The Challenge: Vendettas Episode 10

By James Bullock Mar 9, 2018 - 7:04 AM print

Previously on The Challenge: After Marie was sent home thanks to friend Kailah in the Elimination Round, the losing team put together by Kailah voted Devin to go into The Ring for the next Elimination Round.

The episode picks up right where the last left off with Devin warning Johnny Bananas that he’ll wreck him if they are put in the Elimination Round. Devin goes on a campaign, trying to convince the Troika of Kailah, Zach & Tony to put Bananas on the nominee list. Apparently Devin’s words are stronger than anything because the nominees are really anti-Bananas.

Tony & Zach promise to put Nelson in when it’s time to make the final decision. When it’s time for The Inquisition, Bananas promises to protect Tony as much as he can with Leroy following that lead. Nelson sees he’s in the hot seat and immediately goes to Devin. In an effort to turn the game upside-down, Devin tells Nelson that his current bae Kayleigh has hooked up with Bananas during this season. Nelson immediately tells several people what happened including Natalie in front of Bananas. Nelson, who immediately noticed Kayleigh sided with Bananas when voting for Devin following the Weekly Challenge, cuts ties while trying to get Johnny to admit the truth. Kayleigh states that yes she & Bananas had a quick fling prior to the game really starting. Kayleigh even gets Kyle to help her reenact the terribly awkward romantic moment.

With so much confusion now infiltrating the game, Tony starts questioning whether or not he should throw Johnny in, the girls are rallying against Kayleigh, and both Kayleigh & Bananas try to figure out what really happened. To top it off it’s Kailah rallying the troops to informally evict Kayleigh from her room.

Kayleigh loses her mind upon seeing her belongings being pitched over the balcony to the first floor. Kam immediately calls out the threesome of Kailah, Britni & Jemmye for being the mean girls by ganging up on Kayleigh. Cara Marie joins in the cry of bullying Kayleigh for something so insignificant. Kayleigh is escorted to a hotel for the evening, returning the next morning without anyone apologizing for their actions. Nelson & Natalie feel like the odd people out in their current relationship situations and host TJ Lavin confronts Kailah, Britni & Jemmye with the warning of sending them home if they ever pull something like that again. When it’s time for the Troika to decide who will battle Devin, Zach & Kailah split the votes, leaving it down to Tony to shockingly vote in his mentor Johnny Bananas. Tonight’s Elimination Round is “Not So Bright”: a game where the competitors will have to memorize a board of unlit lights they must light up to complete the board when it isn’t illuminated.

Bananas notes how quiet everyone is as he’s reaching the end point. Sticking to sectioning off his board by rectangles, Devin is able to pull off the impossible.

With the victory Devin has the opportunity to utilize a Grenade (“Weighted Down”: adding weight to a competitor; “Tied Up”: having a competitor tied by their ankles; “Team Up”: having the ability to make the teams). Kayleigh announces that she’ll be heading home after being bullied the night before.

Episode High(s): Getting What You Wished For. This entire episode focused on Devin’s quest to take on Bananas in the Elimination Round and it caused a seismic shift across the entire game as Devin broke up relationships, changed the dynamics of current friendships, and sent Bananas home in a shocking twist of fate. This was a fantastic episode featuring political intrigue and unmitigated action to close it off.

Episode Low(s): Mean Girls. Unfortunately for Kayleigh, Devin’s actions shook things up in a major and she took a good brunt of it as her actions with Bananas saw her be unnecessarily vilified and bullied. The worst part wasn’t the fact Kayleigh left, but her assaulters tried to make excuses for doing something so heinous that had nothing to do with them; let alone affected their lives in “defense” of Natalie – someone who took the moment & moved on a lot better then Kailah & crew did.

Weekly Challenge Winner(s): N/A

Eliminations: Nicole R. (Episode 1); Rogan (Episode 1); Cory (Episode 3); Alicia (Episode 4); Melissa (Episode 5); Victor (Episode 7); Sylvia (Episode 7); Shane (Episode 7); Veronica (Episode 8); Joss (Episode 8); Marie (Episode 9); Johnny Bananas (Episode 10); Kayleigh (Episode 10)

Most Embarrassing Athletic Display: N/A

Competitor of the Week: Devin. You don’t call out someone and fail to prove your bite is bigger than your bark. Devin has wanted to go one-on-one with Bananas for quite some time and achieved his dream by sending “The Challenge” legend packing. You need to be able to handle every aspect of “The Challenge” to win be it physical, mental & psychological. Devin proved it this time around that he has the tools to pull it all together.

Episode Summary in Five Words or Less: Rotten bananas.
