T.G.I.F. with Matt Dawgs: #455

Good day to you all and welcome to We Want Insanity. I am your host for today, Matt Dawgs and this is my column. Today is the end of the work week and the time to look back at all the goings-on over the past seven days as I wrap it up with a bow and spout it out bit by bit. Buckle up. Enjoy the ride.

MDJG NOTE: James Guttman is the Dad of Hi Blog! I'm Dad.

BONUS MATT NOTE:

- What a tragic week for the world of professional wrestling. WWE Hall of Famer Nikolai Volkoff passed away on Sunday at the age of 70. He had suffered a heart attack a few weeks ago and it was severe enough that he needed surgery to repair the damage but he refused to have surgery for it. He instead chose to live out his last days and die.

That was not the only tragedy of that day as long time wrestler and once considered a replacement for the Junkyard Dog down south, Brickhouse Brown passed away following a long cancer battle. Brown was thought to have passed away a few weeks ago to the point where his mother was waiting with his “body” for the coroner to come and take him away before he “woke up” and told his mother that he was hungry thus proving he was not dead. Insane story. But he succumbed to his illness a few weeks later.

They say death comes in threes and this week was no different as former WWE Star and son of WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler, Brian Christopher died at his own hands as he committed suicide at the young age of 46 years old. Christopher was in a Memphis prison since July 7th following a DUI arrest and was unable to make the $40,000 bail that was set. While in prison on Sunday, Christopher was found hanging and unresponsive in his jail cell. He was rushed to a medical facility where he was declared brain dead. His father was contacted and left an autograph signing to return to Memphis before life support was pulled. The story takes an even more tragic turn as it was revealed that Lawler and one of Christopher’s closest friends arranged for a treatment center to take him in and deal with his drug issues. The problem is, Lawler wasn’t going to spring the $40K for bail since he has bailed him out of prison numerous times in the past several months. I can imagine his pain as had he bailed him out, he would have been in rehab and thus not killed himself. So the guilt on The King must be heavy. It is such a shame as this story got even sadder when it was revealed that Brian, due to his fame, was held in solitary confinement since his arrest on July 7th which is terrible considering he wasn’t a danger to others or in danger. Being by yourself for 23 hours a day with no contact to anyone could be crazy.

- Jerry Lawler noted that he was overwhelmed by the messages of support that he has received over the past several days and that he was able to make it back and hold his sons hand while he breathed his last breath at around 3:30 pm.

WWE NEWS AND NOTES:

- Hopefully they are planting the seeds for what could be a good angle but Brock Lesnar went 100% HEEL on Monday to the point where fans were chanting “We Want Roman”. The whole show was built around Lesnar not giving a f*ck about anything including his advocate Paul Heyman. Roman had threatened to send Lesnar to UFC as “my b*tch” in his promo. When Heyman went backstage to talk to Lesnar about it and asked him if he saw what happened, Lesnar replied: “No. I don’t want the show Paul. Why in the world would I want to watch this show?” LOL.

PAUL HEYMAN TO ROMAN REIGNS: “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.” Mind you that Heyman said this on Raw when discussing Roman Reigns challenging Brock Lesnar for the Undisputed title. Then again Heyman could absolutely 100% unequivocally been referring to Vince McMahon trying to get Roman Reigns over as a babyface by having this historic coronation by defeating Brock Lesnar for the title. This Roman Reigns run has been ongoing for 4 YEARS NOW. SMH.

- SIDENOTE: I have been saying for weeks now that Braun Strowman is a guy who wants to cash in the briefcase face to face, man to man and isn’t going to do it some cowardly way. With that being said, WWE sure dropped the ball on Monday by not giving a valid explanation as to why Braun didn’t try to hunt down Lesnar backstage or even appear during the main event segment to try and cash in. They explained away why Reigns wasn’t there since he was asked to leave by Angle on behalf of Stephanie so that Lesnar could come out. But not Strowman? How come they didn’t have Kevin Owens get away with stealing the briefcase? That is a logical explanation. Owens stole it but Braun ended up getting it back. Had Owens kept it, then he can’t cash it in.

- I hope and pray that this Corbin/Balor feud ends at Summerslam with the return of the Demon Balor. It’s been like 200+ days since we last saw him.

