The Challenge Dirty 30: Episode 10

By James Bullock Sep 23, 2017 - 9:11 AM print

Previously on The Challenge: After a controversial situation involving Camila and racial comments, she had the ability to send Nicole into the Presidio to lose to Britni prior to Nelson defeating his friend Hunter in the same Elimination Round.

While everyone is settling down following the Elimination Round, Nicole & Hunter have the chance to enter the Redemption House. Cory is shocked to see the other third of his alliance in Hunter being here, but they all are a unit now – the Redemption House Crew. But it’s not like things are tense in the regular house thanks to it being Leroy’s birthday and CT cooking a cake … that got Leroy sick by the night’s end.

The next day is pretty light-hearted. You know, the non-Redemption House competitors partying on a boat, Nicole informing Aneesa that Tori & Jenna think Aneesa’s the spawn of Satan, and Tony have his face feathered while he sleeps. The latter is what rattles the house’s peace when Tony wakes up, blames Johnny Bananas for the prank & goes off for messing up his eyebrows. Tony eventually calms down, but not after making a fool of himself.

In the Redemption House, host TJ Lavin returns to ask the residents who they want to take out. Camila’s name is pretty much unanimous from the girls while Jordan & Bananas are the focus of Hunter & Cory respectively. The spirit of Aneesa starts haunting Jemmye’s dreams; making her believe she’s coming back. Things have settled down for the non-Redemption House competitors, but for the people looking to get back in the game they are forced to face the eating portion of this season’s “Challenge”, “Green With Envy”. This game will see the competitors jump into a mud pit to retrieve containers. If the container a person attains has a green emerald they can mark one of the plates they don’t want to eat while their competitors will have to eat on. But before they can even go for the first container they have to eat at least one of these delicacies.

Nicole and Hunter take the lead, followed by Aneesa and Cory. Unfortunately for Hunter he doesn’t get an emerald on the first two tries. Nicole, Cory & Aneesa follow Hunter’s lead and it’s pretty much coming down to who can eat the fastest. Hunter eventually pulls an emerald; meaning he’ll either need to finish only one more plate or pull an emerald on his final try. Hunter doesn’t get an emerald, but does finish his final plate before Cory to win for the boys.

With Marie pretty much giving up it’s a race between Aneesa and Nicole to see who can eat the fastest. When Nicole mentally breaks, Aneesa has to down a smoothie of chicken intestines after tying up the game. Nicole just watches as Aneesa drinks and vomits her way to victory.

After lambasting Marie for not even trying and commending Cory & Nicole for working hard, Lavin reintroduces Hunter & Aneesa back to the game. While everyone else still competing out for lunch they have no idea what’s waiting for them when they come home. There’s definitely a mixed reaction to Hunter & Aneesa’s returns while Aneesa starts throwing shade at Tori about calling her “the devil.” But things don’t end on a high note as Tony gets a call from his girlfriend about him hooking up with Camila. Tony doesn’t even clarify what happens and denies it outright. Come on, Tony, you know this isn’t going to end well.

Episode High(s): Bon Appetit. Like the trivia challenge, the “Fear Factor”-esque situations competitors are put in to make it further in “The Challenge” is always a treat (no pun intended). I don’t know what it is about watching people eat the most disgusting looking things from the comfort of my home that’s just so fascinating, but I do know it definitely weeds out the competition. Maybe they can get CT to craft the next season’s menu – his cake sure didn’t leave Leroy in the best of ways.

Episode Low(s): The Lull. Outside of the Redemption Challenge, there really wasn’t much else to the episode. You had kids partying & eating, and Tony having something of a meltdown following the feathering – that’s it. The best part about what happened outside of the Redemption House was Jemmye trying to twerk on the boat and Aneesa stalking Tori to hear her say, “You are the devil.”

Daily Challenge Winners: Aneesa & Hunter

Eliminations: Darrell (Episode 5), Amanda (Episode 5), Devin (Episode 5), Latoya (Episode 5), Derrick H. (Episode 5), Briana (Episode 5), Ammo (Episode 6); Nicole (Episode 10); Marie (Episode 10); Cory (Episode 10)

Most Embarrassing Athletic Display: Marie. Quitters never win – simple as that, Marie. While one can’t rag her too hard for not wanting to eat cow eyeballs, she knew this was inevitable when signing up for “The Challenge” – it doesn’t make it any easier, but at least try. If you throw up & and lose at least you tried. And who knows, it might not have been as bad as you thought (nope, probably worse).

Competitor of the Week: Hunter. Like Tony before him, Hunter entered the Redemption House following a tough Elimination Round, barely got any rest, then cleaned up in the Redemption Challenge. It feels like a turning point is about to happen and Hunter set the pace here.

Episode Summary in Five Words or Less: Redemption: a dish served cold.
