The Challenge: Vendettas - Episode 7

By James Bullock Feb 18, 2018 - 8:54 AM print

Previously on The Challenge: After an underwater adventure, the new Troika of Johnny Bananas, Kyle & Tony put Shane, Victor & Devin in the running for the Elimination Round to take on none other than Brad.

The show picks up right where the last left off with the Troika deciding that Victor is the one who will battle Brad in “Troubled Water”: a game where the two competitors will have to remove water from a box they currently occupy until they can break the bottom of the glass box to fully free themselves before their opponent. If you were a terrible baby who loved to splash your parents when being bathed this is your type of Elimination Round.

Brad tries to use his entire body to knock the water out while Victor just uses his hands. The results are not in Victor’s favor.

With Brad’s victory he also gets a Grenade to use before the next weekly challenge. This time around the Grenades allow for Brad to either add time to a competitor’s score, put someone out of the weekly challenge overall, or blindfold one competitor during the weekly challenge. While Brad tries to figure out what to do with his grenade, more notes arrive in Britni’s room. In the confessional, Johnny Bananas reveals that his sister wrote up all these vague notes for him to deliver and confuse his allies & foes alike. But what is more bizarre is the fact before the latest weekly challenge there are two pictures placed on two boards featuring the faces of CT & Aneesa of “The Challenge” fame. Why? To build an actual puppet that will be hoisted up for the world to see. But before the game begins, host TJ Lavin reveals that Sylvia is out of the game due to her being sick and Brad has to make a choice about which Grenade he wants to use. Oh, and there’s going to be a double Elimination Round today! The Troika has the opportunity to choose the teams that will be chained together for the entire challenge: Blue Team (Leroy, Nelson, Zach, Devin, Joss, Kam, Britni, Kailah, Marie & Veronica) vs. Green Team (Shane, Kayleigh, Tony, Nicole, Cara Maria, Bananas, Kyle, Brad, Jemmye & Natalie). Brad opts to use the time Grenade on Kam to hinder the entire Blue Team as they are forced to start one-minute behind the Green Team. The race is neck & neck, but that extra minute becomes detrimental to the Blue Team.

The Green Team has to decide who will make up the new Troika; giving Tony, Nicole & Kyle that privilege. The Blue Team on the other hand has to decide who should go in the Elimination Round. After Leroy is the early favorite to go in for the guys, Zach starts a wave where Joss is voted in alongside Veronica. Joss is taken aback as is Veronica. TJ Lavin reveals there will be no Inquisition tonight and whoever is nominated won’t have a chance to plead their case for survival. The Troika is split when it comes to choosing the girls while confident in what guys to put on the wall; eventually going with…

Natalie is called out by Devin for playing both sides of the fence; claiming to not have an alliance with Bananas while not being a part of an alliance. Natalie having a minor fit over Devin’s words might hinder her in the long run because she might join Veronica in The Ring. When it’s time to announce the Elimination Round competitors, Kam and Shane take the bullets. Instead of taking on each other, TJ calls out some special guests.

From left to right you have Derrick, Jordan, Tori & Aneesa – four “Challenge” veterans who did incredibly well last season including picking up places in all three top spots – known as “The Mercenaries”. “Crazy 8” is the game: a potential wrestling match over a rope in the shape of the number 8 where the person who takes control of the rope has to hang it on their pillar. Lavin flips a coin to determine that it’ll be Joss vs. Derrick and Shane vs. Jordan. In a beautiful twist of fate, Aneesa and Veronica will do battle in the Elimination Round yet again with Veronica defeating her last time. Shane and Jordan are up first and the latter literally runs circles around Shane in the first round.

After a stalemate second round, the third begins and it’s not a pretty one for Shane.

Veronica takes on Aneesa in the next match and Aneesa does not take it easy on her old friend & rival as expected; leading to not only a cliffhanger, but also Veronica potentially injured & put out of the game.

Episode High(s): Coming Full Circle. So much stuff in this episode were examples of moments, decisions & situations potentially or actually coming full circle from Brad almost getting his girlfriend thrown into the Elimination Round to Aneesa arriving with the intent of gaining revenge against Veronica for putting out of “Dirty 30” a season ago. You had Devin calling out Natalie; potentially shaking of vendetta Bananas’ game, Leroy discovering that maybe being a friend of Johnny isn’t for the best right now. Add that to the fact the final moments of action were just phenomenal made this memorable episode.

Episode Low(s): The Note. It was a low last week and a low moment this week as well. Unlike the last episode it didn’t take up as much screen time this time around, but still comes across as ridiculous that no one thought Johnny did it while trying to throw blame on something everyone declared was a joke just one episode ago. Also, though expected considering she wasn’t getting any healthier, having Sylvia go down like she did is disappointing to state the least.

Weekly Challenge Winner(s): Shane, Kayleigh, Tony, Nicole, Cara Maria, Bananas, Kyle, Brad, Jemmye & Natalie

Eliminations: Nicole R. (Episode 1); Rogan (Episode 1); Cory (Episode 3); Alicia (Episode 4); Melissa (Episode 5); Victor (Episode 7); Sylvia (Episode 7); Shane (Episode 7)

Most Embarrassing Athletic Display: Shane. Hey, it’s easy to be embarrassed in an athletic competition against Jordan – the man is a freak of nature. But to have someone literally run circles around you in a game ironically called “Crazy 8” is pretty hilarious.

Competitor of the Week: Brad. Not only did the returning “Challenge” veteran make a splash by winning the Elimination Round while sending Victor home, but also led his team to victory in the weekly challenge through smart planning. Brad even struck enough fear in player’s hearts that Britni – who people were gunning for just a couple of episodes ago – refused to say her name when it came to Elimination Round nominations.

Episode Summary in Five Words or Less: Strings getting cut.
