The Challenge: Vendettas Episode 11

By James Bullock Mar 16, 2018 - 7:36 AM print

Previously on The Challenge: In one of the most surprising moments in “The Challenge”, Devin got his wish and took on Johnny Bananas in an Elimination Round; taking down “The Challenge” king.

It’s all about rocking out with your…. Well, you know the rest. For Devin this is a moment of greatness worthy of skinny-dipping. But for people like Leroy, Natalie & Nelson the question of how are they going to survive without their greatest mastermind is now a reality. After a quick birthday celebration for Nicole, the competitors head to the beach for “This Land is My Land”: a three-team race where they have to build a ladder featuring wooden pallets to raise a flag. It’s a double elimination week and Devin has the ability to blow the game up by using his Grenade. Devin chooses the teams.

While Devin’s team (the Red Team) is incredibly cohesive, the Blue Team not only has one less player, but also features guys who aren’t confident in their building abilities. Since the rules don’t penalize competitors from taking each other’s color-assigned pallets, the Red & Green Teams opt to take from the Blue Team. But for all their thievery, the Red Team is having a big problem: Brad & Nelson are gassing out something fierce. On the opposite end of the spectrum are the Green Team’s Nicole and the Blue Team’s Cara & Kyle just smoking the collecting & running portion of this game; resulting in the prior pulling it together quicker than their competitors.

Devin’s plan completely backfires as Kyle sprints across the sand and helps himself & Leroy avoid last place.

The Green Team members decide Zach, Tony & Natalie are the new Troika while the Red Team have to choose that Kam and Brad will be entering The Ring for this Elimination Round. When the politicking begins, Zach starts rallying for putting Britni in even after promising she is safe to her face. Though Natalie is in defense of Nelson, the male portion of the Troika don’t trust him and decide that these are the two sets potentially ready to go home.

Britni is running around like a chicken with her head cut off getting no type of straight answer from Zach or Tony while both Kyle & Cara lament over the fact their budding love could be cut short due to both names being potentially involved in the Elimination Round. When it’s nomination time, Natalie pulls a shocking twist on Nelson by joining her Troika teammates by putting him into the Elimination Round alongside Britni after promising him he’d be safe. Sadly for Kam, Britni, Nelson & Brad, a new quartet of Mercenaries have arrived.

From left to right you have Darrell, Frank, Ashley & Laurel – four “Challenge” veterans who have dominated and even hurt people in the past including Darrell beating up a belligerently drunken Brad to the point it looked like someone took a baseball bat to Brad’s face. Nicole is stunned because Laurel is also her ex-girlfriend. But none of that matters in “Yankin’ My Chain”: a one-on-one race around a circular track with the intent of ringing their bell opposite the starting point while chained back-to-back with their competitor. After a quick coin flip it’s decided that Brad will be taking on Frank in the first heat.

Brad has an impressive showcase, putting out Frank pretty quickly. Kam has to take on Ashley and unlike the first game the girls start mouthing off while trying to force each other backwards. Kam learns from Brad’s strategy to attain success.

The final male round is Darrell and Nelson. After twenty minutes, the game is reset because Darrell spent the round trying to pull a fetal Nelson. Unfortunately for Nelson, having to get up and reset reinforces the fact he’s worn out. But Nelson refuses to give up and after another forty minutes, host TJ Lavin calls it a draw – Nelson goes back to the house, but won’t have a Grenade to show for it. The final match is Britni vs. Laurel. Muscling Britni around, Laurel slowly but surely pulls off the inevitable.

There’s a quick exchange between Nicole and Laurel that appears to give to pair closure. TJ announces the Grenades for the next Weekly Challenge will allow for Brad to either take a winner’s purse, physically tie up one competitor, or add time to someone’s game.

Episode High(s): Plans Going Awry. The previous episode was structured around Devin’s quest to take on Johnny Bananas. This time Devin’s actions caused everything to go right & wrong for the people involved in making this week’s Elimination Round and potential fallout including Nelson gunning for Natalie. Devin, for all his intelligence, let his smarts get the better of actual proper planning – setting the stage for alliances like Brad & Britni become a non-factor.

Episode Low(s): No Guts, No Glory … For You. With her best support system in Johnny Bananas gone, Natalie has spent the better part of two episodes buttering up Nelson. Instead of being up front about her lack of allegiance or even just staying to herself, Natalie stabbed Nelson in the back and almost got him sent home. Natalie can’t be trusted and is playing a very dangerous game while leaving others shaking their heads in disgust.

Weekly Challenge Winner(s): Nicole, Natalie, Zach, Tony & Britni

Eliminations: Nicole R. (Episode 1); Rogan (Episode 1); Cory (Episode 3); Alicia (Episode 4); Melissa (Episode 5); Victor (Episode 7); Sylvia (Episode 7); Shane (Episode 7); Veronica (Episode 8); Joss (Episode 8); Marie (Episode 9); Johnny Bananas (Episode 10); Kayleigh (Episode 10); Britni (Episode 11)

Most Embarrassing Athletic Display: Britni. No, it’s not embarrassing for someone to lose to Laurel; man or woman. The fact is Britni has been considered one of the strongest players in the game because of both impressive performances early in the game and really running her mouth very well. Unfortunately here Britni looked like someone who had more bark than bite and will really have to redeem herself if she’s in a future season.

Competitor of the Week: Kyle. Like Zach said to rally him to victory, Kyle doesn’t workout, he smokes & drinks like a fish, and doesn’t cut the most intimidating form; yet has as much heart as anyone to keep going. If not for Kyle’s heart in overcoming his psychical limitations and the fact his team was being stolen from by Devin’s team there’s a good chance that he or Leroy could’ve been going home when taking on a Mercenary.

Episode Summary in Five Words or Less: Sharpening those knives.
