TV and so far so good. They have limited content so far but there is some older stuff that is cool. The app itself is sh*t when it comes to design and navigation though. I am not sure if I am going to renew it or not based on what I have seen so far as it feels like it is too much monthly for the amount of content. WWE offers WAY MORE and is incredibly simpler to find stuff.

    - All 300 tickets to the C.M. Punk meet at greet on “ALL IN” weekend sold out within minutes.

    - John Hennigan a.k.a. Johnny Mundo a.k.a. John Morrison a.k.a. Johnny Nitro has been talking about coming into New Japan.

    - Also, as I had noted last week, Mundo has been cast on the next season of CBS’ “Survivor: David vs. Goliath”. The show is set to debut this fall on CBS and was filmed on the island of Fiji.

    - Congrats to Britt Baker, independent wrestler and girlfriend of Adam Cole as she graduated from dental school last weekend and is officially licensed to practice dental work.

    - Shimmer has announced that they plan on going into the streaming business with their own steaming service that will debut in June with roughly about 150 hours of content at the debut launch.

    - Matt Riddle is DONE with MLW due to his deal with WWN. He had worked the first few MLW shows but was pulled from future shows due to MLW striking a TV deal in Florida.

    - CMLL announced that Rush vs. L.A. Park in a hair vs. mask match will take place on their anniversary show in September. Considering L.A. Park hasn’t been in CMLL in YEARS and his mask is one of the most popular and recognizable in the history of Mexico and certainly one of the top 3 still wrestling there today as well as Rush having NEVER lost a match with his hair on the line (and he has put it up several times) this match is HUGE.

    - In an interesting note, following a match at the Crash Promotion in Mexico in which he lost, Penta OM challenged Caristico to a match “in his house” which means Arena Mexico. Considering he wrestles for AAA and Lucha Underground, that will be interesting logistically.

    - I don’t know how or what this is but apparently “Global Force Wrestling” is still a thing as Global Force Entertainment just announced a partnership with FITE TV and it is being led by WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett.

    - By the way, Global Force Entertainment? I really don’t think Jarrett through the initials through. How do you think those important business meetings with networks go when Jarrett is trying to pitch the importance of GFE to executives? “Just think about it. You can have GFE for a decent price.” For those of you too young or don’t know what GFW is, go visit the Urban Dictionary. Just don’t type it in Google though and if you do, don’t do it from a work computer.

    - Then again, Jarrett was ok with TNA so…..

    - Latest Episode of BEING THE ELITE.

    MMA News and Notes:

    - It has been a busy two weeks for WME-IMG and Ari Emmanuel. On the heels of UFC launching a deal with ESPN+, their new streaming service for $150 million a year as well as closing deals for WWE for RAW to remain on USA Network and Smackdown to move to Fox in incredible deals, Variety is reporting that UFC has now closed their television rights deal with ESPN (the cable network) at $1.5 billion for the next 5-years ($300 million a year). The new layout will be 20 annual ESPN+ events, 10 ESPN Fight Night events and 12 ESPN prelim events before PPV’s. This deal is worth DOUBLE what Fox has been paying them. So an incredible week for WME-IMG.

    - The reason UFC went with ESPN is because Fox had a $200 million a year offer on the table and was unwilling to budge from that number. Once it was announced that UFC signed a deal with ESPN+ for their streaming services, FOX removed their offer from the table because they wanted exclusivity. That is what opened the door for ESPN to swoop in for the linear TV rights fees.

    - Dana White has confirmed that UFC will maintain production for their shows meaning that while ESPN is of course free to make suggestions, UFC has the final say on how the shows look.

    - Despite UFC’s fan base aging over the past few years, they still have the 3rd youngest demographic in ALL of sports trailing only Soccer and the NBA. They have a younger audience than the NFL, MLB and NHL and that is what ESPN was looking for when signing UFC.

    - Last week I noted my congratulations to Ariel Helwani on his signing with ESPN. It is extremely interesting now since he is the public face of MMA media and UFC signing with ESPN based on Helwani’s past skirmishes with UFC President Dana White. He is a huge asset to ESPN due to the fact that he has been the main source of breaking MMA news for years now so ESPN will be getting all of those breaking news stories.

    - Dana White is scheduled to meet with Conor McGregor on Sunday in Liverpool to discuss his UFC future.

    - George St. Pierre has revealed that he has no interest in fighting Nate Diaz and that his next fight should be against either Conor McGregor or Khabib Nurmagomedov.

    - UFC Welterweight Champion Tyrone Woodley said he should be cleared to return to action by August. That likely isn’t happening however as his potential opponent will be the winner of the interim Welterweight Title fight between Rafael dos Anjos vs. Colby Covington taking place on June 9th. Even if the winner comes out injury free, that is way too quick for a turnaround time.

    - Despite talking about a fight at Light Heavyweight against Alexander Gustafsson which was being discussed for August 4th in Los Angeles, Luke Rockhold has re-injured his leg during training and will be on the shelf for several months. October is now the return date he is targeting. Rockhold has been out of action for OVER a year already as his last UFC Fight was on May 28th of 2017 which was a knockout win of Glover Teixeira.

    - In addition so sacrificing 20% of her pay to Amanda Cooper, Mackenzie Dern revealed that she also had to give up 15% of her win bonus and noted that she guaranteed that she will never miss weight again. Considering she has missed weight in 3 of her 6 UFC fights, I would absolutely take that bet because unless she moves up a weight class, she is absolutely going to miss weight again.

