The Challenge: Champs vs. Stars 3 - Episode 2

By James Bullock Apr 27, 2018 - 11:45 AM print

Previously on “The Challenge Champs vs. Stars”: In the first Team Challenge of the season, Tony’s team overcame a group led by CT after the revelations that this season would feature mixed teams. The mixing caused some disruption between the Champs and Stars as Tony’s team threw Casper Smart into an eventual successful Elimination Round against Arian Foster while the Red Team opted to not save Foster from returning to the show.

This episode picks up right where the last left off as Brooke Hogan tries to console Selita Ebanks after the latter was cursed at by Kailah. While the athletes are working out and Brooke provides a shoulder to cry on, Wes decides to start showcasing his politicking skills by trying to use the budding relationship between Kam and Daniel Gibson to his advantage by getting him to see the Champs aren’t so bad. But none of that will matter when it actually comes to the battlefield as today the teams will take on each other in “Over the Edge”: a gigantic, human-sized game of shuffleboard with one person pushing their partner sitting atop the disc and if they knock an opposing person off the platform it’s an extra five points going toward the intended twenty. The opening minutes are pretty calm and peaceful with the Blue Team scoring a solid seven points in the first round. But it’s round two that turns things around as Devin is sent right into Casper for five points.

The next moment of controversy abounds when Tony tries to save himself from falling into the water by putting his hand on the platform; giving the Red Team another five points. Lil Mama repping the Red Team is pushed right to the edge; arching backwards to avoid falling. The Blue Team’s goal is to knock Mama off, but can’t get someone far enough. Hennessey steps up for her team in and effort to put Mama into the water – she fails. When the third round begins, Lil Mama sends Selita all the way across the platform into the water by accident. Hennessey pulls a Tony and gets disqualified, Brooke gets knocked into the water by Wes, and Shane shoves CT into fellow teammate Ashley to push her into the three-point mark to put their team over the top with twenty-plus points for the victory.

When it comes to deliberating who is this week’s MVP and who should be going into the Elimination Round, the Stars try to step up and get one of their own as the MVP and the Champs outnumber them by putting Ashley up as MVP for this female elimination day. When it comes to the Blue Team, Hennessey actually volunteers herself with the underlying that she believes everyone is out to get her. Ashley is officially named the MVP when the nominations started, but Selita & Lil Mama are quick to point out that they weren’t in the room to even vote for the MVP, let alone voting for Brooke as the MVP. Tori & Tony decide to motivate Brooke by dressing up as Hulk Hogan!

When it comes to the Blue Team’s LVP, Louise switches up the vote by not throwing out Hennessy’s name and opting to go for Kam with the intent of splitting up the alliance between Kam & Daniel. In the twist of a lifetime, Daniel actually says Kam’s name to make her question what they really have in this game. Casper, being the winner of the last Elimination Round, gets the final say and stands with his fellow Stars by nominating Kam for a battle with Brooke. To top off everything, MVP Ashley gets the opportunity to use the Power Play to bench someone for the next Challenge. Ashley chooses Wes. Kam isn’t hearing anything of what Daniel has to say before she enters the Arena for “Rock & Roll”: a tug of war featuring the two battling over a platform that must end up on the opposite side of a line representing each team. Round one sees Brooke showing that Hogan muscle; surviving a near loss before dragging Kam across the field for the first point. Kam can’t stop the power of Brooke-A-Mania and avoid elimination.

Once again, host The Miz asks if the Blue Team wants to save Kam. Unlike the Red Team, the united front to not save someone isn’t the case. Daniel once again goes against helping Kam and is the tie-breaking vote to send Kam packing. Brooke gets $500 for her charity (LUCY Outreach) while Louise revels in her accomplishments of removing a Champ from their team. Wes recognizes Louise is utilizing his play book to run the game.

Episode High(s): The Tides are Turning. Two very big moments happened this week thanks to the Team Challenge and the Elimination Round as the Red Team not only gained a victory, but also unintentionally planted seeds of dissension that caused a riff in the Blue Team further than last week’s Elimination Round when Casper won. It’ll be incredibly interesting to see if the Stars and Champs ever find common ground, but by the looks of it right now that won’t happen any time soon.

Episode Low(s): Damn, Daniel. Or maybe it should be “Kam Done Dirty” cause “Killa Kam” was really treated badly by Daniel on this episode. Not only did the guy vote her into the Elimination Round without telling her ahead of time, he also opted to not save her when he had the chance. It’s bad enough to embarrass a person you seemingly have feelings for. It’s even worse when you don’t see the forest from the trees in a game like this as saving Kam could’ve been a turning point in truly aligning his team of Champs & Stars.

MVP: Ashley ($2000)

Team Challenge Winner: Red Team (1-1)

Eliminations: Arian (Episode 1); Kam (Episode 2)

Most Embarrassing Athletic Display: Hennessy. While it’s always great to have a jokester around, Hennessy failed to live up to her own hype by trying to shove Selita into the water before getting herself disqualified. To top it off, she volunteered herself for the Elimination Round and then decided not to name herself when the time came. But who can blame her for the latter – at she gave everyone laugh before things went downhill.

Competitor of the Week: Brooke. Though Ashley was named MVP and even got the winning point for her team, it was simply by sitting on a disc and being pushed. Brooke, on the other hand, pushed people to points, survived the Elimination Round, and did the saintly thing of consoling Selita. God bless Brooke, brother!

Episode Summary in Five Words or Less: New player, same playbook.
