The Challenge Dirty 30: Episode 14

By James Bullock Oct 24, 2017 - 7:32 AM print

Previously on The Challenge: With a house divided, Veronica took the helm of voting in players for the Elimination round, resulting in Leroy & Jemmye being sent to the Redemption House alongside CT & Cara Maria.

The Redemption House inhabitants are having fun playing “The Real World” while the competitors still actively in the game are taking on another Daily Challenge where three people will race across three parallel planks to knock one off by slapping an “X” lever at the end of each plank. The fastest winners get to pick one guy & girl pair to send to the Redemption House. With Hunter & Camila winning last week’s Elimination Round they get the chance to set the heats. The first round sees Derrick get across his plank the fastest and eliminate Jordan from the Daily Challenge. The next heat begins and it’s Tony and Hunter going head-to-head (or side-by-side) and Tony’s a little too slow.

The ladies are up next with Jenna, Tori & Kailah in the same heat. Tori, realizing the best friends Jenna & Kailah won’t go against each other, tries to run. Jenna’s long arms allow for her to prevent Tori’s victory while dropping her as well. Camila, Veronica & Britni are a part of the final heat and unfortunately for Veronica, Camila slaps her X lever to drop her.

When it’s time to announce who had the fastest time, host TJ Lavin informs everyone Hunter and Jenna get the fastest times with the power to send whomever was dropped into the Redemption House. Hunter says Jordan’s name, with Jenna having to follow or risk getting her thrown in the Redemption House as well. Veronica gets sent to the Redemption House as well, bringing the inhabitants to eight. When Jordan & Veronica enter the Redemption House, things go from good to bad because Jordan tells Cara Maria that none of the guys want to run a final with her. Taking a page out of “The Real World”, Cara puts Jordan’s luggage in the water.

Things aren’t calm in the regular house either thanks to Camila hounding Jenna about the latter throwing her into the Elimination Round last time. It’s obvious Camila thinks it’s going to happen again; and she’s completely right! When it comes to the guys, Derrick is voted in by Hunter & Jenna as well. During the nominations, Camila throws the blame for her alliance falling apart with Jenna & Kailah on Tori; leading to a big argument where Tori almost puts her hands on Camila. Tori smartly walks away from a potential game-ending situation for her, but Tori is still up for the Elimination Round depending on who pulls the “Double Cross” in the Presidio. Unfortunately for Britni, she doesn’t pull the game-saving block and Tori does. Tony and Johnny Bananas have a 50-50 chance of pulling the two Xs and sweet lady fate is in Tony’s favor so it’ll be Bananas and Derrick going against each other while Camila takes on Britni. Hunter & Tony are obviously happy.

Today’s Elimination Round game is “the Reel World” – a showcase of jumping over a spool to roll in a rope one hundred feet long that has a fifty pound weight on the end that must cross the finish line to declare a victor. The girls are up first and Camila just embraces her inner hamster while Britni struggles to get on the wheel. Camila easily wins this one.

When the guys take to the starting line, Bananas tries to use Camila’s strategy. Derrick follows Bananas’ lead and it’s like watching log tumbler cartoons. Johnny hits his physical wall and it gives Derrick enough time to catch up and pull off one of the biggest wins of the season. That means Johnny Bananas & Britni are heading to the Redemption House. Now it’s pretty much Derrick & Camila on islands to themselves.

Episode High(s): Action, Action, Action! Really good stuff this week based around the competition both on the field of battle and off. Not only was there a Daily Challenge and an Elimination Round, but also surprising twists with unexpected people going to the Redemption House, arguments aplenty, and a potential changing of the guard with the rise of Hunter, Tony, Kailah, Jenna & Tori.

Episode Low(s): Camila’s Reaction Part Deux (With a Little Cara). It’s funny that Camila & Cara get along so well because seeing them react the way they did to people simply playing the game or answering questions was downright embarrassing. Camila calling Tori out for stirring the pot with no evidence, Cara throwing Jordan’s bags into the water because he gave his opinion about her in the game; come on so much worse has been done & said without these types of reactions from other people this season (and even in past seasons).

Daily Challenge Winners: Hunter & Jenna

Redemption House: Johnny Bananas, Britni, Jordan, Veronica, Aneesa, Dario, CT, Cara Maria, Leroy & Jemmye

Eliminations: Darrell (Episode 5), Amanda (Episode 5), Devin (Episode 5), Latoya (Episode 5), Derrick H. (Episode 5), Briana (Episode 5), Ammo (Episode 6); Nicole (Episode 10); Marie (Episode 10); Cory (Episode 10); Nelson (Episode 11)

Most Embarrassing Athletic Display: Britni. This week’s Elimination Round is an example of something appearing a lot easier than it really is. But when you look at Camila’s performance compared to Britni’s you would immediately think someone just doesn’t have what it takes to succeed against actual competition. Hopefully Britni can redeem herself, but it seems like against strong competition (be it on a spool or a plank) she just can’t hang.

Competitor of the Week: Derrick. Having been a fan of “The Challenge” for the better part of a decade I’ve been able to see the feats of Derrick across several seasons and it’s amazing to see him still be able to outrun, outmaneuver, and have more endurance than someone like “Challenge” king Johnny Bananas. Derrick is and will always be a beast.

Episode Summary in Five Words or Less: A new era.