    - UFC Heavyweight Star Fabricio Werdum has been flagged by USADA for an out of competition drug test failure from a test he took on April 25th. Werdum claims it is all a misunderstanding and that he is cooperating with both UFC and USADA to clear up the situation.

    - There was some hullabaloo last week regarding CM Punk being on the main card of the June 9th show from Chicago and Holly Holm being relegated to the prelims on Fox Sports 1. So UFC has rectified that situation and moved Holly Holm to the PPV portion of the card and demoted ALISTAIR OVEREEM TO THE PRESHOW!!! LOLZ.

    - Mirko “Cro Cop” Fillipovic was forced to pull out of his fight tonight in London for Bellator MMA against Roy Nelson due to an injury suffered while training. That was scheduled to be the main event of the show. The new main event will be Bellator Middleweight Champion Rafael Carvalho vs. Gegard Mousasi. Cro Cop has tore his knee completely with an MCL, ACL, MFL and MAL tear and an LCL sprain. OUCH. There is no timetable for his return but it is not expected to be anytime soon.

    - Due to the CroCop injury, Roy Nelson was removed from the card rather than given another opponent.

    - Current Titan Fighting Championship Flyweight and Bantamweight Champion Jose Torres has signed with UFC and will debut on June 1st from UFC’s Fight Night in Utica NY.

UFC 225 is on Saturday, June 9th, 2018 from Chicago Illinois and the line-up is as follows:

  • UFC MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE: Robert Whitaker © vs. Yoel RomeroUFC INTERIM WELTERWEIGHT TITLE: Rafael dos Anjos vs. Colby Covington
  • C.M. Punk vs. Mike Jackson
  • Alistair Overeem vs. Curtis Blaydes
  • Holly Holm vs. Megan Anderson
  • Claudia Gadelha vs. Carla Esparza
  • Joseph Benavidez vs. Sergio Pettis
  • UFC 226 is on Saturday, July 7th, 2018 from Las Vegas Nevada and the line-up is as follows:

  • UFC HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE: Stipe Miocic © vs. UFC LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION Daniel Cormier ©
  • UFC FEATHERWEIGHT TITLE: Max Holloway © vs. Brian Ortega
  • UFC 227 is on Saturday, August 4th, 2018 from Los Angeles California and the line-up is as follows:

  • UFC BANTAMWEIGHT TITLE: T.J. Dillashaw © vs. Cody Garbrandt

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week: What a f*cking idiotic coward and a baby!!! She killed herself and her son all because her spouse LEGALLY challenged her taking her son to Europe for the summer. This was her way of pouting about it. She lost fair and square and killed herself. I hope she f*cking rots in hell.

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week PART 1: Damn, this is sad to see. I have always been fascinated with Lions since I was a kid as it is the only thing I will ALWAYS watch when I catch a special on them on one of the nature channels. Lions are my favorite wildlife animal.

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week PART 2: The positive effect of body cams on police. I am so happy that these cases are being revealed as this is the 2nd case in as many weeks where claims were made and then proven false against officers.

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week PART 3: YES!!!! Hopefully justice will come to this scumbag piece of sh*t!!

    - July 31st!! That is the Avengers: Infinity War digital release date. YAY!!!

    - Infinity War as of this writing is closing in on $1.9 billion worldwide and should hit that number by Sunday.

    - Are we getting Star Wars overkill? This week marks the release of “Solo: A Star Wars Story” and it is currently on pace to be the LOWEST opening of ALL the Disney Star Wars releases at an estimated $130 - $150 million opening weekend. It also marks the very first Star Wars film that I am NOT seeing on opening weekend.

    - It has been revealed that actor Jake Gyllenhaal, despite originally being up for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman as a recast for actor Ben Affleck, is currently in talks to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the main villain for the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming. He is set to play the role of “MYSTERIO”!!!!

    - Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” ended their fantastic season on a damn excellent note in what would have been a fitting series finale had they not been renewed. I am anxiously looking forward to next season and hope they can keep moving on with the creative highs they have had the last 3 seasons.

    - Sony Pictures has confirmed and is moving full speed ahead with a “Men In Black” reboot which will star Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson in the titular roles; considering their chemistry in Thor: Ragnarok, I am 100% on board with this casting choice.

    - FOX has changed the title to the latest X-Men movie as instead of it being called “X-Men: Dark Phoenix” the title will now be “Dark PhoeniX” with the emphasis on the X. Since the film was pushed to 2019 from 2018, the belief is that Disney wanted to tone down promotion for the “X-Men” since Marvel is going to relaunch the franchise once the deal between Disney and Fox is complete in September 2019.

    - Actors/actresses Regina King, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Adelaide Clemens, and Andrew Howard have been cast as stars of HBO’s new “Watchmen” series.

    - Acclaimed writer/director James Mangold who was tasked with closing out the Wolverine storyline by FOX when he wrote and directed “Logan” has been given the hefty task of helming the long-rumored “Boba Fett” story for the latest entry in the Star Wars anthology series.

    - Disney is also allegedly moving ahead with a Lando Calrissian story having actor Doland Glover reprise the role from “Solo” as well as an Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off with actor Ewan McGregor set to reprise his role as the younger version of the character.

    - Universal Pictures has in fact secured the rights to distribute MGM’s next Bond film and on that news, MGM confirmed “Bond 25” set to be released November 8th, 2019 and will have actor Daniel Craig reprising his role. Academy Award winning director Danny Boyle is also confirmed to direct and production will begin in December.
