T.G.I.F. with Matt Dawgs: #423

Good day to you all and welcome to We Want Insanity. I am your host for today, Matt Dawgs and this is my column. Today is the end of the work week and the time to look back at all the goings-on over the past seven days as I wrap it up with a bow and spout it out bit by bit. Buckle up. Enjoy the ride.

IMPORTANT MATT NOTE:: I am hoping that you readers have taken the time to lend a hand and donated to the JAIDAN STRONG cause for me. I’d really appreciate it if you did; as little as $5 can go a long way. If not, it isn’t a big deal but please at least SHARE THE LINK. I get that finances can be tough for some but taking the time to share a link via your social media doesn’t cost a dime. I’d appreciate it greatly as one of your friends or family members may be able to help out. Thanks.

BONUS MATT NOTE: Holiday Pizza Bites.

- Raw and Smackdown alike were just wrestling shows this week. It featured a ton of solid action but not a lot going on in terms of storyline development outside of the main Smackdown angle involving Shane McMahon, Daniel Bryan, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. Raw was built around Roman Reigns and the Shield and their respective feuds with Samoa Joe and The Bar. We also saw the official debut of “Woken Matt” which was f*cking GREAT. I just hope he gets the opportunity the gimmick deserves. The problem is, he is going into a feud with Bray Wyatt and in WWE world, 50/50 booking is boss meaning he is going to lose almost immediately. That is definitely not the way to go debuting this character.

- Jason Jordan is going to be a great heel if they give him a chance once he makes the turn; which by the way is coming soon.

- Am I the only one who is at the edge of their seat watching a Sasha Banks match? I feel like almost every bump she takes could be her last. She takes so many bumps that are dangerously close to breaking her spine.

- Nia Jax’s impending romance with Enzo is twofold. One it is further attempted punishment for Enzo which is still mind blowingly dumb to me because he is going to get it over. It is also punishment for Jax due to her constant reveal of dirty laundry on social media. Secondly, it is to keep Jax off RAW and move her to 205 Live and those storylines and keep her away from Alexa Bliss and the title as well as the Absolution storyline.

- Kane vs. Strowman needs to end. Hopefully next week.

- I cannot comprehend why they would let Alicia Fox get 80% of the offense in vs. Asuka in a 2 minute match. Call me crazy but that is just dumb booking. Sigh.

- I can legit watch The Shield vs. Sheamus & Cesaro each week and it doesn’t get boring. These guys work well together and I am looking forward to adding Roman Reigns and Samoa Joe into the mix. Nice matches ups there from a work rate perspective.

- I do like the stipulation that if Owens and Zayn don’t win against Orton and Nakamura, they are fired from WWE. Not fired from Smackdown, ALL OF WWE. That is a solid tidbit of creative because otherwise fans would immediately think that it is no big deal and assume that if they lost, they’d just show up on RAW.

- Look, I have made it public that I am 100% on board with Daniel Bryan returning to the ring and hopefully to WWE where in this environment now, he would be one of the MAIN stars like he should have been when he was forced into retirement. With that being said, it is blatantly obvious that they are building to something involving Bryan and Shane McMahon. If WWE gives Bryan the greenlight to return, Shane McMahon should NOT be the 1st person Bryan steps into the ring with. No way, no how. There is a laundry list of people who Bryan can not only have a better match with, but a safer match with. No disrespect intended to Shane because he does work hard and goes all out but he isn’t exactly the poster boy for clean in-ring action. Knock on wood as Shane hasn’t injured anyone to date but a lot of the stuff he does isn’t exactly crisp and safe looking. Plus, his matches always require stunts and doing a smoke and mirrors match with Bryan isn’t exactly the definition of safe. The only way it works is if Bryan doesn’t sell anything and just wipes the floor with Shane. I highly doubt that happens though since Shane’s last name is McMahon and they are always presented as incredibly tougher than everyone else on the roster.

- How did they not book A.J. Styles for Smackdown this week? Insanity.

