The Challenge Dirty 30 - Reunion: Part 2

By James Bullock Nov 24, 2017 - 6:53 AM print

Previously on The Challenge: After some controversial moments including Shane not admitting his faults in his fight with Simone, and Tori cheating on Derrick with Jordan, it was revealed Tori & CT pulled off a third place win in the finale.

The episode picks up with a recap of some of the big moves made by Kailah & Jenna that resulted in them almost running the entire season when it came to the girls. There were also targets on their backs for being so good together including one Jemmye.

While Jemmye is forgiven for playing the game, people like Britni aren’t so welcomed as friends of “Kaina” as she speaks up as to why they don’t like Kailah for being stuck up & adamant about staying behind her bestie instead of getting to know people. While Jenna & Kailah were able to keep their alliance both on the show & off, the friendship between Camila & Cara Maria apparently dissolved this season. When Cara turns her attention to why she doesn’t like Kailah, Kailah cuts the promo of a lifetime on Cara.

According to Cara, Kailah punked out by sending her to the Redemption House instead of going head-to-head with her as promised. But things happened outside of the show including Kailah using Cara’s image for a workout video that really set Cara off to the point she lawyered up. But Cara didn’t just have problems with Kailah as Tony insulted her during a drunken night (not to mention that make-out session with Camila that he lied to his baby’s mother about – something Cara threw in his face almost immediately).

Tony apologizes to Cara for his actions during the show, giving a donut to her as a peace offering. Tony’s girlfriend is here to admit how disgusted & disappointed she is with Tony, but forgives him overall even if it means at this time their relationship isn’t as strong as it once was. For Cara, she feels the way Tony was treated for making out with Camila (having the situation ignored) and that time where she caught cheating on her boyfriend at the time and she got slut shamed. Almost everyone but Cara disagrees there’s a sexist agenda and the old double standanrd of “boys will be boys” still exists. What’s not up for debate is Camila’s racist rant that happened during the season – something The Miz brings up to ask Leroy how he’s feeling about what happened. Leroy recaps the situation and explains how he knew he had to handle himself in a calm manner to let her figuratively hang herself while forgoing the whole “angry black man” narrative that has been told so many times in the past.

Pretty much everyone is in agreement that Camila is in the wrong and needs to learn from her mistakes – something that she apparently hasn’t done as she’s found herself in problematic situations through the various seasons she’s been a part of. On a more lighter note, veterans Aneesa and Veronica rekindled their friendship on the show and took things to another level in the process.

Both Aneesa and Veronica deny hooking up on the show. But there’s a bigger problem because according to Veronica Aneesa tried to out Veronica for dating “Challenge” vet Rachel during the old days of “The Challenge” as a way to get back at her for being so mean to Aneesa all those years ago. Aneesa denies any spiteful reasoning behind her actions and Veronica forgives her, but their new bond is definitely broken. But the real reason anyone is watching is finally here as The Miz introduces the four of six “Dirty 30” finalists (Camila is not here – TJ takes her place) to discover who won this season’s second & first place spots. Using the “Double Cross” (a single cross represents the second place winners this time around), everyone discovers who won it all.

What a way to end the season!

Episode High(s): Racist Elephant in the Room. Easily the most profound moment of the episode had to be something that wasn’t expected, but hoped for with the addressing of Camila’s actions during the season including insulting an entire race by verbally attacking Leroy for no reason. It’s sad Camila wasn’t there to voice her side of things or at least publicly apologize, but the main point of just how much ignorance – be it racial, sexual or even age – still exists was emphasized greatly here.

Episode Low(s): Best For First. Following last week’s controversial part, this one definitely felt like a step back in terms of unexpected occurrences. There were the quick arguments here & there, but with the bar set so high when it comes to absurd reunion moments, this episode just didn’t compare to the last.

Episode Summary in Five Words or Less: Quiet after the storm.
