The Challenge: Champs vs. Pros - Episode 6

By James Bullock Jun 22, 2017 - 7:26 PM print

Previously on The Challenge: Though both teams found kinship with not only their own teammates, but also opponents, the game turned them against each other as Wes was pitted against Louie to send Louie home while Lolo defeated Ashley M in a thrilling Arena battle that ended Ashley’s Elimination Round winning streak.

Following a conversation between Darrell and Kamerion about their families and Darrell’s son being born premature, The Champs and Pros hit the road for an individual Team Challenge where each person will use color-coded basketball shots to earn points after ingesting various foods in the Team Challenge known as “No Guts No Glory” – the higher the shot points the harder the food to eat. The ladies are up first and everyone battles for the cooked brains. Cara finishes first, earning 45 points off the bat.

And Lindsey is the first to throw up. While Cara adds another 20 points, Louise & Camila get on the board with the 45 points each. Lolo & Lindsey finally finish the brains table just as Camila gains the lead with 80 points by eating a bowl of beans. And before everyone knows it, Cara finishes her beans to earn her spot in the final. But to avoid the elimination and poor Louise can’t continue when Lindsey throws up and it splatters all over Louise’s food.

The girls’ heat ends with Lolo getting the final point and Louise potentially going home due to her lacking finish. The guys are up next and Darrell decides to go for the lower point tables instead with CT and Kamerion first. But it’s Wes who gets on the board first after finishing some brains; though he struggles to make the basketball shots to correspond with making the points. CT, Kamerion and Darrell earn some points before CT chops down on some cooked heart. Wes starts to struggle when it comes down to the lower point table that features some potatoes. Kamerion, though puking continuously, keeps pushing forward in eating liver to earn his spot in the final. Gus soon follows Kamerion’s lead, as does Wes, but it’s Darrell who earns the first place spot for The Champs to secure his spot in the final – leaving Wes, CT, Camila, Lolo, Gus & Louise at the mercy of their times. Camila got a great time and joins Darrell, Cara, Lindsey & Kamerion in the finale. When Camila is asked who would be on her team from the group who had the time working against them, CT steps up and says how hard Wes has worked thus far and deserves to go in. Camila agrees and Wes joins her to complete the finale group. Unfortunately that means Lolo, CT, Gus & Louise will have to go home, but at least they all gained money for their charities. Louise takes things one-step further by stating she’ll pool her money into both her and Lolo’s charities so they can have more going into both causes. But these are the finale competitors.

After a night of eating and laughing, everyone arrives for the finale challenge – one that’ll feature the six competitors wearing weighted clothes matching 35% of their body weight while running through mud, climbing, and solving puzzles. After doing a mile run, everyone gets to drop the weight and start climbing bleachers over & over again. Wes & Camila take the lead while Darrell & Cara move into second, with The Pros’ representatives pulling up the rear when climbing a giant wall. With Cara starting to fade, Darrell opts to carry her. Crazy enough, Darrell & Cara catch up with Wes & Camila, passing them when they reach the point where they had to carry a bag matching 35% of their weight.

The next station is one where the competitors have to eat spaghetti & milk. Cara & Darrell keep it going in their favor by climbing the cargo net in the next station topped by a slide where the two hit some cold water to lock up their muscles. Clawing their way through the mud and avoiding barbed wire overhead, Wes & Camila find themselves catching up to Darrell & Cara during the puzzle section. Though they are in last place, Kamerion & Lindsey catch up to the pack and start actually doing well. But puzzle master Cara hits her stride and starts annihilating the puzzles while their competitors lag behind. But to attain victory, Cara & Darrell must remember this key phrase:

In a distressing moment for Darrell & Cara, the prior messes up the phrase by forgetting two key letters and the pair must run back down the hill & attempt to remember it all over again. While this is going on, Kamerion & Lindsey take second place after solving the second puzzle faster than Wes & Camila. But first place is too far ahead and Cara comes through with her memory to recite the football play to win first place and $50000 for their respective charities. Kamerion & Lindsey take second place overall while Wes & Camila finish last. Cara steps up and offers to give the other competitors $5000 from her winnings to split amongst their charities to end this special season of “The Challenge” on an emotional high note.

Episode High(s): The grand finale. You can’t have a “Challenge’ finale without something crazy, but this time around they kept it simple when it came to the final challenge (more on that later). But before the last six competitors worked toward the finale they had to perform in a fan favorite “Challenge’ moment where everyone ate a variety of food in the hot sun. As disgusting as it is seeing people throwing up after eating the weirdest of things, it’s just as hilarious. Thankfully they didn’t skip out on forcing good people to eat terrible food this time around.

Episode Low(s): Taking it easy. Okay, maybe “easy” isn’t a good description in regards to the actual final challenge, but compared to what has been seen during recent “Challenge” final missions this one was quite tame. There were no real twists or expansive formats, just a straightforward “Challenge” finale similar to the ones from the first couple of seasons. It’s understandable as to why they went about structuring the finale the way they did (having professional athletes agreeing to the competition), but it doesn’t take away from the fact the finale was just good instead of being epic.

Challenge Winners: Darrell & Cara Maria ($55000 respectively)

Eliminations: Veronica (Episode 1); Candice (Episode 1); Shawne (Episode 2); Johnny Bananas (Episode 2); Ashley K (Episode 3); Tia (Episode 4); CM Punk (Episode 4); Ashley M (Episode 5); Louie (Episode 5); Lolo (Episode 6); Louise (Episode 6); Gus (Episode 6); CT (Episode 6)

Most Embarrassing Athletic Display: Louise. Really you can’t blame her, but the fact remains Louise is the only person who didn’t finish the challenge this week. Once again – can’t blame her that she didn’t want to eat food splattered with vomit, but she still didn’t complete the challenge and could’ve cost herself a spot in the finale.

Competitor of the Week: Cara Maria. Simply put – Cara killed it with the final two competitions. Cara not only blasted through the eating portion, she pushed herself through the grand finale. Yes, she needed Darrell to help her recover, but once she got back in shape after a short break she started working her way through the puzzles and recited the phrase that gave her team the victory. Very rarely have people messed up at the tail-end of the “Challenge’ finale and still won like Cara & Darrell did. They might have been another statistic if not for Cara.

Episode Summary in Five Words or Less: Champs beat Pros.
