The Challenge: Champs vs. Stars 3 - Episode 3

By James Bullock May 4, 2018 - 10:19 AM print

Previously on “The Challenge Champs vs. Stars”: The Red Team turned things around by winning the second Team Challenge, but issues between the Champs and Stars supporting their fellow competitors started fracturing the actual teams leading into an Elimination Round where Brooke Hogan defeated Kam and her team refused to save her.

Brooke decides to have a little speech following her victory, feeling pride in finally pulling off a victory in something athletic just like her father. While Brooke is relishing in victory, Casper is plotting against his team’s leader in Tony for throwing him into the first Elimination Round. Casper has a chance to gain some power heading into this week’s Team Challenge, “Release the Rainbow”: a puzzle where people will be attached to colored ropes wrapped around a jungle gym that must be untangled to form a logo. Wes is benched due to Ashley utilizing the Power Play to put him out of game. Unfortunately for Wes he can’t get his team properly prepared before the game begins; leading to miscommunications aplenty when the game begins including Aneesa & Tori getting tangled with each other.

Casper rushes through the game, pulling his rope to the solution station without realizing he can’t return and help his teammates. The Red Team members, on the other hand, complete the untangling process and stick around to make sure everyone gets their ropes undone before moving on. While the Red Team are a well-oiled machine with moments like CT letting his teammates use his back as a springboard, the Blue Team just can’t keep any type of momentum without Casper there to help and end up losing in the end.

When it comes to deliberating who is this week’s MVP and who should go into the Elimination Round, the Red Team comes together in making CT the MVP promising to save one of their guys if that person loses in the Elimination Round. Shane secretly volunteers himself to CT & Devin so it appears they are working with the Stars while ensuring he stays in the game. The Blue Team’s deliberation moment goes left incredibly fast when Hennessey tries to stand up for the Stars on their team while Tony wants to convince everyone that he’ll lead his team to victory by volunteering himself into & winning the Elimination Round. Hennessey holds up the official nomination session with no explanation as to why. When Devin calls her out for being selfish by taking everyone’s time lightly, Hennessy snaps as she believes Devin is disrespecting her for telling the truth.

The producers, Lil Mama, Casper & Louise eventually calm Hennessy down & brings her back into the nomination session where CT is officially made the MVP while attainting the Immunity Power Play to protect any lady from next week’s Elimination Round. Before stating who will be immune to the Elimination Round, CT reveals Shane will be entering the Elimination Round to take on Tony after the Blue Team’s leader got a unanimous vote. Selita asked to be immune from next week’s Elimination Round and got her wish. While everyone is still reeling from Hennessy’s blowout, Brooke and Ashley bond over their family problems being aired for the world to see as last season saw Ashley having to quit the show following the death of her father. Brooke, whose family imploded on TV, reveals that her dad is so far away from her in distance they only see each other twice a year. As if that isn’t serious enough, host in The Miz reveals Hennessy has quit the show; putting the Champs to Stars ratio back at 1:1. Tony and Shane enter the Arena to perform “Throwing Shade”: a giant game of cornhole featuring the competitors breaking boxes to attain the projectiles needs to break the six faces on the stand. After a great streak of connections, Tony starts missing. Tony eventually finds what works and pulls out the victory to save himself and earn $500 for his charity, “Hands on NOLA”.

And, as promised, the Red Team opts to save Shane unanimously even though some of the Stars are skeptical that the Champs are actually working for the betterment of their team. Even The Miz notes that it seems suspicious that the Champs are now working on a united front. This Miz is right as both sides are thinking the Champs survive and pick off the Stars one by one.

Episode High(s): Background Politics. With the last two seasons of this “Challenge” spin-off focusing on a team of Stars trying to outdo a team of “Challenge” Champs on the battlefield while saving their own skin being the norm because them categorized teams were separate, this time the mixture has caused a widespread politically shift that is incredibly intriguing especially when it comes to the Red Team. Victory seems to have dulled the senses of the Red Team’s Stars and it means for great TV as the Champs are plotting without them knowing – meaning things could backfire or go as planned for the Champs when it’s all said & done.

Episode Low(s): A Hit of Hennessy. So we’ve finally had the season’s first emotional breakdown with Hennessy getting upset and quitting. In the heat of the momentum it’s always hard to tell who’s in the wrong, but Hennessy obviously did everyone wrong and got called out for it – leading to her blowing up and eventually quitting even though it wasn’t that big of a deal. Hennessy’s quite a character and this is a disappointing end to her run.

MVP: CT ($1950 – F.I.G.H.T.)

Team Challenge Winner: Red Team (2-1)

Eliminations: Arian (Episode 1); Kam (Episode 2); Hennessy (Episode 3)

Most Embarrassing Athletic Display: Casper. It’s amazing that the person who finished the Team Challenge first would be the biggest embarrassment to his team this week, but that’s exactly what Casper was for the Blue Team. By becoming obsessed with getting Tony back for him being thrown into the Elimination Round, Casper potentially cost his team the victory during this week’s Team Challenge.

Competitor of the Week: CT. This week’s MVP was the complete opposite of Casper as he finished untangling his ropes and stuck around to make sure all of his allies finished so they could all complete the Team Challenge. Add that to the fact he was with open ears as Shane threw out the plot to save all the Champs for his team that could pay off in the end.

Episode Summary in Five Words or Less: Crying over spilled Hennessy.