- I thought that Heyman was Brock Lesnar’s advocate and representative. How can Angle fire him if he works for Brock? Why does he have two contracts? Isn’t that a conflict of interest if Heyman negotiates Brock’s deals as an advocate yet works for WWE as well? Isn’t that what got WME-IMG removed by WWE from negotiating their Fox deal because they own UFC and were also negotiating with Fox?

- I am all for Ronda vs. Alicia Fox not only because Ronda needs a squash match and that absolutely should be one but because of the whole Travis Browne/Alicia Fox drama from Mania weekend last year. Ronda isn’t a wrestler yet. She doesn’t have that wrestler mentality of doing what is good for business. I guarantee you she didn’t forget that incident.

- Unless Rousey changes her outfits, she is guaranteed to have a wardrobe malfunction on television one day. Usually it is her sports bra when she wrestled but this week it was her pants that kept falling off.

- Lesnar noting publicly that he doesn’t give a sh*t about the WWE Universe and that he’d rather be home accomplished exactly what WWE wanted in turning Lesnar. In the past, it has been Roman or the commentators putting over how little Brock cares. But hearing it come straight from Brock’s mouth is what sealed the deal.

- Elias running down the Rock via social media and in interviews is one thing. Elias running down the Rock on RAW in Miami is a completely different thing. Where there is smoke, there is fire. The belief within management is that The Rock is in for Mania this year at his request as he wants to work the show. Rock is still coordinating his schedule but wants to free up the dates to make an appearance and work a match meaning that his May schedule would need to be cleared in the event of injury. We will see but I am sure WWE is with it.

- With that being said, WWE certainly knows how to tease because having him run down the Rock in Miami most certainly got the fans thinking he was going to appear. Imagine the disappointment when Lashley showed up instead.

- Bobby Roode being used as fodder to get Mojo Rawley over. Wow.

- Hol sh*t does the Authors of Pain suck badly without Paul Ellering. They are so terrible on the mic and so bad in the ring. Plus trading wins and losses with Titus O’Neil and Apollo Crews isn’t going to get them over. Why can’t WWE figure it out and learn how to book people? They can sacrifice O’Neil and Crews to them. They should be winning every match until the tag title program they eventually should get.

- In my broken record segment of the week, Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre should be a world title program instead of a secondary mid-card program to Rollins vs. Ziggler.

- I hope Angle can wrestle and that is what they are leading to. It looks like they are building to Angle finally gaining some balls and standing up to Stephanie. That of course will get him fired and thus force him back to wrestling. I am all for it IF, and this is a big IF, Angle can go. He has been extremely limited in what he has been able to do in the ring and that is a combination of ring rust, age and injuries. Hopefully he can get back on the ball.

- Corbin vs. Reigns feud is NOT a good idea especially if Reigns wins the title. That should NOT be the main event feud for Raw.

- I am over with this Raw tag team title picture.

- But speaking of it, Matt Hardy has been subtly dropping hints at retiring this week via social media. At age 46 with his body breaking down as it has been and all of his past demons, it may be time. He would be beneficial for the WWE at the Performance Center or on the creative team in some capacity. You can tell in his work that his body is in some sort of pain.

- By the way, how stupid was I huh? I was all in on the Broken Hardy gimmick coming to WWE and thinking they were gonna set the world on fire once Hardy got the shot at running with it. Boy was I ever wrong or what? That is completely my bad for thinking that WWE would give him the time of day. How could I be so gullible after all of these years of watching and reviewing WWE TV? Shame on me.

- I think and hope I am on the money about WWE reversing course (again) on Sasha Banks and Bayley and their split due to the “Evolution” PPV in October. They decided to keep them together until then where they will either break up before it and be a featured match on the card OR….they are going to go with the Horsewomen vs. Horsewomen match as the main event. One of those things are going to happen at that show and the Bayley vs. Banks match that was on the table for Summerslam in Brooklyn is OFF.

- I did dig the matching gear that Bayley and Banks had. Could that be a precursor for a women’s tag team title reign once they launch those titles? Stephanie McMahon did say that it would happen in an interview conducted last week. She said she doesn’t believe it will happen by the Evolution PPV but that it would happen one day in the near future.

