ROH TV Episode 347: Never Saw It Coming

Last week: The Kingdom overcame Dalton Castle & The Boys prior to the trio Pillmanizing Castle’s arm.

ROH TV Episode 347

Kelly Klein vs. Madison Rayne
Motioning for the Code of Honor, Madison Rayne got nothing from the woman actually getting a vocally positive reception. Rayne kept her composure after getting shoved around, resulting in her almost rolling up Klein in several pinning predicament. The attempt at a victory roll ended in Rayne taking a face buster. Klein let her opponent get up with the help of the corner, knocking her into a big boot prior to the commercial break.
The fans were rallying behind Rayne as she elbowed her way out of a chin lock. Klein retaliated by choking the life out of Rayne and sending her to ringside. Rayne couldn’t stop the suplex on the floor, nor Klein showboating afterwards. The latter cost Klein as Madison recovered and caught her with a Chance of Rayne to gain a two count. Blocking a suplex attempt, Klein found herself going for one of her own that resulted in Rayne countering and hitting the Barbie Crusher … to gain a near fall!
Klein stopped the follow up attack, hitting a modified Michinoku driver. Somehow Rayne kicked out, landing an enzuguri when Klein rushed her. Madison’s next attack proved to be her last as she missed a shoulder ram in the corner; leaving herself wide open for a knee strike that put her lights out and ended this match in a three count in favor of “The Gatekeeper”.

SoCal Uncensored was in the promo area to warn The Bullet Club that they will prove they are a well-oiled machine next week because they are the true ROH World Six Man Tag Team champions.

Next week, Jay Lethal will take on Punishment Martinez. Lethal stood in the promo area to note all the physical disadvantages he has coming into this match including a loss to Martinez – a loss he will rectify next week because he’s the franchise of ROH.

The Motor City Machine Guns were in the ring to explain how disappointing it is to currently be former ROH World Tag Team champions. Chris Sabin wondered if it’s time to split. The fans didn’t care for the idea, but did love The Machine Guns sticking together as brothers. Before Alex Shelley could say something, he was interrupted by Will Ferrara’s voice stating that they don’t care about The Machine Guns’ woes. Rushing the ring, The Dawgs attacked Shelley & Sabin to begin this impromptu match.

The Motor City Machine Guns vs. The Dawgs
Ducking a double clothesline, The Machine Guns sent their opposition to the floor for a big Sabin tope before Ferrara felt a decapitation knee drop-double team flatliner prior to the Dream Sequence being halted by Will’s tornado DDT on Sabin. The Machine Guns were on the floor and Titus was ready to fly; somersaulting over the top rope with a plancha before the break.
The Dawgs were still in control with Shelley having to fight off a double team that ended not successfully as Titus yanked Alex to the floor for a barricade slam in preparation for Ferrara’s dive. Shelley broke free from Titus’ grip, sending the partners into each other before tagging out to a fired up Sabin. Running from one end of the ring to the other, Sabin was kicking anything moving including dropkicking Titus to finish the Dream Sequence. Titus recovered, utilizing snake eyes to set up Ferrara’s slingblade slam. Big Dawg Splash from Titus on Sabin … ended in a near fall thanks to Shelley’s interference!
Titus’ superplex attempt ended with him getting hung in the tree of woe for not only a pair of dropkicks, but also his own partner being tossed against him. Hooking Titus, The Machine Guns pulled off Skull & Bones for the pin fall victory.

The Young Bucks noted that tonight’s main event features the two best tag teams in ROH history with the winning team gaining the realization that they are the greatest.

