The Challenge: Dirty 30 - Episode 9

By James Bullock Sep 15, 2017 - 8:50 AM print

Previously on The Challenge: The Redemption House was open again as Cory and Aneesa joined Marie with the potential of making it back into the game while Camila and Tony put themselves in a good position to survive even though the latter might’ve ruined his relationship with his baby’s mother by, ironically enough, making-out with Camila during a drunken celebration.

Camila is fired up and, of course, drunk as hell. Seriously, how do you explain this?

Camila overhears a conversation featuring Leroy talking about the game and thinks she’s talking about her when he simply states people don’t want to take on other strong competitors in this game. While Camila just starts arguing with a man who is trying to simply tell her it’s all about the game she drops this racial gem,

Camila goes on a racist verbal rampage topped off by hitting Leroy with a pillow that was thrown at her by Johnny Bananas, and grabbing some weights in attempt to maybe bust some windows or even the black people she’s suddenly blaming for all the problems possibly in the world. The producers send her to a hotel, but not before Hurricane Camila destroys some dresser drawers. The next day arrives and Camila returns with no shoes on, makes a beeline to the bathroom without saying a word to anyone except Tony to figure out what happened the night before. When it’s time for the Elimination Round nomination, host TJ Lavin enters a tense situation to get interrupted by Leroy to find out if Camila is apologetic for her actions. They have a deep diminished talk with Camila admitting her wrongdoing and a need to change. Following such a powerful moment it’s time for voting and Nicole & Nelson get the automatic nominations from the winners of the last Daily Challenge.

In the Redemption House, Aneesa & Cory are chilling together like the couple they once were while Marie is stuck being a third wheel (or not wheel at all). Cory & Aneesa joking about potential controversy happening in the house is an understatement while everyone enters the Presidio for another Elimination Round. When it’s time to pull the “Double Cross” to decide the third & fourth competitors in this Elimination Round, Jordan gets the first pick and sends in Hunter when he somehow chooses the right “X”. Jenna follows Jordan’s lead, putting Britni in against Nicole for “Rampage” – a game where the competitors have to push their opponent down a ramp while fully attached to one another by their backs & legs.

The girls are up first and Nicole puts up a strong fight while scooting as much as possible, but Britni is able to keep her wits and send Nicole into the losers’ bracket.

The guys’ round is next and Hunter uses his strength to hook the side of the ramp to drag himself from near failure to win the first of potential three rounds. Unfortunately for Hunter, the first round possibly blows him up and Nelson takes the second round. Both men are exhausted by the third round, leading to a stalemate. Nelson slowly inches toward his side before dropping down for the victory to leave Nelson alone in his alliance.

Episode High(s): United Front. Like probably every viewer coming into this episode I expected it to focus on the fallout from the backseat antics of Camila & Tony, not a racial tirade from a drunken Brazilian who should know better. Like the situation with Jordan insulting the mentally handicapped earlier this season, the cast stood united in their support of not only Leroy, but all African-Americans who felt understandably insulted by Camila’s tirade. Hopefully this is a wakeup call for Camila and those like her that those hateful thoughts, words & actions are not tolerated by the masses.

Episode Low(s): KKCamila. Okay, I’m not going to go as far as to say Camila’s a full-blown racist, but the alcohol brings the darkest truths out of people. I don’t know what it is about this season with the things being said or coming out from people, but I hope this becomes a gigantic learning experience while stuff like this stops becoming the norm.

Daily Challenge Winners: N/A

Eliminations: Darrell (Episode 5), Amanda (Episode 5), Devin (Episode 5), Latoya (Episode 5), Derrick H. (Episode 5), Briana (Episode 5), Ammo (Episode 6)

Redemption House: Marie, Cory & Aneesa

Most Embarrassing Athletic Display: Camila. While Nicole, Hunter, Nelson & Britni fought their hardest against each other in an effort to last longer in the game, Camila was assaulting Leroy both verbally and with a pillow before going “Camilinator” on some dressers. While it didn’t happen in the confines of a Daily Challenge, the fact remains this whole episode was a moment of embarrassment for Camila.

Competitor of the Week: Nelson. No offence to Britni who did a great job defeating Nicole, but Nelson pulled off something of an upset in his Elimination Round as he took on a guy much larger and potentially stronger than him; meaning Nelson had to overcome a strength and size disadvantage in a game where both of those factors are a must to have over your opponent. Though the vets are strong in number there’s a good chance Nelson has what it takes to knock them out one by one.

Episode Summary in Five Words or Less: Fell into a racism barrel.