- The main event segment of Brock going completely heel and burying Heyman by saying that they aren’t friend was a complete 180 from the way Brock has acted in the past 4 years. But….it’s the only way WWE can think of that will get Brock over as a heel and booed against Reigns. In WWE’s defense, it worked as fans cheered for Roman and wanted him to come out despite him being sent home. So there is that. If…it can lead to Heyman turning on Brock and costing him the title and joining a newly turned Roman Reigns as his advocate then I am on board this train as it will be an amazing ride. If it doesn’t and Reigns wins and stays babyface and Heyman moves onto managing someone else while Brock leaves then that sucks.

- Credit where it is due, whoever wrote Carmella’s promo did an excellent job if she was a babyface because that was a GOLD babyface promo. But because she was a heel, no one bought she was giving a face promo because Alexa Bliss did almost the same thing last month.

- I like Charlotte but adding her to the women’s title match at Summerslam is a disservice to Becky Lynch. I do like the fact that Becky, despite being best friends with Charlotte is also pissed at that. It should make the match better by far because as Carmella demonstrated against Charlotte in the loss, she isn’t good. Like, AT ALL.

- When I see matches like the Bar vs. The Usos it makes me hate WWE for ruining tag tea, wrestling. Tag team wrestling at its best is entertaining and can carry a program. It is a shame that they ruined it.

- I’ve been saying it for MONTHS NOW but Samoa Joe is the best promo in all of the WWE. It isn’t even close. They better put the title on him at Summerslam. He is the guy right now.

- I get where they were going with Orton “washing” the paint off of Hardy but really did no one notice that it looked more like water boarding than anything? I mean if they are ok with waterboarding then that is fine but I cannot imagine that WWE is ok with it.

- Zelina Vega can work if she is working with the right opponent. She is someone who works to the level of the person across the ring from her meaning that if she was in the ring with Becky or Sasha or Charlotte then she can have a good match. Sadly her in-ring debut on Smackdown was against Lana. So she wrestled at Lana’s level. It was NOT good. Not even a little bit.

- I completely forgot that it was Brie Bella’s match on RAW that started the “Give Divas A Chance” hashtag that caused Stephanie McMahon to create Women’s Wrestling, Fight for Women to be allowed to vote, allow women to drive cars and get real jobs other than being home barefoot and pregnant. So thank you Brie for causing Stephanie McMahon to become a trailblazer and a pioneer for women around the world.

- Miz mentioning some of the things he mentioned in his promo on Smackdown this week including Bryan should just let his contract expire and go back to wrestling for a few dozen people in high school gyms and bingo halls was a WWE fed line as they are clearly frustrated with his lack of re-signing with the company at the moment.

- Charlotte vs. Carmella was train wreck bad. Wow. Not much more I can say about it. I like Carmella because she can talk, is hot and athletic but she cannot f*cking wrestle to save her life. She is WORSE than Enzo was.

- UFC Star and former Interim Welterweight Champion Colby Covington was backstage at RAW on Monday in Miami.

- Also in Miami for some unknown reason was Hulk Hogan although he was NOT backstage at RAW. Hogan stirred social media up a bit when he posted a photo of him on a private plane heading to Miami and noting so but nothing came about it.

- In what is a fairly big deal and further proves that she is in it for the long haul, Ronda Rousey will make her IN RING Raw debut on Monday against Alicia Fox. That should solidify that she isn’t just a special attraction and is a full time roster member.

- CONGRATS to the BIG RED MAYOR!!! Glen “Kane” Jacobs won his mayoral election in Knox County Tennessee in a landslide and will officially become mayor on September 1st. Amazingly enough when he came to the podium for his acceptance speech, he came out to his Kane music. Awesome.

- Rey Mysterio is likely going to make his WWE return in the fall. He is booked for Cody and the Young Buck’s “All In” show on September 1st and has one other booking the next day. After that, he has cleared his schedule and is not taking any additional bookings.

- Speaking of September 1st, Daniel Bryan has STILL not signed a new contract with WWE. WWE is however making an effort to entice Bryan to sign as they have pulled him off several WWE live events in the coming weeks in order for him to be home with his family more. That is one of the major reasons Bryan was considering leaving.

- To coincidentally coincide with the season finale of Total Bellas, People Magazine is reporting that John Cena and Nikki Bella are in fact broken up for good. I just hope that all is cleared up and they can work through it in time for next seasons premiere.

