The Challenge: Dirty 30 - Episode 3

By James Bullock Aug 4, 2017 - 3:37 PM print

Previously on The Challenge: Arrivals and exits were the name of the game as CT and Briana made their entrances, with the prior doing incredibly well in the Daily Challenge while the other was nominated for elimination. In the Redemption House, tempers flared before things go physical between Shane and Simone that resulted in both being sent home.

The show picks up right where the last left off as Cory tried to figure out who is going to enter the Elimination Round with him while Briana laments over her being thrown into a potential failure because she simply came in as a replacement. It’s time to enter The Presidio for those up for elimination. The other seven losers of the daily challenge enter the arena alongside Cory and Briana so they can pull Xs. If a person pulls two Xs they have the opportunity to officially send in one of the single X pickers of the same sex into the Elimination Round. For the guys, Dario picks the double Xs with the choice between Derrick H. & Leroy coming down to loyalty in saving Leroy. When it comes to the girls, Veronica picks the two Xs on the first try after proclaiming her natural instincts kicked in. With three girls up for nomination, Veronica picks rookie Britni – Briana’s friend.

The first Elimination Round is titled “Balls to the Wall” – a game featuring poles sticking through walls in small boxes. The twist is on the other side of the wall and these polls will be balls of fire that when the staffs are pulled will collide through the walls. The first person to get every pole through their room’s wall wins. The boys are up first and Cory starts off fast. The lowest poles, however, it seems the harder to get any leverage for Derrick. This ultimately costs him as Cory takes the victory.

No one is happy about Cory winning because his plans for coming after veterans, and Tori has lost her boyfriend to the first elimination. With Briana and Britni stepping into their boxes. The game starts off pretty even until Britni hit the nitrous and just plows through the walls until it comes down to both girls struggling to get the last staff through the wall from the same position. Just as Briana slightly slows down, Britni drives the final pole to victory.

Of course Veronica is worried about Britni retaliating while Tori is planning to come down on everyone with a vengeance. While this is going on, Derrick H. & Briana enter the Redemption House to the surprise of everyone. But there could be more joining in the near future as the daily challenge comes the next day featuring the remaining competitors standing in a historic bull ring to take each other on in “Battle Royale” – a challenge featuring two-four teams (two teams for each gender) running through each other courtesy of the small opening in the middle of a gigantic X placed in the bull ring to grab five of their opponents’ rings off a pole and take them to the other side of the arena. With twenty-two people, two competitors will automatically be sent into the Elimination Round if they don’t get picked. Dario and Kailah are the team captains and both have different strategies with the latter picking big people while Kailah sticks with quicker people. Ammo & Nicole will enter the Presidio as they were not picked for either team. The men are up first and the collisions are crazy after the obvious collective pile up. It’s a blowout for Dario’s team.

The ladies are up next and everyone thinks Aneesa is the CT of this round. Dario’s girls just push everyone backwards before a few girls start filtering out while Aneesa proves everyone right.

It comes down to one ring between, ironically enough, Veronica and Britni. Instead of turning this into a relay race, Veronica tries to overpower Britni; pushing her back before making a break for the pole to place her ring. It becomes nothing short of a photo finish with host TJ Lavin informing everyone that after checking the tapes it was almost less than half a second difference between winning and losing with Team Dario pulling out the overall victory – putting Team Kailah in position for elimination.

Episode High(s): Coming Back to Bite. One of the most interesting aspect of any “Challenge” season is the game plays between the actual challenges – the alliances formed, broken & teased, moments of treachery, and potential plans for payback. This episode had all of those aforementioned things in spades with the potential of veterans being taken down by the people they intended to get rid of not going along with the plan. That’s not even mentioning the anticipation in regards to who comes out of the Redemption House.

Episode Low(s): Unable to Compete. It sucks being picked last on team. It’s even worse when you don’t get picked at all. Due to odd planning, this episode’s Daily Challenge saw two people sit out and not have the opportunity to compete – something that is always a disappointing sight to see.

Daily Challenge Winners: Aneesa, Cara Maria, Cory, Dario, Marie, Camila, Tori, CT, Leroy, Hunter & Veronica.

Eliminations: N/A

Redemption House: Darrell, Amanda, Devin, Latoya, Derrick H., Briana

Most Embarrassing Athletic Display: Tony. Poor Tony made a bad decision during this episode’s Daily Challenge when he got caught in the same vicinity as CT in a very small opening. Tony, who isn’t a small guy, got bucked around like a baby on the back of a German Shepard.

Competitor of the Week: Dario. While Cory, Britni and CT & Aneesa could be considered the best players of the week, the fact is sometimes brains means more than brawn in “The Challenge”. Dario stacked the deck against Kailah in the smartest way possible and it worked out in his team’s favor. It might’ve looked simple in plan, but the execution was potentially flawed. Instead, it turned out just as Dario hoped.

Episode Summary in Five Words or Less: Fiery retribution is to come.
