The Challenge: Champs vs. Stars - Episode 6

By James Bullock Dec 31, 2017 - 8:57 AM print

Previously on The Challenge: After Wes’ attempt at trying to start an alliance with Johnny Bananas failed, Wes took the MVP spot and forced Bananas to enter an Elimination Round where the Champ defeated Riff Raff to send the rap star home.

It’s actually all fun & games as the episode begins with Aneesa trying to get Josh Murray’s clothes off. Unfortunately for Aneesa it’s her top coming off when Justina tries to get the two to make-out. But it isn’t long before the time for Champs and Stars to collide in this week’s Team Challenge, “Flag Pole”: a game where each competitor will pole vault into the nearby lake to swim to a buoy while grabbing flags along the way to deduct from their respective team’s overall time. UFC star Michelle Waterson is up first, grabs a couple of flags and swims like a fish. CT from the Champs does a very good job swimming, but couldn’t get a single flag. Ariane Andrew follows Michelle’s lead by grabbing flags, but her speed is definitely lacking. Champ Zach not only grabs a flag, but also smokes the swimming portion with a better time than anyone.

When Kim Glass gets her chance she pulls off the best time thus far for The Stars with a four-second deduction thanks to flag grabbing. Tori doesn’t do the best or the worst, but Josh Murray for The Stars just smokes the competition with the best time overall thanks to a three second deduction. Aneesa does a solid job as well; as does Justina Valentine. With Josh having the chance to go two times due to The Stars having one less competitor, he gets a second go-round after Emily’s less than thirty second swim, Matt Rife’s great performance that almost put him under twenty seconds, and Wes living up to his name of being the “human fish”.

Johnny Bananas concludes the game with an average performance compared to his competitors. When host The Miz brings everyone together, he reveals Josh and Justina were the fastest swimmers overall, but a ten-second difference seals the fate of The Stars as The Champs pull off another win. When The Miz asks who is the MVP for The Champs, Bananas swerves everyone by speaking up for his team like the ladies did last time when they nominated Wes without Bananas’ knowledge; handing the title to CT for this week. No girl is safe on The Champs’ team while CT’s charity (F.I.G.H.T.) gets $5000 and the man himself has to choose the person who enters the Elimination Round with one female Star. Kim is the person with the target on her back from both perspectives as she’s feared for being a strong competitor while is beneficial if the finale is a team event. Kim tries to make a final plea to Matt before the nomination while the Champs’ guys try to convince themselves putting Aneesa in is the easiest thing to do. When Elimination nominations start, Aneesa flips out that she’s going in without any heads up.

It comes down to Matt in voting to tie up the score between nominating Kim or Ariane and mister “Wild N’ Out” drops the bomb to vote for Andrew. With everything tied up, The Miz reveal The Champs decide who will take on Aneesa no matter whom. After a little deliberation, CT reveals Michelle will be entering The Arena with Aneesa for “Cage Match”: a race to escape a ten-foot-tall square steel cage after attaining a knotted rope placed in the center of the field. It doesn’t take long before Michelle shows her wrestling ability after Aneesa grabs the rope from her opponent.

Michelle’s plan is obvious: grind Aneesa done until she has no wind left. Waterson loses her shoes when trying to free herself from an ankle lock after tossing the rope across the ring. Michelle makes a break for it; leading to a definitive struggle.

Though Aneesa loses, The Miz promises her charity (American Foundation For Suicide Prevention) gets a sizeable donation as the rest of her old teammates and competitors prepare for the impending finale.

Episode High(s): Oh-So-Close. Some incredible competition with this episode as The Stars came so close to finally pulling off that first victory in a Team Challenge. Then the stunner came around and Michelle was forced into an unwanted situation in a very familiar environment that allowed her to turn the tides for her team while still leaving the big question of whether or not The Stars can come together again.

Episode Low(s): Communication. Both sides had communication issues in this episode as The Champs had Bananas make CT the MVP out of nowhere while The Stars tried to sway Matt and eventually sent Aneesa packing. The controversy that came from each moment was fun, but seeing the guys not give Aneesa a heads up about what they had planned and Matt not standing up and telling his alliance his plans beforehand always leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

MVP: CT ($5000)

Team Challenge Winner: Champs (6-0)

Eliminations: Cory (Episode 1); Camila (Episode 1); Jenna (Episode 2); Terrell Owens (Episode 3); Ashley (Episode 3); Romeo Miller (Episode 4); Shawn Jordan (Episode 4); Riff Raff (Episode 5); Aneesa (Episode 6).

Most Embarrassing Athletic Display: Matt Rife. A grown man jumped onto a pole that was supposed to tumble over when his body weight touched it. This same grown man didn’t topple over and was seen struggling trying to tip his pole because, for some reason, his body weight was less than everyone else’s and was left flailing in the air to complete his goal. That grown man was Matt Rife.

Competitor of the Week: Michelle Waterson. “The Karate Hottie” waxed off when she freed herself from Aneesa to climb a cage and win it all for her team. What really made the situation impressive was the fact Waterson wasn’t even supposed to be in the Elimination Round, yet pulled it all together and won when her back was against the wall.

Episode Summary in Five Words or Less: Expect the unexpected.
