The Challenge: Champs vs. Stars - Episode 6

By James Bullock May 25, 2018 - 8:10 PM print

Previously on “The Challenge Champs vs. Stars”: The Blue Team continued their winning ways even after Ashley tried to sabotage her team; leading to Wes being put into the Elimination Round with Devin that resulted in the latter going home.

The episode kicks off with Daniel calling all the newbie Stars like Lil Mama, Selita & Brooke together to talk about how they need work with the Stars’ best interests. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Ashley is tearing Wes apart verbally for letting the Stars overtake his game plans. When it’s time for this week’s Team Challenge, Wes comes in with his hands literally tied behind his back so he can state he is POW. CT, on the other hand, is just feeling more feminine than ever surrounded by so many ladies on his team. Host The Miz introduces “Crossfire”: a game where each team must use slingshots to knock down their opposing team’s tower before the other – a tower represented by the four competitors out of the game hanging above their respective tower. Louise comes up with a great strategy of being a loader for her team while the guys send off ball after ball; leading to Kailah – who was called “weak” and someone who “folded under pressure” by Lil Mama – being the first to go down.

Ashley, seeing the Red Team faltering, decides to kick down her own tower!

Jozea smartly uses his position atop the boxes by placing himself on the top of tower so his weight can keep his tower from toppling over. It comes down to Drake and Jozea’s towers with people fighting over balls including Ashley trying to take a ball from her own teammate in Wes; and others just running out of steam in hopes of finally winning. Unfortunately even sabotage can’t stop Tony from landing the game-winning shot.

With the Red Team losing again, the group has to decide should be this week’s LVP. No one can come up with any definitive answer for LVP while Wes opts to nominate Drake for MVP since he hasn’t been given that opportunity. Tony is completely confused as he stole the show during this week’s Challenge. Tony doesn’t take kindly to this decision at all, causing him to question if this is really Team Blue or just Team Stars. But things aren’t good on the Red Team as well as the votes are split for LVP between Kailah and Lil Mama with the alliances being obvious between Champs and Stars. Unfortunately for the Red Team, the winner of last week’s Elimination Round in Wes gets to be the tiebreaker. Wes, being a Champ, can’t help but throw Lil Mama in to take on obvious snake in the henhouse in Ashley. But just as important as the announcement of who will do battle, Drake has the Power Play ability that will be open to use right before the Elimination Round – “Free Your Mind”: a game where the competitors will have to escape a barred pod while wearing a cylinder featuring poles sticking out of it that will hinder their progress. Before the game can begin, The Miz announces this week’s Power Play gives Drake the ability to switch one of the LVPs for another player be it on their team or the other. Drake’s decision is Kailah replacing Lil Mama. The game begins and it’s obvious this is a lot more complicated than it looks.

Kailah makes it out halfway, forgetting about the pipes behind her. With the help of Shane, Kailah figures out the puzzle.

The Miz reveals that the Blue Team can actually save Ashley, but they decide not to; sending Ashley home after she earned $3200 for her charity (The Malala Fund). But The Miz has another little announcement as the teams going forward will feature only duos.

Episode High(s): The Lines in the Sand. After trying to lie to themselves over the Stars and Champs being able to work together things really imploded here as the Stars really went out of their way to ensure they survived on both sides of the plate. Ashley, seeing the writing on the wall, did everything in her power to save herself and the Champs; yet failed. With the announcement that it’ll be duos going forward these divisions should be even more emphatic; but for now it was a fantastic example of the Champs finally coming up short in their own game.

Episode Low(s): POW Wes. Always for the dramatics, Wes spent a majority of this episode playing up the fact he no longer has the power edge in his team; thus working under direst until he had his moment to shine by being the tiebreaker. While Wes reveling in his newfound power was typical, the prior moments of him feeling sorry for himself (more than likely a way to trick the Blue Team Stars into thinking he’ll submit to their whims) was just plain annoying.

MVP: Daniel ($2,550)

Team Challenge Winner: Blue Team (3-2)

Eliminations: Arian (Episode 1); Kam (Episode 2); Hennessy (Episode 3); Anessa (Episode 4); Devin (Episode 5); Ashley (Episode 6)

Most Embarrassing Athletic Display: Ashley. Having someone throw a Challenge isn’t something out of the ordinary, but there was a time when people who did sabotage a Challenge would try to be coy about things not to draw attention to themselves. Ashley, on the other hand, just went rouge without a second thought that maybe if she played along she would still be around. .

Competitor of the Week: Tony. It was certainly “Tony Time” as Tony came in and obliterated those towers to win the Team Challenge for his team this week. It’s sad that he didn’t stand up for himself and fight for the spot of MVP as it was his team after all.

Episode Summary in Five Words or Less: Stars are shining bright.
