The Challenge Dirty 30 - Episode 16

By James Bullock Nov 3, 2017 - 8:53 AM print

Previously on The Challenge: CT & Cara Maria not only redeemed themselves by beating their fellow Redemption House inhabitants, but also stamped their respective spots in the finale alongside Jordan & Tori, but there’s still a chance for two more finale competitors.

While CT, Cara Maria, Tori & Jordan get the chance to reflect on everything that’s occurred thus far on their respective paths to the finale while riding on a boat that’ll take them to a relaxing area where they can temporarily live in luxury and watch the remaining players (Derrick, Hunter, Tony, Kailah, Jenna & Camila) fight for that last spot in the finale by playing the game “Snaking Your Way Back in” – a Daily Challenge where the competing genders have to shimmy across a bar while hanging from a rope saddle, switch to another rope saddle in midair and dropping into the water with the hope of reaching the finish line first. The guys are up first and the injured Hunter is suffering from his hurt hand & wrist because grip strength is highly important for success in this Challenge. Tony isn’t doing much better. When Derrick sees Tony finally find the rhythm, he puts it into overdrive to hit that water and swim to the finish line.

When it’s time for the girls to go, Camila figures out that by standing on the front rope you can scoot the back rope to forward; thus moving your whole body toward the finish line. For some reason, Jenna & Kailah never look at Camila to see her strategy and it costs them the game.

Other than Tori, all the competitors are veteran players coming into the final Challenge. The next morning, TJ Lavin arrives to remind everyone what they’re fighting for: One million dollars (3rd place [one guy-one girl each]: $15,000; 2nd place: $35,000; 1st place: $450,000) for finishing in a finale that’ll happen in Argentina. But it will come at a cost as he’s promising it will be more grueling than any finale in “Challenge” history – which is quite frightening to think about considering recent “Challenge” finales have featured people literally climbing mountains, sleeping in condemned train stations while fighting of giant rats, and eating the most disgusting “food” imaginable.

The finalists arrive at their destination and instead of getting a night free of no concerns, TJ sends a video message stating they have to go back to the airport with the intent of jumping 20,000 feet out of plane. Cara hears this and is understandably frightened. The next morning arrives and Cara is crying by the time they start the plane, but she gets in with the belief it’ll be worth it in the end (well, actually she has no choice because her jumping buddy pushes her so she & he can complete this). Unfortunately for Jordan he takes the roughest landing possible.

Paramedics come running to an obviously hurt competitor. Though Jordan says he can walk it off he admits something is wrong with his knee. But Jordan refuses to quit even if he has to run tepidly. Camila & Cara are the last to land and have to be driven to the starting line where a single phone awaits with another message from TJ where Lavin informs the six that they must appease the spirits of a land that has seen some brutal stuff. They have to run through a maze of ruins to offer a stone and at that point the teams are formed depending what guy-girl pair reach the offering destination. Derrick is the first male with Cara joining him. Jordan & Camila team up while CT & Tori come together for this grueling relay race of picking up incredibly heavy stones and carry them down a hill to return them to the grounds they started at.

The goal is thirty and CT proves to be the best in carry mass amounts, but Jordan shows incredible intelligence by finding a shortcut. The episode wraps up on a cliffhanger as every team is struggling to get those final rocks.

Episode High(s): The Finale Begins. It’s always so much fun watch “The Challenge” finale as you never know what’s going to happen, who will step up, and how far people will make it. With Jordan taking a nasty fall before it even began will definitely be a talking point throughout the entire finale. So far it seems like we’re in for a wild ride.

Episode Low(s): Go Big, Go Home. Probably one of the saddest realizations coming into this episode was just how much barrowed time Hunter was working with on that busted wrist. The sad part is he physically worked harder than almost everyone and still couldn’t make it to the finale – proving that sometimes hard work doesn’t pay off (a very real, yet disheartening lesson).

Daily Challenge Winners: Derrick & Camila

Eliminations: Darrell (Episode 5), Amanda (Episode 5), Devin (Episode 5), Latoya (Episode 5), Derrick H. (Episode 5), Briana (Episode 5), Ammo (Episode 6); Nicole (Episode 10); Marie (Episode 10); Cory (Episode 10); Nelson (Episode 11) Leroy (Episode 15); Veronica (Episode 15); Britni (Episode 15); Aneesa (Episode 15); Jemmye (Episode 15); Dario (Episode 15); Johnny Bananas (Episode 15); Hunter (Episode 16); Jenna (Episode 16); Kailah (Episode 16); Tony (Episode 16)

Most Embarrassing Athletic Display: Kailah & Jenna. The fact is they gave up the chance of being in the finale by simply not turning their heads. They made power plays that mostly paid off and seemed made for the finale, yet didn’t look at Camila during the heat of battle and lost it all in the end. All they had to do was stand!

Competitor of the Week: Jordan. It’s obvious Jordan is channeling Hunter’s toughness because he took one nasty spill after falling out of an airplane. In a do or die situation, Jordan, thus far has done and could be in the lead before it’s all said & done.

Episode Summary in Five Words or Less: Tuck, rock & roll.