- DOWN GOES ALEISTER BLACK!!! According to sources, Black suffered an injury last weekend at an NXT Live Event against Tommaso Ciampa which required surgery. Considering Takeover Brooklyn is two weeks away, he may have to miss the main event of the show meaning we are going to get the blow off and final match to Gargano vs. Ciampa in a one on one match.

- Maria Kanellis was at the WWE Performance Center all this past week training for her return to television.

- Marina Shafir made her NXT debut last week at a live event and was said to have done extremely well. Jessamyn Duke was also set to debut but for some unknown reason was scrapped. No word as to why or when she will debut.

- Keith Lee also made his NXT debut last week winning in a quick squash.

- Tyler Breeze made his return to NXT working a live event in San Diego losing to Lars Sullivan. I wish WWE would send some guys back to NXT like they used to in order to gain some steam while the younger talent get fresh faces with experience to work with. It helped out Tyson Kidd, Cesaro, Zach Ryder and others in the past.

- WWE is interested in both Fenix and Pentagon but no one is sure of the exact terms of their contracts with Lucha Underground or their status with AAA, CMLL and MLW. Until those terms are clear, WWE is likely to stay away from them.

- The former Madison Rayne of Impact and ROH fame will be making her WWE debut in the Mae Young Classic. She will be wrestling under the name Ashley Rayne.

- The full roster for the 2nd Annual Mae Young Classic has been officially announced and the participants are as follows:

  • Kaitlyn
  • Rhea Ripley
  • Io Shirai
  • Nicole Matthews
  • Jinny
  • Kacy Catanzaro
  • Deonna Purrazzo
  • Tegan Nox (Fomerly known as Nixon Newell)
  • Jessie Elaban
  • Reina Gonzalez
  • Taynara Conti
  • Mia Yim
  • Mercedes Martinez
  • Kavita Devi
  • Killer Kelly
  • Zeuxis
  • Isla Dawn
  • Lacey Lane
  • Karen Q
  • Toni Storm
  • Meiko Satomura
  • Ashley Rayne (Formerly known as Madison Rayne)
  • Priscilla Kelly
  • Xia Brookside
  • Hiroyo Matsumoto
  • Aerial Monroe
  • Vanessa Kraven
  • Allysin Kay (Formerly known as Sienna)
  • Xia Li
  • Rachel Evers (Rachael Ellering)
  • MJ Jenkins
  • Zatara
  • - Replacing WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross on commentary this year for the Mae Young Classic will be Mauro Ranallo.

    - There are rumblings circulating within WWE that WWE will no longer allow the NXT U.K. roster to take an independent bookings within a 7 day period of a WWE U.K. event. They can still take independent bookings, just not the week of a WWE/NXT U.K. show.

    - Lince Dorado has a torn ligament in his thumb and will keep him out of action for a few weeks.

    - Fellow 205 Live wrestler Mustafa Ali is also out of action with an undisclosed injury. No word on a timetable for his return.

    - Cruiserweight Champion Cedric Alexander as well as Smackdown star Tye Dillinger both came under fire this week due to some tweets from back in 2012 involving rape that have been dug up. Both have apologized via social media for their tasteless jokes at the time and I feel shouldn’t be punished retroactively for something as minor as this. Yes the jokes were stupid but it is fairly obvious to anyone with half a brain that they were indeed jokes. The fact that some snowflake is digging this stuff up is silly but I can’t expect anything less in the America we live in today where every Tom, Dick and Harry are offended by everything that happens and calls the police on little kids selling lemonade in their front yard to buy school uniforms. It is a sad society we live in where the P*ssification of American reigns supreme.

    - WWE Hall of Famer Sting was a guest on Lillian Garcia’s “”Chasing Glory” podcast on Monday and confirmed that he is finished as an in-ring performer. He noted that his neck feels fine and he has no issues or pain from it but when the injury vs. Rollins happened off of the turnbuckle bomb, doctors told him that he was extremely lucky it was NOT a catastrophic injury as it could have been. He also confirmed that he has not had surgery and doesn’t plan to since his neck feels fine but that for MONTHS after the initial injury occurred, he was in extreme pain.

