The Challenge: Dirty 30 - Episode 5

By James Bullock Aug 17, 2017 - 8:56 AM print

Previously on The Challenge: In the second Elimination Round of the season, Ammo and Kailah defeated Tony – whose drunken antics got him voted in – and Jenna respectively to potentially send them to the Redemption House without the knowledge of each remaining competitor.

It’s an obvious divide between the rest of the girls and Kailah following the Elimination Round. This lack of joy being around each other is perfect for this week’s Daily Challenge, “Man Overboard” – a game based around the simple premise off knocking one another off a rotating, circular platform into the water below. But there’s always a twist:

The Redemption House has emptied and they’re coming for war including recently “eliminated” competitors Tony and Jenna. The road to get from the House to the Challenge was incredibly awkward considering the first girls to enter the House were sent there by Jenna, Tony’s brother Shane got sent home for fighting with Simone, and names being thrown around about who is being gunned for if the returning competitors have their chance at revenge. Unfortunately for six out of eight Redemption House residents they will be going home if they can’t win this Daily Challenge. These one-on-one bouts start off with Devin vs. Darrell, and Devin shockingly goes forward instead of running. Both take a fall.

The first girls to battle are Latoya and Amanda. With both girls thinking about taking out Camila if they reenter the house, they try to use the patience and it ends with both girls rolling into the water with Latoya hitting first. Derrick H. & Tony battle to see who will take on Darrell in the finale; staying low until they, of course, both fall off.

The photo finish saw Derrick’s foot touch the water first. Jenna and Briana were the second set of ladies to collide, with Jenna giving the most dominant performance yet.

The men’s final between Darrell and Tony proves to be a test of endurance until they get the platform’s edge.

With Darrell hitting first, Tony reenters the house. Unlike the men’s final, Amanda gets a low as possible before getting Jenna’s back. Jenna reverses positions until she’s on top in full guard. Spinning around, Jenna literally kicks Amanda into the water.

There are some very happy people regarding the results; specifically Camila & Kailah seeing Jenna return while the likes of Jemmye lament over their inevitable. And then there are people like Marie trying to ensure that the returning players are gunning for her. But it’s not a one-sided situation as the girls make sure Jenna knows that Kailah’s days are numbered.

Episode High(s): Redemption Road. The moment finally arrived where the Redemption House emptied and the competitors finally came back to settle a score. The twist that they had to fight each other to earn those spots was fantastic. Even better than the fights were the reactions of both fear and excitement about the possibilities to come with Jenna & Tony back in the house.

Episode Low(s): Who Didn’t Make It In. This is more of a personal lowlight as the people I really wanted to see come back (Darrell & Amanda) didn’t make it. Having a strong competitor like Darrell back and Amanda gunning for Camila while have the ability to actually take her down would’ve been incredible. Unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be.

Daily Challenge Winners: Tony & Jenna.

Eliminations: Darrell (Episode 5), Amanda (Episode 5), Devin (Episode 5), Latoya (Episode 5), Derrick H. (Episode 5), Briana (Episode 5)

Most Embarrassing Athletic Display: Briana. The “Are You the One” star found herself in a bad predicament as she had to attempt to muscle the much larger and obviously stronger Jenna around. Kudos for her holding on as long as she could, but she got tossed arguably worst than anyone else who lost.

Competitor of the Week: Jenna. All the Redemption House inhabitants fought as hard as they could to reenter the game, but no one dominated the Daily Challenger like Jenna. She was the only person to not touch the water while pitching and kicking opponents to their figurative doom. Though she lost an Elimination Round, thus far it’s been her only moment of weakness.

Episode Summary in Five Words or Less: Fighter & redeemer.