- “RUSEV DAY!!!!”

- Whatever happened to Tye Dillinger? He would have been so much better served had he stayed in NXT.

- For those wondering, there have been rumors circulating that Bryan has in fact been cleared by Dr. Joseph Maroon to return but WWE has vehemently denied these rumors. I believe that where there is smoke, there is fire. No way does WWE go down this path if there isn’t something to it. It has to pay off someway.

- In ABSOLTELY not good news, Sheamus has been diagnosed with spinal stenosis. If you don’t remember what that is, both Edge and Steve Austin have it. That should tell you all you need to know about it. He is rehabbing it and has NOT had neck fusion surgery like both Edge and Austin so if he chooses to continue to wrestle, he may need to go that route and then revisit if he can continue wrestling once he heals up. But eventually father time is going to catch up with him and he may have to call it a career depending on the severity of it. Edge was forced into retirement earlier than he planned when his doctor told him one bad/wrong bump could put him in a wheel chair. Austin, while he could have had some more time in the ring, decided to hang it up before it got to the point that it did for Edge. Spinal Stenosis is also what Sting was diagnosed with following his neck injury vs. Seth Rollins. We know how that turned out for him.

- Speaking of Sting, he noted in an interview this week that he does not plan on getting neck surgery following the advice of Steve Austin. He said that Austin told him to only get it if necessary and Sting said that he currently is able to train/workout without any pain, has no sort of side effects from the injury and is living a normal life. At his age, without discomfort of any kind, the rehab would be worse than the actual injury. So he doesn’t plan on getting it done since he is healthy. He doesn’t plan on wrestling again but does still wants a match with The Undertaker although he doesn’t expect it to happen. He said he was fine with his time wrestling in WWE and he enjoyed it including his match with HHH. He was fine losing it and noted that the match was surreal due to the DX and nWo run ins thus it will live in WWE infamy.

- WWE is touring Abu Dhabi and India this weekend with HHH vs. Roman Reigns for the I.C. title in Abu Dhabi and HHH vs. Jinder Mahal headlining in India. Amazing to me that HHH is going to do 2 clean jobs in 2017. Wow.

- Congrats to Alexa Bliss and Sasha Banks as they had the first ever women’s wrestling match in history in Dubai yesterday. For those wondering, both women wore full body suits for the match.

- While I literally confirmed this in July, it is now making mainstream news that Ronda Rousey is close to finalizing a deal to work for WWE. USA Today had a FULL ARTICLE on it earlier this week.

- As an FYI…you noticed that Asuka is NOT using the Asuka lock as a finisher anymore and is instead using an arm bar. Hmmmm? 2 + 2 + ???

- WWE sent a camera crew to the Hardy Compound earlier this week and sat down with Reby Hardy to interview her for an upcoming WWE 24 documentary on the Hardy’s for the Network.

- During their annual “WWE Week” next week, USA has an NXT show listed on Wednesday at 7:00 pm ET. It will be one of the episodes taped at Full Sail University last week.

- WWE plans on running strictly 205 Live house show events beginning in January. They are running three events the weekend of January 19th with only a 205 Live roster in smaller venues than RAW or Smackdown. They are testing the waters to see if this is a viable drawing brand on their own. What is tough is that they plan on running Lowell Massachusetts on January 20th which will be going up against a STACKED UFC PPV show being held in nearby Boston Massachusetts. That isn’t the greatest idea.

- Congrats to Luke Harper as his wife gave birth last weekend to a baby boy.

- R-Truth revealed that he underwent shoulder surgery. I am being 100% honest here and mean no disrespect but I completely forgot that R-Truth was still employed by WWE.

- Thoughts and prayers go out to Kyle O’Reilly as his mother passed away from cancer last weekend. She had been battling the disease for some time.

- Still no definitive word on Lio Rush’s status but has been leaving a lot of cryptic tweets regarding being released without actually confirming nor denying if he was.