Façade w/ Danni vs. Eli Isom
“The Neon Ninja” was finally in ROH; cutting a promo where he recounted his travels while spray-painting the ROH promo area. Eli Isom was pumped up to get his shot in ROH instead of being squashed. Isom promised the fans would be impressed by the end. Code of Honor followed before the bell; leading to a quick exchange where Isom used the matrix to free himself from a headlock while Façade countered pinning combinations with roll ups of his own. Fist bump feign allowed Façade to quicken the pace, but it ended with him taking a knee strike that put him in prime positions for the running uppercut. Nigel handstand in the corner by Façade didn’t end well as he was caught in a pinning predicament. Façade survived, knocking Isom to the floor for a dive. Isom avoided the plancha, utilizing a gut wrench-overhead suplex combination to set up a diving attack that was caught short by a big kick from Façade at ringside. Isom collapsed to the floor, wide open for a springboard somersault plancha. Showing his ninja-like ability, Façade walked across the top rope until he was midway before jumping and kicking Isom for a two count. Just when it seemed Façade was on the verge of winning, Bully Ray ran out to attack both men.
Taking a microphone after cleaning up the ring of people he felt were bottom feeders and deserved to be fired as he’s the ROH Enforcer. Cheeseburger stepped out to a roaring ovation with the intent of telling Bully, “You’re a piece of (bleep).” Ray quickly responded with a choke slam. ROH COO Joe Koff came out to explain that he heard how terrible of a person he really is and how he’s worthy of being fired in ROH just like he’s been fired everywhere else he’s worked. Ray took the firing as ROH’s Enforcer as a way to un-retire from in-ring competition.

In the promo area, The Bullet Club’s Cody, Marty Scurll & Adam Page were so excited to fight SoCal Uncensored next week because they hate each member. Instead of solely focusing on winning next week, Cody stated he’ll main event “Best in the World” and win the ROH World title back. Marty took exception to Cody’s words because it was “The Villain” who earned a future World title shot and plans to take it at “BITW”.

ROH World Tag Team Championship: The Briscoes (c) vs. The Young Bucks
The Briscoes started this one off in a frantic fashion by tossing in chairs. The challengers responded by tossing those chairs at the champions’ heads. Dey was a clubberin’ on da flo’, Tony! Big double team dropkick connected for The Bucks as did the apron bomb prior to the commercial.
Mark Briscoe cut Matt Jackson off at the pass to stop a tag out, only to feel the spear when he missed a big clothesline. Nick Jackson tagged in, landing strikes aplenty on both champions until he started tuning up the band. Mark avoided the super kick from Nick, but not both from his challengers. Double team splash & standing moonsault couldn’t put Mark away. “The Sussex County Chicken” got some speed after avoiding the Swanton, landing a clothesline. Jay had to save his brother from the sharpshooter, putting Nick in the same hold. Matt bit his way out of a rear naked choke, only for him to feel the Delaware’s Edge. Matt somehow kicked out before the three count. The Briscoes signaled for the Doomsday Device, only for Matt to back flip out of the maneuver. Matt threw a super kick, but felt the Jay Driller instead … for a near fall!
Jay couldn’t believe someone kicked out of his finisher. Mark grabbed a chair as Jay walked into the set up for the Meltzer Driver. Nick didn’t see Mark, taking a chair to the back for the disqualification.
Grabbing a slew of chairs, The Briscoes were wearing out both Bucks with chairs, topping off their attack with a superplex on Matt on a pile of chairs. Moving to the darkest part of the stage’s edge was Mark. Adam Page ran out at the behest Jay, not seeing Mark slip behind him on the stage to crack him on the head with a chair. Flip Gordon got a piece of the chair action as well when he followed Page onto the stage. Cody tried to make the save, but took a chair shot as well. Though the fans were chanting for Marty, Scurll was nowhere to be found as Dem Boys stood supreme.

Overall: Easily the best episode of ROH TV in quite some time. While the previous weeks have been solid, they’ve felt like little has progressed in the terms of storylines outside of Bully Ray’s actions, SoCal Uncensored complaining about their titles being stolen, and minor character interactions. The main event was a perfect example of wrestling TV storytelling as you had a fun brawl topped off by a wild post-match beating that had the fans furious with The Briscoes. On the opposite end of the spectrum was the opener as it was just there to reestablish Kelly Klein in a match that the fans were a lot more receptive for – a possible reason is the Women of Honor are finally being implemented in regular ROH TV shows instead of giving their two-times-a-year episode showcase. All the ladies need now is more promo time to really get a connection with the fans similar to the multiple promos seen this week hyping a few matches for next week and The Machine Guns’ interrupted time that led to a strong match with The Dawgs. Façade vs. Isom felt like the ROH of old as two fresh faces just going all out in front of a crowd that was digging everything and really hated the Bully Ray interference (something that felt obvious was going to happen, but thankfully didn’t until well into the match). Real good stuff this week and felt like an episode that needs to be seen to keep up with the current ROH landscape.