    - It is believed that when WWE makes the jump to Fox that Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports 2 will pick up additional WWE programming including a studio show and hype shows both before and after Smackdown. FS1 is also looking to acquire the rights to air NXT’s weekly show which would be a HUGE boost in viewership from the WWE Network. WWE doesn’t want NXT to make the jump but in the end, it may be more beneficial if they do.

    - Former WWE Star Tommy Dreamer revealed in an interview last week that WWE offered him $1,000,000 in cash to fold his “House of Hardcore” promotion. Dreamer turned them down. Now while this is a great story, it is also tough to believe as “House of Hardcore” isn’t exactly setting the world on fire and there are a lot of other “bigger fish” to fry if you want to shut down potential competition. I am pretty sure that WWE doesn’t see them as a major deal when you have ROH, PWG, AAW, etc. out there running shows. It could be true. Also, with that being said, why in the world would Dreamer not take that deal? Yes running a promotion I am sure keeps him busy and it causes him some joy but feed your family dude. I guarantee that he isn’t making $1,000,000 off of his promotion. No way, no how.

    - Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez’s recent workout at the WWE Performance Center is a negotiating tactic as he has been pushing for UFC to give him a fight and UFC has not been working to find him one. So Velasquez is essentially testing the waters out.

NXT TAKEOVER: BROOKLYN PPV is on Saturday, August 18th, 2018 from Brooklyn New York and the line-up is as follows:

  • NXT TITLE: Tommaso Ciampa © vs. Alistair Black vs. Johnny Gargano
  • NXT WOMEN’S TITLE: Shayna Baszler © vs. Kari Sane

  • EC III vs. Velveteen Dream
  • WWE SUMMERSLAM PPV is on Sunday, August 19th, 2018 from Brooklyn New York and the line-up is as follows:

  • WWE TITLE: A.J. Styles © vs. Samoa Joe
  • WWE RAW WOMEN’S TITLE: Alexa Bliss © w/Mickie James vs. Ronda Rousey
  • WWE SMACKDOWN WOMEN’S TITLE: Carmella © vs. Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair

  • WWE CRUISERWEIGHT TITLE: Cedric Alexander © vs. Drew Gulak
  • New Japan / Ring of Honor / IMPACT Wrestling / Major League Wrestling / Lucha Underground / Independent / International News and Notes:

    - Ring of Honor has announced that Kazuchika Okada will be returning for the “Death Before Dishonor show on September 2th from Las Vegas Nevada. Okada has only wrestled for ROH/New Japan joint shows such as War of the Worlds. His last regular ROH appearance was over two years ago. At this PPV, he will team with his fellow stablemates of CHAOS including “The Best Friends” of Trent Baretta & Chucky T, Tomohiro Ishii and Rocky Romero and together they will be battling against The Bullet Club of Cody, Marty Scurll, Hangman Page and The Young Bucks of Nick and Matt Jackson in a Ten Man Tag Team Match. This is going to be AWESOME.

    - Also working the show on behalf of New Japan Pro Wrestling will be Jushin Thunder Liger.

    - ROH has signed Flip Gordon to a two year contract.

    - ROH has also signed Joey Mercury full time as a trainer for their dojo as well as a producer/agent for live and televised events.

    - There have been no further developments in the story of Jay Lethal and Tayler Hendrix following her accusations against him. The situation seems to have quieted down and no other women have come forward against Jay. I believe ROH is still having this independently investigated but by the looks of things, it looks like it was just accusations with no fact based behind them.

    - In absolutely terrible f*cking news, it is believe that IWGP Junior Champion Hiromu Takahashi will be out of action for about 9 to 12 months following his broken neck at the Cow Palace show last month. No word on what they are going to do with the title but they won’t make any announcement regarding it until after the G1 concludes.

    - As of this writing, Kenny Omega remains undefeated in the G1 Climax tournament with a 6 – 0 record. I do NOT expect him to win and believe his first loss will be to tag team partner and stablemate Kota Ibushi.

    - My picks for the final four are Tanahashi and Okada in the A block. In Block B it will be Naito and Ibushi. The finals will be Okada vs. Ibushi with Ibushi winning and challenging Omega at Wrestle Kingdom.

    - Jado injured his foot and will miss the remainder of the G1 tour.