- Court documents during his divorce proceedings revealed that back in 2016, Rob Van Dam suffered a concussion on an independent show against Pentagon that has caused a permanent vision impairment that prevents him from ever working for WWE again as he is unable to pass the physical. It isn’t exactly as if WWE was going to be knocking down his door for bookings since he is 47 and a huge part of his act was his ability to do incredible agile moves that he now does in slow motion due to his age. His merchandise agreement with WWE has also ended however and was not renewed meaning no more RVD action figures, shirts, etc.

- Official TEASER TRAILER for the HBO Andre The Giant documentary.

- Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next Wednesday.

- Chris Jericho will NOT be wrestling at Wrestle Mania this year as Fozzy announced a bunch of tour dates from January through April including on Mania weekend in New Hampshire.

- CFO$, the musicians who have taken over WWE music from Jim Johnston essentially from 2012 to present day are planning on remaking all WWE themes on the roster that Johnston had a hand in. They are the ones responsible for most of the famous themes on WWE TV currently including Shinsuke Nakamura and Bobby Roode.

- Scott Levy and Marcus Bagwell have dropped their lawsuits against WWE for royalties from the WWE network in exchange for WWE dropping their counter suits against them. WWE did however retain the rights to refile their suit against Levy should he ever file suit against them. WWE counter sued Levy for false allegations he made on a Chris Jericho podcast when he claimed Vince McMahon paid off a judge to rule against him in a previous lawsuit he had filed against the company.

WWE CLASH OF CHAMPIONS PPV is on Sunday, December 17th, 2017 from Boston Massachusetts and the line-up is as follows:

  • WWE CHAMPIONSHIP: A.J. Styles © vs. Jinder Mahal
  • Randy Orton & Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn with SPECIAL GUEST REFEREE Shane McMahon. If Owens & Zayn lose, they will be fired from WWE.
  • WWE SMACKDOWN WOMEN’S TITLE: Charlotte Flair © vs. Natalya in a LUMBERJACK MATCH
  • WWE SMACKDOWN TAG TEAM TITLES: The Usos (Jimmy & Jey) © vs. The New Day vs. Benjamin & Gable vs. Rusev & Aiden English
  • WWE U.S. TITLE: Baron Corbin © vs. Bobby Roode vs. Dolph Ziggler

    - Impact officially closed the Nashville office last week so their official headquarters is now in Toronto.

    - As part of the change, two Canada natives have been named executive vice president of Impact Wrestling as Scott D’Amore and Don “Cyrus” Callis were granted the titles earlier this week and their job will be to develop the creative plan for the promotion moving forward as well as managing the execution of the business plan. Callis will continue in his role as color commentator for New Japan Pro Wrestling as well as his duties for Impact. So for those wondering, these aren’t just “titles” these guys are being granted. They are legit running the entire company and report directly to Ed Nordholm. So they are co-second in command.

    - With Callis keeping his job with New Japan, it is certain that he will now be working as a liaison between the two companies and will try to execute some sort of talent exchange. New Japan is high on Callis not only due to his commentary role which he is very good at but due to him being the broker in bringing in Chris Jericho to New Japan for his match with Kenny Omega.

    - Sonjay Dutt, who is the head of talent relations for Impact will work closely with D’Amore and Callis on creative of the company. The only producers/agents the company plans on keeping will be Jeremy Borash, Abyss and the recently hired Jimmy Jacobs.

    - John “Big” Gaburick is FINALLY gone from the promotion and expected to officially depart on December 31st. Also out of the creative process and the company is Dutch Mantell. Neither is being kept on in any capacity.

    - No timetable has been given but Ed Nordholm has been tasked by Anthem to get Impact into a “break even” position meaning no longer losing money. They have done a good job of cutting all of the major contracts and no longer have anyone under long term deals. Everyone is working on a pay as you go basis as if it were an independent promotion. While this is good to build around, they aren’t going to be able to compete with WWE or even ROH when it comes to signing major names anymore and in the long run, it is going to be hard to secure up and coming stars going forward.

