The Challenge: Dirty 30 - Episode 2

By James Bullock Jul 29, 2017 - 4:25 PM print

Previously on The Challenge: 29 of the dirtiest of the dirty have come to compete with the intention of winning 300-plus thousand dollars before Ashley M voluntarily left and Darrell, Simone, Amanda, Devin, Shane, & Latoya were apparently sent home by Daily Challenge winners Jenna & Cory. Little does anyone know the six eliminated are actually sent to the Redemption House.

The show picks up right where the last left off as “Challenge” host TJ Lavin enters the Redemption house to inform the six men & women that that they have the opportunity to reenter the house in the near future.

In the actual house, CT finally arrives after having trouble getting through customs. Briana (a former “Challenge” competitor from “Rivals III”) also comes into the game as she replaces Ashley. While CT and Briana are getting situated, Cory’s walking around talking with the girls that he’s already hooked up with and even initiating a make-out session with Aneesa. As if that isn’t enough, Nelson & Jemmye catch Cory and Camila on the beach together. Kailah, the girl between Aneesa & Camila when it comes to Cory’s sex-capades, finds out and starts plotting to get rid of the man who broke her heart a “Challenge” ago. Johnny Bananas officially dubs Cory the third “Bushwhacker”.

But all the fun & games are over for the day as the players still officially in the game playing a game known as “Cool Under Fire” where a set of twelve players per heat (six guys & six girls) are placed on a platform that slowly tilts forward in hopes of sending people thirty feet down into the water below. The competitors not on the platform get the chance to chuck rotten tomatoes at their prone victims in hopes of knocking them down quickly because the first two guys & girls who go down lose the challenge. It doesn’t take long to find out what guys are up for elimination as Derrick H. & Cory drop almost immediately with Jemmye between them.

Veronica is the next to fall, putting her in the elimination nomination position before everyone but Cara Maria, Nicole, Derrick K. & Nelson stay on the platform long enough to win the first heat. The original tomato shooters replace their targets to see who drops first – none other than Jenna, Leroy, Britini & Dario to put them all up for elimination nomination. Tony drops second to last to give Bananas & CT the win for the males in the second heat. Aneesa grabs onto the safety rope to almost get herself disqualified because she believed the game was over. Aneesa lets go fast enough to not be DQ’ed just as Camila drops into the water – leaving Aneesa and Tori as the female winners of Heat 2. When TJ does the wrap up, he informs everyone about Aneesa’s actions and gives the win to Camila instead.

The winners get to choose one guy and one girl to go into the Elimination Round potentially alongside the other eight first water droppers. While rookie Derrick K. is fearful for his survival, the vets are looking at Cory as their truest target. While tensions are high because of potential eliminations, the Redemption House has problems due to Shane & Latoya refusing to grease Simone’s scalp (them dreads, tho). Over the course of an hour, things break loose between Simone & Shane after an apparent argument turns into physical altercation that saw Shane slap Simone, Simone scratch Shane’s face, Shane bite Devin when he tried to break it up, and Simone waving around a broken champagne bottle. Shane and Simone have to go home due to the violence.

The Daily Challenge winners huddle up and decide who should go into the Elimination Round with Briana, Derrick K. and Cory’s names coming up from the men, but Camila & Tori defend their men to the end. When it comes to the actual nomination session, Briana gets a unanimous decision for entering the Elimination Round. While a majority of the male veterans decide to put Cory on the potential chopping block, Camila just throws out Hunter’s name. The other girls side with their male counterparts and Cory has to step up to plate alongside the eight losers for this cliffhanger of an elimination nomination.

Episode High(s): The Old Guard Riseth. It’s crazy because the last episode it appeared there wouldn’t be many if any alliances this season, but that seems to not be the case since CT arrived as the true “Challenge” veterans are gunning for new vets and rookies alike. What’s really fascinating is Camila’s place in the middle of it as she hasn’t fully sided with the people who everyone expected her to align with come this situation. It’ll be very interesting to see how this all plays out in the coming weeks.

Episode Low(s): The Fight We Didn’t See. It’s very rare for the cameras to not catch everything (just look at Camila & Cory), but then there are times when something happens that changes the game and isn’t shown to the world. What wasn’t shown was pretty disgraceful from a vocalized summary alone. It’s sad something like this (gender violence) happened.

Daily Challenge Winners: Cara Maria, Nicole, Derrick K., Nelson, Camila, Tori, CT & Johnny Bananas

Eliminations: N/A

Redemption House: Darrell, Amanda, Devin, Latoya

Most Embarrassing Athletic Display: Derrick H. It’s one thing to be blasted with tomatoes & take a rotten one to the mouth (or in the case of his girlfriend, Tori, to the vagina) and drop due to sheer shock. It’s an entirely different thing to practically drop at the sound of the horn. Derrick hasn’t put out the best performances thus far and his days could easily be numbered.

Competitor of the Week: CT. Way to come in guns blazing. Yes, all CT had to do was sit on a tilting platform and take a barrage of tomatoes, but have you seen him recently; the dude is huge. For him to make something much smaller men were failing to accomplish look easy is a testament to not only his physical capabilities, but also his mental strength still being consistent with the legend of his youth.

Episode Summary in Five Words or Less: Hanging tough.