    - As witnessed on the below episode of “Being the Elite”, Rey Mysterio will team with Fenix and Bandido to take on the Young Bucks and Kota Ibushi at “All In”. This is significant because it signifies that Kenny Omega will NOT be teaming with Ibushi in a tag match or with the Bucks in a six man tag and will be working a singles match. It is also interesting that Fenix is not team with his brother and full time tag team partner Pentagon at the show.

    - The ALL IN match for Mysterio as well as his September 2nd booking for an independent promotion are the last two independent bookings he has on his calendar. So it looks like Mysterio will be coming into WWE sometime in September.

    - The Best Friends of Chucky T and Trent Beretta are “ALL IN”.

    - That wasn’t the only major Young Bucks announcement that has been made this week though as it was announced on the Chris Jericho Rock & Wresting Rager that the Bucks will meet up against LAX of Santana & Ortiz for the first time ever in an ROH vs. Impact match. This will be the first time EVER that these teams have wrestled each other and the only place to see it will be on the cruise as Jericho has noted that NONE of the matches will be streamed.

    - Are you ready for Big CAZZ. Yes, with a Z. That is the name the former Big Cass is going to go by on the independents as he is set to make his debut at “Big Time Wrestling” in South Carolina on September 21st.

    - Tracey Caddell, father of independent wrestling star Trevor Lee also passed away last weekend at the age of 50 from a heart attack. Caddell was the former promotional partner of Matt Hardy in the Carolinas and helped Matt and Jeff launch the Omega promotion. Matt wished his condolences to Trevor and his family via social media in this trying time.

    - Someone in Combat Zone Wrestling didn’t use their brain last week when promotional material went out promoting an upcoming show as Matt Riddle’s “Final Independent Appearance before going to WWE”. SMH. How can someone be so dumb? Anyway, that has since been corrected to now read “One of Matt Riddle Final Independent Appearances”.

    - Rich Swann has signed a “long term” contract with Impact Wrestling. Not sure what the details are of this but this is a good fit for him. His bridge with WWE is likely irreparably burned as WWE has zero tolerance for domestic violence and despite him not being convicted of a crime, it is still a major blotch on his record that they may never be able to look past. It is also helpful that his wife, current Impact Knockouts champion Su Yang is in Impact as well so it is better for the both of them to keep the same schedule.

    - There is tough and then there is tough but not smart. Tessa Blanchard fell into that category over the weekend as she wrestled with a staph infection. Staph in wrestling is NOT something to be f*cked around with. It is absolutely something that could cause major issues if not treated and can also be spread.

    - The one negative about CMLL and AAA in Mexico working together is that it is hurting ticket sales and announcements. The CMLL anniversary show tickets go on sale tomorrow however nothing has been announced and the expected main event of the show is L.A. Park vs. Rush in a mask vs. mask match is now likely OFF. Even if the match was still on, CMLL CANNOT announce it because L.A. Park is putting up his mask at AAA’s “Triplemania” show on August 25th in a four way against Psycho Clown, Pentagon and Fantasma. So until that match happens, they can’t announce this one thus hurting early ticket sales for The Anniversaru show.

    - Zeuxis is GONE from AAA as she is working the WWE Mae Young Classic. While she is NOT signed by WWE, it is expected she will be following the tournament.

    - Latest Episode of BEING THE ELITE is here.

    - Here is MLW’s - BATTLE RIOT MATCH in its completion. Definitely worth a watch as I was there live and it was a great show.

    - Despite being announced for the October 4th MLW show in New York, L.A. Park will make his MLW debut on September 6th at their “War Games” show in Fort Lauderdale Florida.

    - For those who want to watch and follow MLW, and my advice is you should, but do not have beIN Sports or live in Florida, MLW has been uploading their shows to their YouTube channel the following day. Go give it a shot as there is a lot of good talent there like former champion Shane Strickland who just signed a long term deal with the promotion. MLW is looking to lock people into contracts although allowing them to work for other independent promotions without television deals so long as MLW has the right of bookings for their own dates.

    - beIN has been pulled from Comcast AND Verizon Fios following a contractual dispute. However as noted above, you can view the show via YouTube.

    - MLW’s return to Queens on October 4th (which I will be attending) will be headlined by The Lucha Brothers of Pentagon Jr. and Fenix against L.A. Park and El Hijo de L.A. Park. That should be super-duper fun.

