The Challenge: Champs vs. Stars 3 - Episode 9

By James Bullock Jun 18, 2018 - 8:05 AM print

Previously on “The Challenge Champs vs. Stars”: With Louise & Casper winning the Team Challenge they were able to purge the game of two teams, choosing Shane & Brooke and Tori & Lil Mama.

After a discussion between Wes and Louise regarding how the latter has taken the game from her “Challenge” teacher, Drake & Kailah mix it up regarding how far they’ve made it in the game (while CT & Tony make fun of the budding relationship), and Louise & Casper talk about their strategy for what needs to happen next if they can win the next Team Challenge, host The Miz welcomes everyone to “Text Tile”: a game where each team will have to complete a crossword puzzle where the pieces are inside a box container that not only has to be cracked open, it also has to be pushed across the beach while one of the teammates is atop the box. When the game starts it’s Casper & Louise taking the lead incredibly quick. Drake, on the other hand, starts burning out while Kailah tries to keep her cool. Kailah decides to replace Drake and push the box herself.

The other teams open up their boxes, making this a race to simply fill the board. Wes and Kailah have the same strategy of cheating by just copying everyone else, Casper & Louise attempt to do a one answer completion by filling up the board with all the answers at one time, but CT & Tony are too far ahead to be stopped; putting them in the finale – time to celebrate!

When they return to the house, Wes is befuddled that Kailah is in talks of being saved over him considering both CT & Tony are his friends. Wes enters a negotiation process with Tony & CT with the latter being disappointed with Wes becoming a sniveling mess of a man lately. Kailah works her butt off in an attempt to avoid the Elimination Round, but when it’s time for Elimination nominations Kailah & Drake are voted in to compete against the MVP-chosen opponents. Tony, who admits he wants to marry his girlfriend in the very near future, gets not only money for his charity & a vacation by being made MVP courtesy of CT, but also the decision to send in Louise & Casper for the Elimination Round. But Tony has one more decision to make as his Power Play of “Sabotage” – a Power Play that won’t be revealed until the finale (hopefully it’ll teach the person responsible for the information blocks how to spell).

The final Elimination Round of the season sees the teammates having to jump 1000 tapping a button to drop a block of ice holding frozen clothing that must be put on before they do another 1000 jumps while cold as ice. Kailah starts breaking down physically after 400 or so jumps while Casper & Louise refuse to stop until they drop the ice block. The episode ends on a cliffhanger with both teams trying to unravel the frozen clothes after Kailah & Drake eventually get those first 1000 jumps.

Episode High(s): Race to the Final. With the season coming quickly to a close, everyone was on pins & needles during this episode in an attempt to either win a Team Challenge or convince others not to say their names. It was very interesting to see Wes & Kailah obviously politicking while Louise & Casper quietly accepted their fates with the intent of coming back, and CT & Tony celebrated pulling out the most important win of the game thus far (dads dancing is the best).

Episode Low(s): Wes’ Woes. While understandably upset with his lack of continued power throughout the game, Wes has been something of a blubbering mess lately; letting his lack of control convince him to be submissive while pouting – it hasn’t been a good look for Wes. Oh, and whomever is in charge of spell checking, “sabotage” is not spelled “sabatoge”. Probably Jozea was asked how do you spell “sabotage”.

MVP: Tony ($7,700)

Team Challenge Winner: CT & Tony

Eliminations: Arian (Episode 1); Kam (Episode 2); Hennessy (Episode 3); Anessa (Episode 4); Devin (Episode 5); Ashley (Episode 6); Jozea (Episode 8); Shane (Episode 8); Brooke (Episode 8); Selita (Episode 8); Tori (Episode 8); Lil Mama (Episode 8)

Most Embarrassing Athletic Display: Drake. Not a lot of people can push a giant crate with a person atop it, but you should be able to if you think you’re cut out for “The Challenge”. At least he redeemed himself (thus far) in the Elimination Round by proving he can jump (jump).

Competitor of the Week: Tony. Really this could’ve gone to either Tony or CT as the two worked incredibly well together to win the Team Challenge; flipping boxes & solving puzzles to establish themselves as the first team to gain a guaranteed spot in the finale.

Episode Summary in Five Words or Less: Crossed words at the crossroads.