    - Eddie Edwards contract is also expiring soon and he may not be renewed. If he is, it will NOT be under the same terms of his old deal.

    - Once all guaranteed contracts are done, Impact will no longer be offering any guaranteed deals. All new contracts will be for per appearance or set amount of dates deal.

    - It is believed that Laurel Van Ness will remain with Impact until January for the next set of television tapings at Universal where she will drop the Knockouts Title and then be granted her release.

Ring of Honor / Lucha Underground / Independent / International News and Notes:

    - Death is never an easy pill to swallow but this one hits kind of hard to me. Most of you who are not hardcore independent fans will not know him but those of you around my age or follow independents closely will. Brandon “Spyral” Kaplan passed away yesterday. Outside of being one of the most innovative in-ring performers I have ever seen (think Ricochet/Will Ospreay WAY BEFORE Ricochet/Will Ospreay) but he was one of the nicest people I have ever met. I literally met him while he was starting out on the independent scene. He worked hard and began receiving steady work for Combat Zone Wrestling as well as getting an invitation to work regularly for Ohio Valley Wrestling while it was still associated with WWE. He was being looked at by WWE for a possible tryout when he tragically suffered an in-ring accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down. He lived the last several years in seclusion from the outside world and was confined to a wheelchair unable to move. He passed away on Tuesday. It is sad as I absolutely wouldn’t wish paralysis on anyone but he was definitely one of the LAST people who should have had to go through this.

    - I know some of you are going to ask so the answer is NO; there is no video of him being injured. He was hurt during training when he tried to do a move and landed wrong. There is a video of him taking the botched pile driver off the apron through a table circulating that he was under a mask. That was NOT the move that paralyzed him.

    - AXS confirmed that on Saturday, January 6th they will air a condensed 3 hour version of Wrestle Kingdom 12 and will feature in their entirety, the double main event of Kazuchika Okada defending the I.W.G.P. world title against Tetsui Naito as well as Kenny Omega defending the I.W.G.P. U.S. title against Chris Jericho and the I.C. title match of champion Hiroshi Tanahashi defending against Jay White.

    - Cody and the Young Bucks have it narrowed down to Chicago and Southern California for possible locations for their 2018 show. They have been working hard on getting this off the ground as they are currently negotiating with the T.G.I.F. restaurant chain about an endorsement.

    - ROH made it official that if Cody loses his title tonight to Jay Lethal at Revolution Pro in London, the main event of Final Battle next week will be Lethal defending the title in a Four Way against Cody, Dalton Castle and Marty Scurll.

    - I.W.G.P. Intercontinental Champion Hiroshi Tanahashi injured his knee during the World Tag League tournament and will miss the remainder of the tour. He will undergo an MRI and the extent of his injury will be determined. Barring surgery, he will likely work the Wrestle Kingdom show at the Tokyo Dome as Tanahashi does NOT like to miss dates and has worked through several injuries through the years including currently working the past six months with a torn bicep.

    - Konnan was let go as head booker and head of talent for The Crash in Mexico. Crash in a press release cited ethical reasons for being let go. This stems from Konnan having a meeting with AAA without notifying The Crash and their ownership was not pleased as well as his signing with Arolucha in the U.S. to be head of creative there since The Crash was hoping to break into the U.S. market in 2018. Konnan is a part owner of the Crash and they are currently working on a deal to buy out his stake.

    - Michael Elgin hit a bit of controversy this week as he deleted his social media accounts and sold his independent promotion, Glory Pro out of Chicago stemming from a sexual harassment situation involving one of his students/roster members named Sean Orleans and a female fan. Elgin was not involved in the physical sexual harassment part however he did nothing to rectify it until the news became more widespread public. The incident took place in March 2017 and Elgin did not fire the perpetrator until November. The issue stems however from the victim notifying Elgin in March as soon as the incident occurred. There is evidence to prove this as well.