ALL IN is on Saturday, September 1st, 2018 from Chicago Illinois and the line-up is as follows:

  • NWA WORLD TITLE: Nick Aldis © vs. Cody w/Brandi Rhodes
  • Kazuchika Okada vs. Marty Scurll
  • Hangman Page vs. Joey Janela w/Penelope Ford
  • Also Appearing: Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks, Stephen Amell, Rey Mysterio, Kota Ibushi, Pentagon Jr., Fenix, Tessa Blanchard, Matt Cross, Britt Baker, ROH Heavyweight Champion Jay Lethal ©, Chelsea Green, Madison Rayne, MJF, Don Callis, Ian Riccaboni, Excalibur, Justin Roberts, Alicia Atout, Bobby Cruise, Sean Mooney, So-Cal Uncensored (Chris Daniels/Frankie Kazarian/Scorpio Sky), and more.
  • MMA News and Notes:

    - A BIG rematch is set for tomorrow as T.J. Dillashaw defends the UFC Bantamweight title against Cody Garbrandt in a rematch of the UFC 217 main event. Garbrandt in hyping the fight this week noted that he went into the fight with a severely injured back and only took the fight instead of cancelling because George St. Pierre vs. Michael Bisping was the main event and as Bantamweight Champion, he would get PPV points for the show. So essentially since it was the biggest UFC PPV of the year at the time, he wanted the paycheck. He noted that he is NOT injured this time and plans on winning back his title.

    - With all of his legal issues now completed, Conor McGregor is looking to return to the Octagon before the end of the year. That is news that can only make UFC extremely happy. They wanted to sign him vs. Nurmagomedov for October 6th in Las Vegas for UFC 229. McGregor noted to TMZ that nothing is official yet regarding a fight with Nurmagomedov but both sides are close.

    - Nurmagomedov’s manager echoed those sentiments from McGregor noting that he believes a deal is close and that both sides will get it done soon.

    - Nate Diaz is back!!! According to the LA Times, Diaz is back and signed to meet Dustin Poirier at UFC 230 at Madison Square Garden in the co-main event. It is believed that the show will be headlined by Chris Weidman vs. Luke Rockhold which could be announced as soon as today’s UFC Press Conference for tomorrow’s PPV. This is a VERY tough fight for Diaz after two years off. His last UFC fight was the loss to Conor McGregor in August of 2016. I can’t see him winning this one especially after Poirier’s impressive win over Eddie Alvarez this past weekend.

    - With a win, Poirier will put himself in line for the winner of McGregor vs. Nurmagomedov.

    - As noted last week, it is official that UFC has stripped Colby Covington of the interim welterweight title. Dana White’s explanation for stripping him was that the interim title was set up so that the winner of his fight could face Tyrone Woodley when he returned. Covington, since he is unable to doesn’t need the welterweight title since Woodley is ready to fight. He did note however that as SOON as Covington is ready, he will get the first shot at the Woodley/Till winner for the title. The only caveat with that is that Woodley was NOT out of action for a long period of time and the only reason they created the interim title was because they needed a title match in the main event of that PPV. The title shouldn’t have been created in the first place.

    - UFC is now targeting Cris “Cyborg” Justino vs. Amanda Nunes for the December show. Justino wanted the fight as soon as September but Nunes will not ready that soon.

    - Dominick Cruz has been medically cleared to return to action and is looking to fight on a UFC show before years end.

    - Max Holloway says he is better from his issues a few weeks ago and he is confident that he will fight in UFC before years end. I think UFC may say different about that but we will see.

    - Anthony Smith is making a quick turnaround as he is taking on yet another major challenge in Volkhan Oezdemir as the main event of the UFC Fight Night on October 27th. With an impressive win, he will certainly be in line for a Light Heavyweight shot at Daniel Cormier or in the vacant title fight eliminator should Cormier not defend the title.

    - While it is certainly sad to see, UFC succeeded in what they were trying to accomplish as less and less fighters have signed up to join former UFC star Leslie Smith in her “Project Spearhead” campaign to unionize MMA. Once she was let go despite being a top contender on a winning streak, many fighters fearful for their jobs no longer are interested in signing up.

    - Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez’s recent workout at the WWE Performance Center is a negotiating tactic as he has been pushing for UFC to give him a fight and UFC has not been working to find him one. So Velasquez is essentially testing the waters out.

