The Challenge: Vendettas - Episode 13

By James Bullock Mar 31, 2018 - 8:11 AM print

Previously on The Challenge: Once again it was Kam taking out another competitor in The Ring – in this case Natalie – prior to a purge race where the slowest guy & girl would be going home.

Picking up right where the last episode left off, host TJ Lavin tells everyone who were the fastest girl & guy to split $25,000: Zach & Nicole. But on the opposite end of the spectrum was Jemmye. Five seconds separated Kyle and Devin’s times, leading to Devin being sent home. The remaining players get ready to head to the Czech Republic for the latest phase of this season where the competitors must take part in “Outside the Box”: an individual Weekly Challenge where each person will be hanging off a semi trying to avoid the pillars strategically placed on the road to prevent a racking up of points (the more points, the more penalty). The first heat sees Leroy and Zach go head to head and poor Leroy gets stuck and hits pillar after pillar.

Nelson and Kyle are next and do a fantastic job. Brad and Tony are in the third round and apparently learn from the previous heats as they perform perfect, synchronized jumps while avoiding the pillars. Nicole & Kam are up first for the ladies. They both do well until Kam jumps a little too late.

Cara and Kailah pull a Brad & Tony, forcing the people who tied to go again in a faster environment. Nicole is first up and hits a pillar worth four points then another worth one. Kailah and Cara can’t keep a perfect game either. Kyle & Zach take some hits as well when going again, while Brad does a worse performance than Tony. TJ Lavin announces that the last place guy is gone, Nelson.

Tony, on the other hand, had the best performance alongside Kailah; securing their spots in the final while splitting $25,000 & making up the Troika alongside third-place winner Cara. This is a male Elimination Round day while the women are informed they all are going to the finale. On the spot the Troika has to decide who will potentially do battle: Kyle, Leroy & Brad. Zach is now going to the finale so the nominees can plead their cases. When they enter The Ring the final nomination will be declared, but before it’s The Inquisition. Brad expresses his intention of making a better life for his sons. Kyle says he’s going to change his life thanks to his love for Cara. Leroy, on the other hand, says his relationships with each person in front of him have been both rocky & based on loyalty. When it comes to making the final decision for the final Elimination Round, TJ Lavin announces that the person announced is going to be saved, not sent into the Elimination Round. Cara names Kyle much to the chagrin of Leroy. Kailah saves Leroy. Tony is the deciding vote and goes the same way as Cara and Leroy loses his temper; stating Tony saved Kyle because he’s an easier opponent. Tony denies Leroy’s claims.

Brad and Leroy have to compete in “Head Banger”: a game where they have to run head-first through a wall to retrieve one of two big balls that must be broken to retrieve two more smaller balls that need to be deposited in a cylinder for the victory. Brad actually knocks his first wall over; taking away his momentum when trying to break the second wall.

Leroy breaks the first ball almost immediately to get his first small ball. Unfortunately for Brad, Leroy is able to complete the second ball breaking faster than Brad can even get one ball destroyed to win this Elimination Round and put himself in the finale while Tony tries to take credit for freeing the beast within Leroy.

Episode High(s): Down to the Wire. With the finale just over the figurative horizon it’s always fun to see how upped everyone gets emotionally & physically trying to ensure their spot in the finale Challenge is secured. Leroy’s performance in the Elimination Round was the best example of just how much one person can turn it up when their back is against the last wall between them and that big prize money; producing both a great Elimination Round and questions for the future as to where his alliances will lie.

Episode Low(s): Going Home Part 1. Unfortunately for Devin & Jemmye they were sent home at the beginning of the episode. Consider how wild the Weekly Challenge was this week, it would’ve been fun to see them be hanging from a trailer and trying to avoid pillars just like the other competitors.

Weekly Challenge Winner(s): Kailah & Tony

Eliminations: Nicole R. (Episode 1); Rogan (Episode 1); Cory (Episode 3); Alicia (Episode 4); Melissa (Episode 5); Victor (Episode 7); Sylvia (Episode 7); Shane (Episode 7); Veronica (Episode 8); Joss (Episode 8); Marie (Episode 9); Johnny Bananas (Episode 10); Kayleigh (Episode 10); Britni (Episode 11); Natalie (Episode 12); Devin (Episode 13); Jemmye (Episode 13); Nelson (Episode 13); Brad (Episode 13)

Most Embarrassing Athletic Display: Leroy. Though Nelson hit the wrong pillars and ended up going home, Leroy was the one who hilariously got stuck – swinging in midair and just flailing wildly. At least Leroy redeemed himself later in the episode.

Competitor of the Week: Leroy. By the skin of his teeth Leroy survived two elimination opportunities this week as he had the second lowest point total behind Nelson only due to the latter hitting the wrong pillar. He got voted into the Elimination Round and overcame one of the toughest competitors in the game. Leroy truly earned his way into the finale.

Episode Summary in Five Words or Less: Czech please.