    - Elgin has already begun receiving some backlash over this as he has been pulled from 2 bookings for the Smash Wrestling promotion in Canada due to the above.

    - Independent star Mia Yim revealed that she has suffered a fairly major injury which is going to require her rest and rehab and she is not taking any more independent dates until March or April.

ROH “FINAL BATTLE” PPV is on Friday, December 15th, 2017 from New York City and the line-up is as follows:

  • ROH TITLE: Cody © vs. Dalton Castle
  • The Briscoes (Mark & Jay) vs. Bully Ray & Tommy Dreamer IN A STREET FIGHT
  • ROH TV TITLE: Kenny King © vs. Punishment Martinez vs. Silas Young vs. Shane Taylor
  • Marty Scurll vs. Jay Lethal
  • The Addiction (Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian) vs. War Machine (Hanson & Rowe)
  • ROH TAG TEAM TITLES: The Motor City Machine Guns © (Chris Sabin & Alex Shelly) vs. The Kingdom (Matt Taven & T.K. O’Ryan) vs. Chuckie T & Trent Baretta
  • ROH TRIOS TITLES: The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) & Hangman Page © vs. Dragon Lee/Titan/Flip Gordon
  • NEW JAPAN PRO WRESTLING’S WRESTLE KINGDOM 12 is on Sunday, January 4th, 2018 from Tokyo Japan and the line-up is as follows:

  • IWGP WORLD TITLE: Kazuchika Okada © vs. Tetsuya Naito
  • IWGP INTERCONTINENAL TITLE: Hiroshi Tanahashi © vs. Switchblade Jay White)
  • IWGP UNITED STATES TITLE: “The Cleaner” Kenny Omega © vs. “Lionheart” Chris Jericho
  • ROH WORLD TITLE: Cody © (Should he still be champion) vs. Kota Ibushi
  • IWGP JUNIOR TITLE: Marty Scurll © vs. Will Ospreay vs. KUSHIDA vs. Hiromu Takahashi
  • IWGP JUNIOR TAG TEAM TITLES: Roppongi 3K (Sho & Yoh) © vs. The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson)
  • MMA News and Notes:

    - With a convincing win knockout win over Jose Aldo over the weekend, Max Holloway cemented himself as a superstar and was asked if he would like to avenge his early career loss to Conor McGregor when he was a much lesser fighter. Of course Max agreed and said he’d love to fight Conor again. Unfortunately for him however, Dana White revealed in a post-fight press conference that he is uncertain if McGregor will ever fight for UFC again but as of now, they are as a company proceeding as if he is not coming back.

    - The loss marks Aldo’s first time losing consecutive fights in his career. Aldo has lost 3 of his last 4 fights. That is not a good sign for someone who has been fighting as long as he has. It shows he is beginning a decline.

    - FRANCIS NGANNOU. HOLY SH*T!!! He MURDERED Alistair Overeem last weekend in impressive fashion knocking Overeem out one minute, forty two seconds into the first round. This is Ngannou’s 6th win in UFC in 6 fights. 5 of which were knockouts and one 1st round submission win. He has been on such a monster streak that he has been granted a title shot at Stipe Miocic’s Heavyweight Title at UFC 220 on January 20th.

    - The co-main event of that show will be Daniel Cormier defending the UFC Light Heavyweight title against Volkhan Oezedemir. That is a pretty damn solid double main event that could essentially end with two new champions each winning by KO. Strong possibility.

    - Eddie Alvarez vs. Justin Gaethje was everything everyone expected it to be and MORE. These guys went to war and Alvarez cemented himself as one of the toughest in lightweight history. These guys massacred each other for three rounds before Alvarez was finally able to put Gaethje down with a kick to the head.

    - Any hopes for a George St. Pierre fight in the early part of 2018 have been dashed by GSP announcing that he is suffering from ulcerative colitis which is a major stomach condition that may or may not require surgery. Apparently he went into the Bisping fight with the condition and almost pulled out of it. This was likely caused by the massive weight gain he had before cutting down for the fight.