    - THIS LINK is for LIFE. Thank you soldiers. WELCOME HOME BLOG.

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week: Wow. This is like an episode of Grey’s Anatomy or Law & Order. Crazy!!

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week PART 1: This offer wasn’t well thought out. Like seriously dude, smarten up. Thankfully it wasn’t the owner who ran the shop at the time of the incident as he has since transferred ownership in the 6 weeks since the murder.

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week PART 2: This isn’t the first and sadly won’t be the last. Hell, I know a guy whose wife passed away the same way. It’s sad that people don’t want to put in the work or the diet to lose the weight. But, if you are going to go ahead with this for whatever the reason is, go to a REAL DOCTOR. Not some shady third world country. .

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week PART 3: There is ALWAYS that one bad apple that ruins the whole bunch. This could be crushing to putting him away because if she was just all in for a cash grab, it is going to hurt any other case. That would suck.

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week PART 4: Sad to see this story turning in this direction. It isn’t going to end up happily.

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week PART 5: We all need to keep an eye on this story and stay vigilant because I always have been waiting for the other shoe to drop since 9/11/2001. It is and always has been a matter of WHEN, not IF something like that would happen again on U.S. soil. This story doesn’t help me shake that fear as you can hear the hatred in his words. He wants revenge.

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week PART 6: Yet ANOTHER pristine example of the P*ssification of America. This character has been on television for 30 f*cking years now. THIRTY. But NOW he is offensive. Same character, same actor voicing the role, same accent, same nationality, same sterotype. Only NOW is it offensive to people. The other 29 years he has been around was ok. SMH. This country is going to hell in a handbasket.

    - F*CK YOU HOLLYWOOD!!! Both a “Facts of Life” and “Alf” reboot are in the works. I don’t get what the hell is wrong with Hollywood but this is getting ridiculous.

    - All caught up on Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger on Freeform. Surprisingly it was a solid show for a first season. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to next season. I really think Marvel should cameo each other’s shows from time to time. I popped when Misty Knight was referenced on the show so crossover episodes with Luke Cage or Ghost Rider would be awesome.

    - My next binge is Cinemax’s “Banshee” which I started this morning on my commute to work. WOW that first episode was good stuff. If it keeps at this pace, it is going to be good. The 5th season just finished but I have heard good things.

    - Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos accidently revealed that Marvel/Netflix will have 4 shows in the 2018 calendar year as he spilled the beans that Daredevil will be returning in 2018. That means that we had Jessica Jones Season 2, Luke Cage Season 2, Iron Fist Season 2 and Daredevil Season 3 all in the same year. WOW. His exact quote was that the 2nd half of the year will be big for Netflix because “In the short term, we’ve got a ton of new seasons of hit shows returning. Orange is the New Black, Ozark, Iron Fist, Daredevil, Narcos, The finale of House of Cards and the follow-up series to Making a Murderer.”

    - Star Wars: Episode IX officially began production on Wednesday. It has also since been confirmed that Mark Hamill will in fact reprise his role as Luke Skywalker in the film and unused footage of Carrie Fisher as Leia from episode 7 will be used with permission from the Fisher family.

    - Chris Pratt has written an open letter which was signed by ALL of his “Guardians of the Galaxy” cast mates lobbying for the reinstatement of director James Gunn for GOTG Volume 3. He also included a petition by Change.Org asking fans to sign it. Now if he wanted, I am sure he and his cast mates could all force the change by threatening to pull out of the film or franchise or Marvel Universe but I don’t think they would want to play that much hardball. They could if they wanted and would likely win if they did but this is a good first start for it.

    - I don’t think so much sh*t has ever hit a fan in a season of “Power” before than this one as everyone and everything is spiraling out of control. All of the previous seasons had Ghost, Tommy and Tasha all see the sh*t circling the drain but having some idea what is happening and how it is happening and what they can do to fix it. This season, no one seems to know what everyone else is doing and what is coming at them from behind the scenes. It makes for great television because just when you think one of them f*cked up beyond belief, you know that another GREATER f*ck up is looming around the corner. Good television.

    - Kendrick Lamar was AWESOME on Sunday.

    - Fox is developing a potential 24 Prequel featuring a new actor playing a younger Jack Bauer. It will be more of his origin story and show how Jack became Jack.
