The Challenge: Vendettas - Reunion (Part 1)

By James Bullock Apr 13, 2018 - 5:15 PM print

Previously on The Challenge: It all came down to Zach, Cara Maria, Kailah & Kyle to crown the first “Challenge: Vendettas” winner, but the result wouldn’t be revealed until the reunion finale.

WWE Superstar & former two-time “Challenge” champion The Miz is here; returning to his old stomping grounds to host this grand finale featuring recap videos of everything that happened during the season like Tony sending Johnny Bananas into the Elimination Round that ended his winning streak at Devin’s hands, The Mercenaries in Tori, Aneesa, Derrick & Jordan being both in The Ring when they took on the competition & here, and Elimination Round Grenades blowing up the game. After Kam explains why she targeted strong player Cara Maria with Grenades, Cara and Nicole get into a shouting match about Nicole’s self-proclaimed superiority at the game over her fellow “Challenge” vet. And then there was Leroy not getting told about being put in the Elimination Round without telling him before he dropped the hammer. Leroy is still upset and still feels Tony is a female dog for his actions. Also…

Things weren’t good between Britni and Marie as well. You know there’s no beef like a Twitter beef.

The two get into it without a valid argument between them. The Miz decides to cut this nonsense short, switching the subject to some of the big falls & injuries suffered during the season like Leroy getting knocked out & falling into the lake below. Leroy reveals he was actually in the hospital for two days.

Veronica also destroyed her pinky in her Elimination with Mercenary Aneesa. Derrick came out looking like he was in a car wreck when he finished defeating Joss in an Elimination Round. Cara also got her chin busted off camera while trying to do the worm in a drunken fit. Kam also got a few scars becoming the queen of Elimination Rounds this season. Sylvia is back to get kudos for being in the most intense female Elimination Round in “The Challenge” history.

The Brits in Kyle, Melissa & Kayleigh are here via satellite with Cara revealing that she & Kyle aren’t a couple right now. When it comes to the rise & fall of Nelson & Kayleigh’s relationship with the latter calling Nelson crazy & obsessive. Nelson tries to defend himself as a person who was done wrong even though he was warned by the other girls about Kayleigh. Nelson flips the script on Kayleigh when she admits she got mad with Melissa for kissing Nelson the same night he kissed her; leading to Nelson telling Kayleigh the same thing about them not being boyfriend & girlfriend she used on him both here & on Twitter. But no relationship was hurt more by this season than the one between Tony & Johnny Bananas. Like Leroy, Bananas just wanted Tony to tell him what was coming. Devin takes his chance to rub it in Johnny’s face that in their only confrontation it ended in Devin’s victory.

While the relationship between Brad & Britni is still strong as ever, Nicole has been a hound dog throughout the years including in the house this season by hooking up with both Melissa and Jemmye. But Nicole isn’t about hooking up, she wants Cara to understand who is the superior competitor between the two. Unfortunately for both Cara and the fans, we won’t know until next week who won the season.
Episode High(s): Confronting the Past. Hey, that’s what TV show reunions are all about – getting to the root of issues by recapping what happened during the season. Unlike last season, it feels like there’s still a lot to cover while this episode provided some great confrontations like Nicole & Cara, Leroy & Tony, and Devin constantly taunting Johnny. Then there were things we didn’t know like Jemmye & Nicole hooking up and the not noted (until now) moment of Brad & Britni catching Leroy watching them have sex coming to light that made the fact we won’t know the season winner until next week a little more tolerable. Episode Low(s): Tainted Beef. While situations like Leroy & Johnny being upset with Tony, Nelson not taking kindly to Kayleigh calling him crazy, and Devin taking his moment to mock Bananas made sense, that long-running problems between Britni & Marie made no sense and just made for an awkward segment featuring two people who seem to not really know why they don’t like each other. Then there were the odd arguments between Cara and Nicole where the latter was intent on Maria admitting she’s not a strong competitor (who does that?). Episode Summary in Five Words or Less: Both sides of your neck.