    - GSP, due to the illness he received from bulking up and then cutting weight noted that it is NOT something he plans on doing ever again and vacated the UFC Middleweight Title yesterday. Due to this, Robert Whitaker has officially had the “interim” title removed from his title reign and is now the defending UFC Middleweight Champion. UFC is currently closing in on a deal that will have him defend the title at the February UFC show in Perth Australia against Luke Rockhold at UFC 221.

    - While no new fight has been set despite meeting with Dana White last weekend in Detroit, CM Punk did receive his blue belt in jiu-jitsu earlier this week.

    - Despite his claims about having some sort of brain injury, after being tested by UFC doctors at the training facility in Las Vegas, Mark Hunt has been medically cleared to fight per UFC doctors.

    - Donald Cerrone noted that he plans on moving back down to 155 lbs. from 170 lbs. where he has been fighting of late.

    - Roy Nelson vs. Matt Mitrione in the Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix will headline the Bellator show on February 16th.

UFC ON FOX is on Saturday, December 16th, 2017 from Winnipeg Canada and the line-up is as follows:

  • Robbie Lawler vs. Rafael dos Anjos
  • Ricardo Lamas vs. TBD
  • Glover Teixeira vs. Misha Cirkunov
  • Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Jared Cannnonier
  • Tim Elliott vs. Justin Scoggins
  • Chad Laprise vs. Galore Bofando
  • John Makdessi vs. Abel Trujillo
  • UFC 219 is on Saturday, December 30th, 2017 from Las Vegas Nevada and the line-up is as follows:

  • UFC WOMEN’S FEATHERWEIGHT TITLE: Cris “Cyborg” Justino © vs. Holly Holm
  • Jimmie Rivera vs. TBD
  • Cynthia Cavillo vs. Carla Esparza
  • Carlos Condit vs. Neil Magny
  • Edson Barboza vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov
  • UFC 220 is on Saturday, January 20th, 2018 from Boston Massachusetts and the line-up is as follows:

  • UFC HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE: Stipe Miocic © vs. Francis Ngannou
  • UFC LIGHTHEAVYWEIGHT TITLE: Daniel Cormier © vs. Volkhan Oezdemir
  • UFC ON FOX is on Saturday, January 27th, 2018 from Charlotte North Carolina and the line-up is as follows:

  • Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza vs. Derek Brunson
  • Ovince St. Pruex vs. Ilir Latifi
  • UFC 221 is on Saturday, February 11th, 2018 from Perth Australia and the line-up is as follows:

  • UFC MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE: Robert Whitaker © vs. Luke Rockhold

    - THIS LINK is for LIFE. Thank you soldiers. WELCOME HOME BLOG

    - There was way too many stories on the subject for me to post below so I won’t but California is BURNING as you read this. The photos I have seen of the wildfires is INCREDIBLE and TRAGIC at the same time. It is legitimately looking like it was taken from a movie and is CGI special effects.

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week: Even though last week I reported that everyone knew where this story was heading, I was still holding onto a glimmer of hope. Sucks that I was right. Ugh.

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week PART 1: He absolutely will not be satisfied until the planet is at War. Just continuing to burn sh*t down at every turn not caring about the millions and millions he is pissing off in the process. SMH.

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week PART 2: Uh….this is a fairly big oversight by Time Magazine. I mean how does this keep happening to her? She is the one who opened the floodgates on this. She has virtually made the #MeToo movement. WTF?

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week PART 3: 60 years is way too easy. I read the details about what he did to those girls and it is sickening. Girls who the country rallied around as they chased and WON gold medals and this is how they were treated. Brutal.

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week PART 4: Sad story and I completely get where she was coming from. She wasn’t being homophobic in ANY way by her comments and I honestly feel those who lead to her committing suicide should be charged in her death.

