The Challenge: Vendettas - Episode 5

By James Bullock Feb 4, 2018 - 9:28 AM print

Previously on The Challenge: Following Melissa eliminating Alicia, Tony led his team of Zach, Marie & himself to victory in “Food Wars” – making them the new Troika that resulted in Sylvia being nominated for the next Elimination Round.

Joss is emotionally scarred after Sylvia’s teammates of Brad & Joss voted for her to enter the Elimination Round even though she’s sick & stepped up to represent her team in “Food Wars” when they wouldn’t. Shane is having so much fun picking at Joss, with the likes of Cara Maria joining in on the fun.

The Troika isn’t about having fun right now, going to Sylvia to ask who she would like to take on in the Elimination Round. Tony gets cornered by Brad to be asked if the Troika could keep his girlfriend Britni’s name out of the conversation. Unfortunately for Brad, Marie is very happy with the idea of putting Britni up, as well as Zach. Melissa and Kayleigh are the two Sylvia want as possibilities. Eventually it comes down to these three ladies.

Melissa is running to Nicole like a chicken with her head cut off as the latter tries to convince her Kayleigh is the favorite to go in while Britni laments over the fact that she was even picked. Cara, Jemmye & Veronica try to explain to Britni before The Inquisition that guilt by association due to her relationship with Brad is what got her in the position she’s in right now. Melissa speaks up first, saying that since she formed the team that won The Troika by utilizing her Grenade following the Elimination Round victory. Kayleigh reminds The Troika why she doesn’t like Melissa: on their show “Ex on the Beach UK”, Melissa cheated with Kayleigh’s man. Britni makes a big offer that ensures if she isn’t put in the Elimination Round her and Brad will be in debt. While Melissa looks to dance her night away with Nicole following The Inquisition, Britni tries to convince Tony that she shouldn’t go in while Kayleigh gets some verbal support from Brad. When everyone returns home after the night out, Kam tries to tell Melissa about herself; leading to Melissa putting her hair up while Jemmye attempts to get between them.

Eventually Kyle gets between them to cause some distance to end this squabble. The next morning, Melissa runs up on Kam to tell her how much of bully she was the night before and how she doesn’t want Kam to talk to her ever again. But that might not be much of a problem considering Melissa joins Kayleigh and Britni on the line-up for a potential showcase in the Elimination Round. Host TJ Lavin puts The Troika on the spot as to who will take on Sylvia. The voting is unanimous for Melissa as she’s the easiest one to vote for due to her actions. Sylvia and Melissa have to do battle in “Oil & Water”: game where the oiled-up ladies will have to fight in a pool of water for a ball they want to put in their respective barrel three times for victory. The game begins and Melissa’s speed puts her on the board early.

The next round begins and Melissa tries to knee & kick Sylvia out of this game.

The ball moves out of the ring; resetting the game just as Sylvia looks to retaliate with a forearm following that kick. The game starts again and Sylvia is able to score almost immediately. The third heat is all Sylvia as she sprints to the ball and dunks it in her barrel. Melissa is able to grab the ball first at the start of the fourth round and ends up elbowing Sylvia when her opponent waist locks her. But the action costs Melissa as she loses the ball. Sylvia retrieves the ball, having to fight her way to the barrel.

TJ congratulates both ladies on a tough fight while Kayleigh gives credit where credit is due to her vendetta for fighting so hard. Sylvia finds out that her potential Grenade choices could see her getting some extra money, force a single competitor to perform an endurance run prior to the Weekly Challenger, or decide the order of the aforementioned Challenge. We won’t know Sylvia’s decision until next week.

Episode High(s): What a Battle. This week’s Elimination Round was absolutely amazing – a brawl for it all that you always expect to see from every season, but rarely do; especially when it comes to two women. Both competitors left it all in The Ring and it made the wait for some real action worth it.

Episode Low(s): The Dumbfounded Game. The oblivious nature of Melissa and Britni early in the episode was so astounding it was laughable. Melissa not only had rookie status, but also started laying with one of the strongest players in the game – the same for Britni when it comes to the latter. Unfortunately for Melissa her strategy of being associated with someone strong didn’t pay off in the end.

Weekly Challenge Winner(s): N/A

Eliminations: Nicole R. (Episode 1); Rogan (Episode 1); Cory (Episode 3); Alicia (Episode 4); Melissa (Episode 5)

Most Embarrassing Athletic Display: Melissa. With only one physical activity during the episode, it’s hard to give this one out; but Melissa’s dirty tactics during the Elimination Round was enough to warrant embarrassment.

Competitor of the Week: Sylvia. Sick & tired (in more ways than one), Sylvia took everything Melissa dished out (both honorable and dishonorable) to win a game where she lacked the speed advantage and was in worst physical shape due to the flu. Now Sylvia’s packing a Grenade and could use it to change the game.

Episode Summary in Five Words or Less: Slippery when raged.