    - BONUS Random ARTICLE of the week PART 5: I see that he shot him. Yes, his instructions were lengthy and unnecessary. That being said, the guy did reach for his waistband. Yes his shorts were falling. I get it. But dude, if you are in fear of your life and the cop is telling you what to do and thinks you have a gun (because that is what they were called for) don’t reach to pull up your shorts. Who gives a f*ck if your underwear shows?

    - Disney and Fox have re-started negotiations on a potential sale which would once again grant Marvel rights to the Fantastic Four and X-Men universe and thus open them up to introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The new talks are said to be intense with a deal being close to final (or by the time you read this, completed and set to be announced next week). The ideas will be limitless if this comes to fruition as Marvel will have rights to ALL of their characters again and can use them any way they see fit. Of course they will reboot all of their characters as I cannot see them sticking with the casting Fox has done despite some of it being well done such as Michael Fassbender. Hugh Jackman did note that he would revisit the Wolverine character if it was in the MCU so that is a plus. In addition to those rights reverting back to Marvel, the deal will also include all of the regional Fox Sports Networks thus making Disney the premiere sports cable channel since they own ESPN and their entities already and will be adding all of the Fox Sports College Football contracts as well as UFC. The basic Fox channel and their local affiliates will NOT be a part of the deal as television broadcasting rules do not allow a television company from owning two basic television networks.

    - The Agents of SHIELD season premiere event last week was all sorts of awesome. They really raised the bar last season and plan on topping it this year. It is so well written, well-acted and well put together. The plot twist was excellent. I am looking forward to this season with my only disappointment being that it will be told in 2 storyline pods as opposed to last season’s 3 pods.

    - Netflix has finally went on record to confirm that the 6th and final season of “House of Cards” will resume production soon WITHOUT Kevin Spacey and the two episodes he has filmed will be re-shot and his character will suffer an off-screen death. Robin Wright will become the new lead of the show and it is fitting since season 5 ended with her becoming the narrator noting “It’s my turn”.

    - I totally didn’t see that solution for the Firestorm character on “Legends of Tomorrow” but I guess it is what it is. While his character provided some fun comedic moments for the show, Actor Franz Drameh a.k.a. Jax has ALSO left the show following in his partner/mentor Victor Graber a.k.a. Dr. Martin Stein’s exit last week. So Firestorm is officially gone. Makes sense rather than them force feeding us a third version of Firestorm.

    - Lion’s Gate pictures has dropped distribution of the John Travolta led “Gotti” film which is scheduled to be released in 8 days. This due to the most recent John Travolta sexual harassment claim. Travolta claims that it wasn’t promoted properly and that it wasn’t getting enough distribution. In all honesty, due to the bad press he received recently with the sexual harassment allegations as well as his December 15th release date (opening against Star Wars: The Last Jedi), this movie was going to die a quick death at the box office. By waiting till 2018, it gives time for the heat to fall off his name barring anything new coming up and gets them away from Star Wars. The only thing they have to avoid now is opening against “Avengers: Infinity War” and they will be ok.

    - A shake up of EPIC proportions is ongoing at Warner Brothers due to the massive flop that Justice League has become. The film that WB was hoping would be their version of Marvel’s Avengers just crossed the $500 million mark and with Star Wars coming out next weekend, it is expected to take a massive fall. Considering when it was all said and done, Avengers grossed $1.5 BILLION worldwide and Justice League is about a billion short of it, as you can imagine WB execs are not pleased. The shake up isn’t expected to only be in creative as it is believed that “The Batman” director Matt Reeves doesn’t plan on bringing Ben Affleck back for the role. I am fine with Affleck’s take on the character although I do get them wanting someone younger in the role since it is supposed to be long term and a 48 year old isn’t exactly built for long term in the role. I hope they don’t get rid of the rest but it is an absolute that Gal Gadot will continue on as Wonder Woman until she no longer wants the role. Everyone else, they could get pushed out too.
